Sorry, but i have a new problem...
I want to place a trackmap in background of the track, to paint he layout. I've done everything your tutorial says, but when i load the .gp4 File in 3D-Editor i see all objects. The white tga-file loads. How can i make this tga-file in paintshop pro (i know how to do a tga file, but which dimensions and colour must it have?

Thank you for your help

colour is your own pick, and dimensions dont really matter because you will "make" the dimensions when you are stretching the surface in 3deditor.

My take on this:

-Find the most detailed trackmap (something like 1024x768 would be nice).
-Save it on your HD as a BMP file (Width and Height must be multiples of 4).
-Open it in Photoshop or PSP.
-Save it as a 32Bit TGA file.
-Convert the TGA to TEX with Texeditor.
-Copy both the TGA and TEX to the directory where you put all your texs and .gp4 file.
-Open 3DE and load the .gp4 file.
-Add new horizontal object.
-Add a new texture (the trackmap).
-Move it so the s/f line of your track matches the s/f line on the trackmap.
-Start modeling. :-)

I have few questions :
-is it possible to delete some existing objects in the original gp4 file ?
-are there specifics scene where to import for example grass or created objects ?
-I made a track with created objects but the textures are odd. The texture is 1024*1024 and the alpha layer is ok. Do you have explanation about this ?

thank you

1: Now it is.
2: Yes. I think it was Maverick who recommended to import most new objects in the scene where the grass and the track tarmac are.
3: Don't know. Can't help you there I'm afraid.
My knowledge is limited to the .dat level at the moment. :-)

Try Texresizer for your Tex-Textures. There you can set up the texturesize that is displayed in GP4. Seems yours is getting downsampled.

thanks for reply, it works fine now. The texture was sized 128*256 instead of 1024*1024.
I couldn't delete objects because i had the version 13b of 3deditor.

First, i'm not english so my english may is not good.

Hello i'm new here. I and one friend are making an Urban Circuit of the city of Sevilla, in Spain. We have done everything like it should be do, but when we open gp4.exe and click to load the map, gp4 closes. This is the circuit:

this is the original map:
[i3.photobucket.com]

and this is the track in gp4:
[i3.photobucket.com]

you can see all flags are put in the circuit. CC-Line is done too. We don't know what is the failure in the dat file. Can you help me??

To Maverick: Great tutorial!!!

your cc-line could be the problem... it doesn't seem like it's going inside the track

also, and i don't if could be something to make gp4 crash, but create a *.col file to put in the *.wad

well, if it doesn't work without a ccline, how did you make the ccline? Cause ingame testing is surely nescesarry for that. Anyway, you shoudl check very carefully the positions of your flags, if they are not in the right place your track wont load either.
