Please keep rumours and unsourced information down to a minimum, its quite a sensitive time for all of us, we would all sincerely appreciate it.

I've heard 280 MPH trying to set a landspeed record on a runway. Can't really say thats the smartest thing to do.

Hope he recovers soon!

ITV are saying he was conscious when he arrived at hospital. Sounds hopeful.

i just heard on Radio 2 news that they airlifted him to a larger teaching hospital, rather than any of the hospitals closer to the place of the accident, indicating the seriousness of his injuries.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

I didn't really realise the risks the presenters take, even when I saw risky things being done I just assumed it was edited or made to look riskier if you see what i mean (a bit like the caravan fire). It's quite surprising the amount of things he did on that show considering he's a TV presenter not a racing driver. great guy, he certainly made my sunday nights entertaining!

heard from someone who was there(a fireman in the safety crew that drives behind the car on every run to check the car), on This Morning, he said Rich had made 6 or 7 runs already, slowly building up speed, and on the run before the accident, he had just about equalled the British record, 300.3 mph. they decided to have 1 more, and after he had finished the attempt, he switched the fuel pump off by pulling a lever, then deployed the parachutes before applying the normal brakes, but it seems something went wrong with the 'chutes because it pulled to the right and onto the grass, rolling it a few times. although he had a roll hoop on the "Vampire" car, rolling in grass/mud is obviously not good because it can dig in, allowing the head to still make contact with the ground.

Jeremy C and Perry McCarthy have just been to see him, i heard on the radio.

I'm not even sure the hoop survived, as when the on-site firemen first arrived at the scene they had to dig his helmet out from the soil, nevermind the roll-cage.

Everything we've heard so far is positive news, so here's to hoping he makes a swift and complete recovery.

listening to the debate/phone-in on Radio 2 with Jeremy Vine, most people are concerned for Rich, but a few said it's his own fault and shows like Top Gear advocate speeding and give encouragement to joyriders. the idiots said he is glorifying speed by going over 200mph. but it was a speed attempt so of course he's going to be travelling at high speed. and he was doing it in a controlled environment, he wasn't doing it in a roadcar on a public highway.

and some people have talked sense saying they hope that stuff like this doesnt get banned, and we don't get a society wrapped up in cotton wool. they also spoke to Jason Barlow and Jon Tickle.
