GP2 Manager - 2005: Silverstone Free Practice & Qualification Results PG36 - Searching for a new manager!

GP2 Manager

Basic Idea

The first racing manager game first appeared on Grandprixgames with the introduction of an F1 manager series. However with this series now into its second season with the waiting list slowly increasing I felt that this would be the perfect time to introduce a GP2 manager series. This series gives 11 lucky players to manager either an existing GP2 team or their own outfit to glory, whilst they for a vacancy to arise in the main game. The managers can do this by selecting different engines as well as the drivers who will drive their cars. Also note that by applying for this series, you will be automatically added to the waiting list for the F1 Manager game.

Teams
Teams have been allocated at random from the 2005 season.
Teams will follow as they do in each season. This means new teams will offer existing teams a chance to be took over. If in reality a new team entered GP2 Series, your self created team may get a take over offer or a partnership offer. In both cases the manager stays the same but the team name, liveries etc may change. Do not think you will automatically get the success the team has in real life. Remember a lot of this is down to your decision making and a bit of luck of course.

Reserve Managers:
When a team becomes available the first manage on the list will be offered the job, if he rejects the offer the next person on the list will be offered the job. If more than one team is available the first person on the list can choose which team to sign for. When a manager inherits a team they must be aware that they will also inherit any drivers or team takeovers as well as the team’s current budget.

Race Weekend
On Friday, drivers have a 30-minute free practice session and a 30-minute qualifying session. The qualifying session decides the grid order for Saturday's race which has a length of 180 kilometres (1 hour). Furthermore the driver setting pole position is awarded 2 points. During Saturday's race, each driver has to make at least one pit stop. The first 8 drivers score points.

On Sunday there is a sprint race of 120 kilometres (45 min). The grid is decided by the Saturday result with top 8 being reversed, so the driver who finished 8th on Saturday will start from pole position and the winner will start from 8th place. Pitting is not allowed during Sprint race. In this race only the first 6 drivers score points.

In each race, the driver setting the fastest laptime scores one point as well.

Drivers
Drivers will be ready at random times throughout the season for contract negotiations. Engines can be signed at any time.

Drivers have a set minimum contract offer. Anything offered below this will be rejected. The driver will accept the offer which promises the best chances to jump into the F1 one day. Also F1 teams may also give contract offers to GP2 drivers. In this case it is highly possible, that the driver will change to the F1 Team (except the GP2 team offers a lot more). Also GP2 teams will be able to bid for F1 drivers however only some will be willing to leave F1, so we won’t be seeing the likes of Schumacher or Raikkonen in GP2 any time soon as you will be more likely to sign older and younger drivers.

Each team must have at least two drivers (2 race drivers) but test drivers are optional.

When making an offer for a GP2 Driver, send a pm to me (Reve-san) with your offer and the driver(s) you wish to contact. Keep in mind other teams may be bidding for this driver, however they may not be. Offers for F1 Drivers go to Twigster151. You can see the F1 drivers available for negotiations in the F1 Main Thread.

The drivers that will be available for negotiations will include those who joined GP2 in 2005, as well as rising stars and older drivers from other series around the world i.e. Indycar, Champcar, Formula Renault etc. Remember that not all drivers from these series will be available. Drivers will have a set time to receive offers (e.g. 1 round or 2 weeks). After that they will decide who to join. If they have no offers then they will remain available for contract talks.

It is also possible for GP2 managers to ‘loan’ test drivers from the F1 series. This is particularly useful for GP2 managers as whilst the price maybe similar to the free agent GP2 drivers, F1 test drivers are likely to be much more experienced and skillful then the GP2 rookies.

Note, that the following drivers are not allowed to join GP2 Series:
-> Drivers, who have driven a whole season in Formula 1 Manager
-> Drivers, who are over the age of 30
-> Drivers, who have won the GP2 Championship

Loan Drivers (F1 Team) - Age, Cost

TBA

Engines
Each team must choose between one of the following engine manufacturers. Be aware, that each Engine Manufacturer is only allowed to support 4 Teams. So if you are a new customer it would be wise to offer a bit more money, to make sure the manufacturer will choose you. Success may be of some help as well.

BMW - £7.5m (no teams left)
Ferrari - £6.5m (1 team left)
Mercedes - £7.5m (1 team left)
Nissan - £6.5m (max 3 teams)
Renault - £7.5m (2 teams left)
Volkswagen - £5.5m (max 1 team)

Tyres
Tyres will be delivered by Bridgestone and will not cost you anything.

Sister Teams
In addition to F1 teams being able to loan their test drivers to GP2 teams we have decided to take this idea one step further. So F1 teams can now choose to sponsor one of the GP2 teams by paying a lump sum or a race by race fee (coming out of the F1 teams main budget) to the GP2 team in question, which they can then use to develop their team. In return the two teams are treated as one in that they can interchange drivers between the two teams as they wish and free of charge. It is also possible to rename the GP2 team to show the relationship between the two teams.

Sister Contracts 2005
GP2 Team (new Name) - F1 Team, payment
Super Nova Racing (---) - McLaren, £0
DAMS (Red Bull Racing Junior) - Jaguar/Red Bull, £2m
Campos Racing (---) - Minardi F1, £0
Arden International (Sauber GP2) - Sauber F1, £0
DSR Racing (---) - Ferrari, £0
ART Grand Prix (ART Williams) - Williams, £0

Sister Contracts 2006

TBA

2005 Budgets (new)

At the end of season you will be awarded money depending on the position you reach in the constructors championship at the end of the year: (new)
1. £22m
2. £20m
3. £18m
4. £16m
5. £14m
6. £13m
7. £12m
8. £11m
9. £10m
10. £9m
11. £8m

The World Driver Champions team will get £2m as well.

Testing
Test Sessions will be held throughout the season and will cost you £250k per session. By collecting and sending important data to your engine manufacturer, they can benefit from these test tessions. This will cost you £250k again (£500k for one test session in total). Be aware, that after collecting enough data, the manufacturer will send an update to all their customers. On the other hand the manufacturer may thank you by offering a good contract to you for the next years engine. Also note, that your drivers will benefit from test sessions as well. So choose wisely if you want to participate and if you want collect data for your engine manufacturer.

Setup Reward
A setup bonus is available every race weekend during Friday free practice. The closer your drivers times the better the reward. The top 3 teams get a 30 driver performance bonus and a 5 bhp boost. Places 4th to 6th get 15 driver performance bonus and 3 bhp boost but it is only for that race weekend. The perfs then return to default ready for the next friday practice session. In order for a team to qualify for the setup reward at least one of their two drivers must post a time.

How to start
If you want to join GP2 Manager, just post a reply in this thread and you will be added to the waiting list. As soon as someone retires you get the chance to enter.

If you create your own team you´ll have to think of your own name and make the liveries on your own, using this GP2 2005 Template. Note that if you want to you can take an existing team and still create your own car livery. But take in mind that you are creating a GP2-Series car, so don´t put too many sponsors on your car. Try to make it as realistic as possible.

At first no , however if the series is struggling for managers I see no reason why you can't make up the numbers :)

Well if there aren´t enough managers you could enter, but let´s wait a bit first. After all it would be unfair if one user has 2 teams and another one can´t enter because of this. But I´ll come back to you ^^

Edit: Too slow ^^
Also: @ricktworick1: added you ^^

As I have a team in the F1 Series I would like to be placed on the waiting list of this series in the case there is not enough managers for this series.

If I do get a spot, is it possible for me to enter my own team? I would like to call it Junior Red Bull Racing.

I have the old GP2 shape and template so I would be able to make the livery for it.

Also I would be able to make any liveries that are needed if you can't find them.

Good luck on running the series and I will be eagerly awaiting to see if I get in the series.

Cheers

Allright, that makes 8 (10 with the two F1 Managers) managers in a bit more than 24 hours. Awesome :)
Seems like negotiations can start pretty soon ^^
