Ways Formula 1 can be welcomed in the United States

Don't do a Michelin, for one...

well yeah.... I know the rules to race on an oval....

But in F1 it will never ever happen that they will reduce downforce for a GP in my opinion

the other prob, how many downforce would they loose? is it equal for each team (as they are racing together, they want to have the best car etc)

if evryone needs to have the same shape... ok, than it is not that difficult to adapt each car in the same way.... but I really can't see this happen in F1

And what about mexico guys???? they were making an oval and an infield thing I ever heart..... Does anyone know if they are still working further? or are the plans stopped.. cause that souned interesting, and with an oval in it!!

Bring it back to the west coast! That's where the fans are, not in the midwest. And trust me, Indianapolis is a long way to fly from either coast, not to mention the airfare. Throw in tickets, hotels, days off from work, etc, you're talking at least a grand to see a race on a crap track. I think Laguna Seca would be the best bet, although it would need some work. Long Beach or even Portland, both champ car tracks, would surely be better circuits than the go-kart track that is Indy. I'd also be good for the car companies, I believe both Toyota and Honda have huge operations in California.

Elkhart Lake and Road Atlanta would both be amazing tracks to see F1 on, but I think they'd have a hard time drawing a crowd. The south is Nascar country and Elkhart Lake has just been struggling in general lately, despite being far and away the best circuit in the US. And don't even bring up the oval idea again, there's way too much of that here already. Go watch Nascar or even the IRL if you want, don't bring it into F1.

Build a dedicated circuit of decent length (about 3 miles) and a decent lap speed (slower than 80 seconds) that does NOT utilise banking, so that the Michelin fiasco doesn't ever happen again. Heck, Hermann Tilke could probably build a decent circuit for decent money that could draw the crowds! Maybe stick an oval around the outside so the IRL or NASCAR can race there, but America needs a dedicated Formula 1 circuit to survive, in my opinion.

I'm gonna get so much backlash for this!

As an American I can tell you what I would like to see:

A F1 race back at Watkins Glen or another historic circuit in addition to Indy.

A weekend festival type atmosphere at the race, with stuff to do between sessions. Concerts, F1 racing displays, food and souvenir vendors, along with autograph sessions early in the week with the F1 drivers. Open day in the paddock too before practice starts for the F1 race.

As far as racing on ovals, I would rather watch paint dry than suffer through that....

short of running the race somewhere like Long Beach Indianopolis is the best overall solution

Anywhere in America but a street circuit. I don't have much of a problem with the Indy circuit, so long as Michelin don't have the tyre problems again.
Road Atlanta Road Atlanta!!

I'd just love to see F1 Cars running thru the esses, Would probably need extending at the far end or laptimes would be under a minute :/

The US should copy what Melbourne do

The whole time your down there is a Party much like one Jagdpanzer describes

The Thunder from Downunder

Theres some pretty obvious things people are missing here

Ways Formula 1 can be welcomed in the United States

1) Dont do a Ferrari 2002 and @#$%& the fans out of a race. American race fans dont accept race fixing as much as others do

2) Dont do a Michelin 2005 and screw the fans out of a race. Americans dont really like that either

Formula 1 is Europes biggest motorsport. Without Formula 1, European motorsports might struggle a bit. European motorsports NEEDs Formula 1

American doesnt need Formula 1. It has CART, IRL, NASCAR (3 levels of it too) as well as ALMS and Grand Am. America has its own motorsports cluture obtained within its boreders and immediate countries. It has no need for F1. If F1 wants to break into America it has to be DAM good to watch otherwise it'll never be able to compete with Americas own series. It has to offer America something its other motorsports doesnt have, and currently all it has offered is screw ups.

If F1 wants to be welcomed into America it has to clean up its image, stop being elitest, drop the "stuck up its own arse" attitude that it carries with it and stop screwing up on American soil.

a four race series held in long beach, indy, montreal and watkins glen over a fixed period - maybe co ordinate it so the other major series are taking a break then. call it something silly like the north american f1 series.
have 4 cars per race for local amercian stars to compete in.

I understand this. Just about every NASCAR race is like a city inside the infield. Uusually there is a concert the Saturday before the NCS race (or for Saturday races, the Friday before the race, or after the race).

That sounds like a great idea, but would the FIA go for it? Otherwise, you might as well call it CART Jr.
