Williams never raced active ride in '91 (although apparently they brought it to Adelaide). They were the only team using it in '92. By '93 all of the big teams had it.
I think TC came in about 1989; and I'm pretty sure the big four all had it by '91. Not sure about the others.
McLaren were caught using an automatic upshift in '94, Ferrari got caught using TC i

Grand Prix 4 how well do they work at high lock angles? I've been thinking of doing something similar for a cockpit I'm making

yes, I've made them both, look further back in the thread to see some shots of it

Grand Prix 4 Wow! Shame gp4 can't do active ride
The "barcode" NT livery was only at one race (Germany). I can't find a good pic either (though I have some from 94, it *looks* like the same but you can never be sure)
of course I must nitpick -
ford logos should match (filled/not). The filled in ones came later in the season. also don't forget the bump by the ones on the

Grand Prix 4 a targa has (up to) 4 channels, a bmp has 3. GP4 uses 32 bit targas.
4 channels * 8 bits/channel = 32 bits
by converting to bitmap and back you lose the fourth channel.

Grand Prix 4 The '93 Williams used to be able to do this, I think by lifting the rear of the car on the straights using the active ride. Not sure how you would do it with a passive suspension though.

F1 it's a little harder for an f1 car, since it isn't shaped like a brick
it also isn't really efficient, since you have to have square textures. Some guys do it with a single 1024*1024 texture, but you really don't need that much space

maybe a touch too low? it should line up with the bottom of the sidepod. hard to tell from those pics whether it does or not.
sorry to nitpick, other than that the ferrari looks gorgeous

Grand Prix 4 @cleberpister use ulf's oz or fondmetal tex
@camber the rears are 15" wide, 26" diameter, ~13" rims. I don't know the width of the fronts for sure, might be 11.5. I've got a more appropriate shape for 94 that I made if you want, but only with 2D rims

Grand Prix 4 looks great
Are you going to do individual suspensions? The arrows at least could use it, that car had pullrods....

Grand Prix 4 Even better in red and white
the only thing I can say is that the left front wing support should be white, not red (right one should be red). or is it not possible with the mapping?

Grand Prix 4 the macca's gearbox should be stretched back to meet the rear wing mounts (and cover up the middle of the cv joints part)
nice to see that this thing is still alive

Grand Prix 4 looks like it says "automobile club bologna." part of the same logo is in the top left corner of the shot. I'd say use bold arial narrow and don't worry about it too much.

Grand Prix 4 pretty nice.... although I think you can lose a lot of polys in the sidepod

Grand Prix 4 What's that mean?
I've got a few 1999 shapes I started a while ago, that I might dig up if there is any demand....

Grand Prix 4 Ok, fair enough, I never play with the dynamic reflections on, which probably influences the way I choose to do shapes. Personally I think GP4's reflection engine is a bit weird, as it seems not to be able to reflect off flat surfaces, only curves. Probably because it was designed for the default cars which look like they have got auto-calculated normals.
by
loren
-
Grand Prix 4 Well, looking at the zmod shots it looks like the normals on the side of the nose and sidepod are turned slightly up and down on the top and bottom respectively. Essentially it means that from a lighting standpoint the what should be flat parts are considered as round.
Here goes my little rant on normals, not just to Diego but 95% of the carshapers out there
Mathematically speaking, the

agreed: the side of the nose reflects like a cylinder, and the sidepod and bargeboard aren't great either. that said, I'd say 9 out of ten gp4 cars have bad normals, and a lot that don't have "cheated"

F1 Bring it back to the west coast! That's where the fans are, not in the midwest. And trust me, Indianapolis is a long way to fly from either coast, not to mention the airfare. Throw in tickets, hotels, days off from work, etc, you're talking at least a grand to see a race on a crap track. I think Laguna Seca would be the best bet, although it would need some work. F1 Well, that won't happen for sure. We don't have a big team and there's a lot to do (not just cars). If anybody wants to help....
But I can assure you that work continues. Here is a wip shot of Williams V2:

Grand Prix 4 For the dimensions like width and height, locations of wings, etc, there is NEVER any excuse for not having them right. You can get the technical regs from the FIA's website, and these give all the basic dimensions for the cars. Don't just use the default cars as a base either, most of these are wrong.
In my opinion, rules on polycounts, LODs, common textures, etc should be controll

Grand Prix 4 I completely agree with the last few posts. Polycounts have gotten pretty out of hand lately. Part of the reason I don't drive the modern cars.
For my 1994 cars I'm getting 3000-4000 polys for lod0. Yes, they are more blocky than a modern car, but I still think a 2005 car could be done really well in about 6000 polys. Getting the proportions right is more important to making a good
