Texturing is easy to some, hard to alot.

Now if you can map, would it be easier to map a car then texture it accordingly.

I say this because some cars are fairly simple, and so when mapping you can like one a few big parts in which to texture... Would this be possbile?!

Do you have that kind of freedom when mapping a car or?!

I.e. Like have the whole side of the car mapped as 1 bit if the car simple...

I don't know much about the subject, but I think what you're asking for is templates, and I also think there are a few of them available.

from you, anything's possible ;)

from what i understand, i would say it was "easier" to map the whole car first then add the textures in the according places.

i think you could have 1 big tex file for 1 whole side of the car, but it might make it more complicated.

just open up a few tex files of cars you've got, and have a look how they are mapped and textured.

Ye it also depends on how much detail you are going to put in...

Or map it randomly, which is especially good if you're using 1 x 2048

Hey it works for me ;)
you mean map then make the texture? that's the only way it should be done tbh :P

chet do you mean bascially map the side of the car as one part and the top for another e.g. like this

it's a little harder for an f1 car, since it isn't shaped like a brick

it also isn't really efficient, since you have to have square textures. Some guys do it with a single 1024*1024 texture, but you really don't need that much space
its harder on f1 cars as said.
and if you want more detail you will need a specific area to be bigger in retrospect e.g. top and side of nose e.t.c.
It would also mean having to map each part individually, because it is harder.

eg, the side of the nose and sidepods leading through to the back of the car can be done in one go, but the front of the sidepod (technically still the side, thinking laterally) would have to be mapped seperately.

Here's what the mapping on my... er... thing that I made looks like ;)

Detail is a bitch, but if you're a crap painter (like me ;)) you don't mind too much :P

Well I screwed up the engine covers and nose sides to get it so that everything was situated from the centre. Hence why all the logos on said engine cover and nose cone are flipped ;)
