I'm here - does that still count? I've been busy over the last few days...I don't think it's very fair that I get demoted even though I did say...it's only 4 days...I mean, if it was a week or two...but 4 days...it's not exactly much now, is it...

But yeah, qualifying was good so far. Hope for more of the same :)

EDIT: I've just looked in the rules and there is absolutely nothing about a 4 day thing...if we all accept a compromise and say I get the perf penalty, but no demotion to test driver (it's 4 days guys...not even a week of inactivity)...

GPGSL Round 12 Austrian GP - Qualifying Part 2

We are back from our break, sorry for the slight delay in posting but this coverage coincided with the GPGSL activity check, so i wanted to wait so that Dean could finish his report before posting the qualifying. Anyway that is not important and we are here now, ready to provide you with the second part of the qualifying, ready to find out who will sit in pole position for the race tomorrow, so down to the track!

And as we go down, we see that Hinz is facing the completely the wrong way... The destroyed lap shows as he ends up with a time 59 seconds down on the lead, he will want another go.

Johnson has another stab at a lap, and he puts himself up into 20th, but VSM really look off the pace this weekend...

Cartright has to break rather heavily to avoid running into the back of an Aston entering the pits! The issue shows up in his time, its 3 seconds of for him.

Steer drives over the line ahead of his more experienced team-mate and... he shows him hows its done around this track as he gets into 15th place.

Worseling seems like he has a specific row in mind for his start as he puts himself back up into 11th place yet again around there...

Maverick crosses the line, and thats slower than before, although they main problem seems to be Vilela going slower infront of him.

Hunsley is doing his best to make his way up the grid, and he succeeds with a 16th place time.

Houston is looking a lot more competitive than all those that go before, as he makes he way up into 4th place, with what is a quite fast lap.

Not long at the front though, Hinz gets himself up into 18th place, so we are back scrapping at the back again.

Greidanus is still fighting to keep his midfield place as he has to set another lap to get him into 12th. He doesnt have the speed of Aleksander at all.

Kittleson finally shows some of VSM's potential as he drags his car up to 12th place and takes Greidanus' space straight away.

We have a small break to look at some splits, and in the first sector, both of the Aston's Greenhalgh and Warrington are looking mightly close to the pole sector time...

As the first crosses the line...Greenhalgh has lost more seconds on his pole time so cannot climb up,

Warrington too has slipped further back from the lead, but at the same time he is going faster than his first lap by far...Yes thats the 2nd Aston up into 5th place!

But his achievement is immediately trumped by Horvath who sets a great lap to get himself into 3rd place position and 2nd row!

Oakley finds himself a shade of that, as he sits not on the 2nd row, but way down in 20th, and thats an improvement for him unfortunately...

Johnson shows how much slower the VSM is in comparison to the AMR in the first sector, 3 and a half tenths down.

That turns into a full 7 tenths of a second by the end of the lap, and thats with Johnson going faster than before. Faster as in only getting up to 21st place...

Cars are really beginning to settle and set absolutely no good times at all... but in the meantime, Aleksander is having to chuck away his lap to keep his car in one piece as an MPR enters the pitlane... Lap time lost? Nearly 2.5 seconds...

Infact times have completely dried up, is everyone on race practise at the moment? Session over... Oh wait! Greidanus gets across the line just in time to get himself up to 14th, that was close!

But that means... Congratulations to Ed Greenhalgh of Aston Martin Racing for his pole position! The lap was super quick and whilst Aleksander, Horvath and Sheppard could get close, it simply wasn't close enough to take the lead.

Sorry for the complete lack of action with 17/16/15 minutes to go and afterwards, after this noone set a time or did anything that was worth even commenting, well apart from the stuff that i posted of course ;-). So that's why there isn't much for those time periods at all.

Full qualifying standings:

Hope you enjoyed the coverage, thank you, good night!

I think the deadline is the deadline. It's not too hard to duck in here and see what's going on and make a post or three. If we start to make four day exceptions everyone will expect us to make exceptions for them as well. Up to Dean but you'll probably have to cop it sweet.

Well, I'm using the notifications Mal posts on Facebook for stuff. So if I see something on Facebook that Mal's posted, I'll go and have a look at it. I know it's completely my fault sometimes, and maybe this could have come one of those, but I mean, 4 days inactivity and I'm demoted? It was so much better when Nick was here, seriously...activity checks have gone too far now. I understand that the W300 died because of inactivity, but not 4 days inactivity...

EDIT: I understand Mal. It's just...4 days...that's nothing...

EDIT: OK, I'll take the penalty. But I have one request: that the activity rules should be reviewed at the end of the season. If I get a penalty for going on holiday and then 4 days inactivity, something's gone wrong there. That is my one and only request.

Nice to get another pole!

It should be a very intriguing start to the race with Marko alongside me!

15th and 21st, not what we've expected but still... the fierld is so damned close...

Oops sorry to anyone who noticed and expected a seperate post for the qualifying results, but i bunged them in the final qualifying part soooo sorry but scroll up and they are there...

Anyway... where did i finish again? Oh yeh 16th, urmmm points possible from there, but that depends if im as good as Jack at getting points from nowhere in the race. Then again Jack may need that skill this weekend for himself, unlucky to start in last.

Hope the coverage was satisfactory, if not better. Satisfactory will do though :)

It really doesn't take much for you to just pop in here after you have returned from holiday just to say you are back Philip. Everyone else does.

I think that's a bit harsh personally Dean does a fantastic job. I actually don't understand how anyone can be inactive, it only takes five minutes to log on and post some vague BS to do with the upcoming race...

OT:

Very average quali for Chris and I, plan is to keep the car on the road and hope others further up the field make the mistakes.

Dean's doing a better job than Nick organisation wise...what I meant was the rules were better when Nick was here. And the GPGSL didn't exactly die of inactivity when Nick was activity checker, did it?

So you'd rather go back to the situation of having ghost drivers and team managers taking places from those who can be bothered to stay active?

Good to see both cars in the top 10, hopefully we can have a good race :) Too bad we keep suffering from 'The Alpha Syndrome', looking good in the first part of qualy, but then not being able to improve our times and so we fall down the order..

We won't be reviewing the inactivity rules just to suit one user, the rules work well for everyone else, and let's face it, (pardon the pun) if you can be on facebook all day and adding people from this site to the gpg group, it's not hard to look in and see what's going on here. Using facebook for notifications of what's happening in this thread is not the way to do it.
If you want to have a good performance in the series, and a chance at winning or at the very least a good finish in the championship you have to participate. We can't have drivers that choose to be inactive winning this. The GPGSL team, and the guest race directors, put in a huge effort behind the scenes just to keep this up and running for your enjoyment. Considering how much is done behind the scenes, like the mod building by Ruben, the perf and boost tables and the results screens, and the events, we don't ask for much in return. If you want to be a part of it, you make it so.

But it wasn't like that. I remember stuff like Series 2 (with my EasyJet car!) and 95% of people were active.

The W300 died because of inactivity, so I understand it's vital to have activity rules here, to keep the GPGSL going long into the future. But the GPGSL has never got anywhere near the state the W300 was in, so why the (in my view) the unnecessarily struct rules, but when Nick was here, activity was the same, with (again, in my view) better rules?

Anyway, I really really don't want to argue. The GPGSL is a great series, gpg as a whole is the friendliest, tightnit community forum I've found. So kudos to everyone who helped shape gpg :)
