in short: a utopia as defined in b) does exist and can be reached but it is possible that we'll not be able to find it. i guess if we find it there won't be standstill as due to the change in external variables mankind will always have to adapt an find new solutions to problems. maybe one could even say that we won't be able to find the actual utopia but only yesterday's utopiby Nickv - Off-Topic
That Kimi Raikkonen reference is quite good there Dan. When he achieved his goal (F1 WDC), he stopped developing and eventually lost motivation and stopped. Once Utopia is achieved, there is nothing to work for other than survival and we'll drop back to square 1 like you said.by Nickv - Off-Topic
It's competition that brings innovation. Communism tried to form a common interest (welfare for all by working hard for the community), but since people didn't benefit if they worked harder, but only benefited if everyone worked harder, there was no incentive to work harder. It's very similar to the prisoner's dilemma actually. Here's another brain wave. What if the cby Nickv - Off-Topic

There are so many people on the planet that it's impossible to form a perfect world for everyone with the situation the earth is in today. The only instance I could think of is the common enemy, like having a war with another planet. Then our common interest is win that war. Even that interest is somewhat artificial because we set aside all our other interests temporarily. As long as there aby Nickv - Off-Topic
Not so much mistakes were the reason of freak results, it was more reliability. It was pretty common to have under ten cars finish a race. With gearboxes these days that have to last a decade and the engine freeze, no developmental limits are crossed. Everything within those limits is made to perfection. The top 10 of the races with the most finishers has 5 2010 races. This however poses a dilemmby Nickv - F1
Oh I'm not saying Stoddart was a good guy, he just wasn't all to blame in this particular situation, even though he could've been a real man by keeping his cars in the pit lane. Stoddart was a character and that's where his addition to F1 stops. He tried to bend the rules because he didn't have his job done etc. F1 is better off without him. Kolles is the same, although hby Nickv - F1

Yes, they are. I love their take on the drivers' complaints about the amount of marbles off the racing line. 'Well yeah, tyres wear and the rubber has to go somewhere'.by Nickv - F1

Race stewards shouldn't hand out penalties when they see fit in these kind of instances (pit lane speeding and jump starts are another matter of course). IMO they should only review an incident when a team complains.by Nickv - F1
Because they said they'd be the ones challenging the RedBulls and when they couldn't, they said they would have their act together in Malaysia, which they hadn't.by Nickv - F1

Overreaction, in both instances. I can't recall Hamilton making two moves and Alonso simply made a judgemental error, which can happen to anybody. EDIT: Same goes for the stop-and-go penalty Buemi recieved. Drivers have always been handed a drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane and that has always sufficed and would have now.by Nickv - F1

Depends. When RB are in front of the Ferraris they'll just disappear into the distance. When Ferrari can get their cars in front of them, they may be able to hold them back. Especially with the tyre wear apparently being higher over at RB, Ferrari might be able to stay ahead during the pitstops.by Nickv - F1
Even the Spanish motorsport federation has said that they need to get their act together. They don't want to see any amateurish teams in F1.by Nickv - F1
Has anyone actually noticed HRT being absent during the race? It hadn't crossed my mind until just now. Kind of shows what a wonderful addition they are to F1.by Nickv - F1
