That's what I'm getting at. I can't stand much of it but I know far more people who are obsessed and immersed in this pop culture of x-faxctor, big brother, come dancing kind of thing than I do of people who have a heavy interest in F1. Many people who know me know I like F1 but say things like "oh are you off to watch your car racing then?" in tone of complete lack of interest nor knowledge. But that's ok because I completely ignore their pop culture.

Whatever the BBC do, someone is always going to be unhappy about. "I don't like f1... Why should I have to pay my license fee towards it?" kind of thing. It's not a while lot different from my replying "well I hate Eastenders yet part of my liscence contributions still go towards that.."

So most of us on this forum aren't going to be very impressed by this "voice" thing. But we're quite a specialised forum. The wider public are evidently very much into that kind of thing.

It's the cost of it though. Surely such a talent show should be about... well the talent. It should be a programme which is cheap to produce. Spending 8 figures on the hosts is just insane.

and don't forget, any "talent" show which asks viewers to vote on acts makes many millions of pounds, and so even though they are spending 22mil on making it, they will make that back after a few shows, if each vote costs the viewer £1 and they get about 8 mmillion viewers each week.

not only would F1 probably be more expensive to put on, but it wouldn't generate any money either. you can understand why the bosses of tv channels will move towards this kind of tv show when budgets are being cut.

@ Loque, maybe a kind forum member who is also a Sky subscriber could allow you to use their Sky Go account details? any offers?

I heard the BBC advertising its F1 coverage on Radio 1 this morning - the live radio coverage and the "highlights on BBC1 from 2PM". Ugh! We might still have access to live coverge on TV, but it'll still suck not having it on any of the terrestrial channels :-/

Yeah they're pushing the line that people don't want to get up early or give up a large proportion of their weekend day to watch F1 and would rather watch it during a "prime time" slot. Well they could do that already by pressing the record button.

Still it is what it is, and I've just about got two options for watching Sky coverage without having sky now, and if Murdoch's croonies are reading.. I'm going round my mates or the pub (B)

If the Beeb are changing the intro, then if it's anything like the outro to the Inside F1 advert on the BBC website, then it harks back to the BBC intros of old. I really don't like the current one - it seems at odds to the coverage and what BBC F1 has always been.

The sky intro has some brilliant clips of footage... But they ruined it with their choice of music. Nothing against the artist but it just doesn't work when you're viewing images of the sport from e 50s 60s 70s etc.

We'll all do the same thing...

When BBC are showing live footage we will watch the chain, then maybe switch over. Or if you're mega prepared, you'll have a recording of the chain ready before every race in the cd player and simply press play :D!!

The chain to Sky's video would be awesome. They have ruined an amazing collection of images and videos. Natural sounds would have been perfect, that or the sound of a Ferrari v12.

I'll be keen to see how the BBC live coverage works this year, so when they show their first race live I'll probably watch it from start to finish. I doubt it'll be anything like as good as it was though.

Very very upset with the Sky coverage this morning.

What difference did I get from the BBC, oh yes adverts nearly every 10 mins.

What the hell are we paying for?

It was a bit irritating for sure (glad I didn't open my wallet to SKY). It has some good factors but it certiainly didn't gel in the way the BBC coverage did.

Cons: Some of the I assume Sky News pundits were bland and you wondered what they were doing there. Adverts.. ok when there's bugger all happening SKY will obviously want to please their commercial partners but it was a bit trigger happy. The VT i.e pre recorded clips are bland and boring, feels a bit too much like they're covering Eurovision! and certainly not want you want to see when there is actually action on track. Whilst I have nothing against Simon Lazenby I prefer Jake Humphrey so far, likewise Lee Mckenzie to Georgie whatever her name is .Crofty and Davidson didn't feel as chatty as they did on 5Live which is a shame because the informal feel of the BBC live practice worked well (inspite of Davidson being a cock).

In someways it felt a bit too much "football" which I admit I'm bound to dislike because I hate every facet of football.

Pros: Martin Brundle, as valuable as ever and he took to pit-lane punditary aplomb, it almost felt like his grid walk. Damon Hill didn't do too badly inspite of his "um.. erm.. ah. umm... errr"

I thought it was ok, not as good as BBC but better than ITV.

Constant adverts for sky got annoying, yes we understand you can watch f1 on skyf1hd5.1 as well as anything with a apple badge on. Seemed a little sterile as well.

Yeh i found the adverts to be my mine problem. Im happy that free practise still has the same line up in the commentary team, and brundle is still brundle, but putting two sets of adverts on within five minutes just because nothing is happening is damn annoying.

Could you imagine all the ad breaks they would have had in Canada last year. We would have missed all the funny stuff happening.

Yeah it is quite annoying be a Virgin customer, we don't get the HD, 5.1 or use of the companion apps. I just hope we get to use the red button on raceday!

There won't be any ads during the race.
