In the last laps Lauda's oil pressure was fading and Fittipaldi was closing. With three laps left the gap was 2.75 seconds, however,the two hour time limit was reached and the race was stopped, with Lauda winning.
I have no idea if this was the first time.

F1 The reason we look back at the 90s as being great is that in many years, there were two drivers from two teams that battled it out. We had this kind of titan clash that everyone loved (usualy Schumacher vs someone else). You were in one camp or the other. And you bloody hated the other camp. There was temperament. But let's be honest, racing itself was only so-so compared what we have today.

Off-Topic Just a thought from a guy with the technical abilities of a clown: could it be that the microphones used to record the sound are calibrated to pick up the noise of the V8? Those noises have a much higher pitch than the low rumbling of the V6. Also, FOM have taken the sector times out of the live timing in order to force you to buy their app. However, it's only for iOS and Android and I have neither. Is there any other place you lot know of where I can follow sector times?

F1 I think it's because of the the new 8 speed gear box and the lower rev limit, rather than the engine configuration itself. It seems like they're short shifting all the time. I guess that just takes some getting used to, but it would be nice if they up the rev limit a bit.

I don't think I agree with the parts not being there. Last year for example, they had the Renault engine which wasn't bad. They had Bottas, of which I think we can all agree has speed. F1 Well, that depends on the language you pronounce it in. The English have the habit of adding an R that isn't there when a word ends with A. The worst offender being Jeremy Clarkson's Honderesstwothousand. It's pronounced Mahsah and Nahsser. I think.
As for the yearly Williams-is-really-going-to-be-lots-better-this-year-mantra, I remain sceptical. The ingredients seem to be there

Off-Topic Not too keen on the Ferrari. I like the McLaren better. I do like the variation though, it's been a long time since I could recognize a team by its car shape. I am looking forward to someone explaining the technical benfits of all approaches.

I think the colours are great, but there is little coherence between the several differently coloured parts. It's a random dash of white here and a random green line there. It needs a bit of work.

F1 I'm sure doubling the points has benefits. However, a fluke result in the last race is doubled too. Especially in the midfield, this can mean a lot in the WCC standings. I can't see why a fluke in the last race should count double over a fluke in the 8th race. Sooner or later, this will produce unfair championship outcomes, like when Senna won with less points than Prost (?). If it'

F1 The two mandatory pitstops idea is by far the worst. Not only do drivers have to make these two stops, they can also only drive a maximum percentage of laps on either of the two compounds. It's ridiculous and makes it all even more complicated. It's complicated enough as it is for the casual F1 fan. Not to mention you could fire the whole strategy department.

F1 While he has the raw speed, he very much lacks the race craft and sense. IMO, those are vital parts of being talented as a driver. Raw speed isn't everything. His temperament (we call it temperament, but let's be honest, we all really mean hot-headedness and sometimes even idiocy) is clearly overshadowing and affecting his speed.
