Toyota Statement

Another proud day for our team with a second straight podium in a row for JV!..Also cristiano drove great to come from the back of the grid to 9th..Also a delight for us to be sitting 3rd in the constructors championship..:)
I wonder would it be possible to introduce multi-year contracts for drivers. I envisage it working along the lines that it does now but that drivers have a value for a one year deal, two year deal and the maximum three year deal. This value would then decrease slightly to make a longer, multi-year deal more beneficial for the team.

For example, to sign Schumacher for one year you might need £9m. Under the current system you would then need approx £9m again, or indeed more, the next year, just to re-sign him. Under the new proposal he would still ask £9m for one year but £15m for two years straight up, meaning that you save £3m in the long run and potentially more if he were to win the WDC and his price went up (You would still only have paid your original £15m).

This would then add a another level to team management as you would be able to build a team around a driver but also add the risk of being tied into a contract with a dud driver. It would also mean that if you wanted to sign a driver who was already tied into a long-term contract you would have to pay a compensation fee to his team to release him (Say 25% of the original transfer fee).

Anyways, just a thought, probably not workable at all. Let me know what you think.

I like this idea, maybe you could add in something where you could sell a driver. It could be a good way for the smaller teams to make some money.

I think its a great idea :)
I suppose we could introduce a multi-year contract systemfor the 2006 season as it is already too late to implement it for 2005. Although the slight drawback I can see is that the top drivers are worth upwards of £15m meaning that you could be paying £30m or more to sign them for two years, but then again I suppose that would add to the tactical side of being a manager. Plus if one manager puts a bid in for a single year and another for two or three years how would we decide who acquires the drivers services. But then again we've got plenty of time to work out these kinks :)

As for Macca's driver buying idea I see no reason why we can't implement this right now. I'll put up a list of the drivers who have signed contracts for 2005 in the OP of this thread with the prices the managers paid for them and make an official announcement later :)

In case that a driver is offered a 1 year contract and another for 2 or 3 years by different managers I would propose this system:

-driver X demands £9m for 1 year, £17m for 2 years and £25m for 3 years
-manager A offers £10m for 1 year, manager B £26.5m for 3 years and manager C £17.5m for 2 years
-now we have following difference between offer and demand: A +£1m, B +£1.5m and C +£0.5m
-manager B has the biggest difference so he can sign driver X

I think this would be the most easy way to compare the offers.

Team To Team Driver Negotiations Now Legal

It has been confirmed by the FIA today that from the Canadian Grand Prix onwards team managers will be able to attempt to sign drivers who have already signed a contract by contacting the team with which said driver has signed a contract with an improved offer. Of course team managers are not obliged to accept the offer. Also teams have until the start of 2005 pre-season testing to complete a deal and the FIA must recieve confirmation from both parties that they are happy with the deal before testing starts in order for the deal to go through.

Here is the list of drivers who have already signed contracts for 2005 for those you you who are interested:

Gianmaria Bruni - Jordan - £2m
Sebastian Vettel - McLaren - £10m
Nico Rosberg - McLaren - £8m
David Coulthard - Renault £9m
Nick Heidfeld - Sauber - £9.5
Robert Kubica - Jaguar/Red Bull - £7m
Anthony Davidson - Minardi - £6m
Christian Klien - Minardi - £4m
Gary Paffett - Arrows - £5m

Update On Multi-Year Contracts

After recieving input on the possibility of introducing multi-year driver contracts from several team managers it is highly likely that these contracts will be available starting next season. More to come at a later date.

I'm glad to see the idea is liked and this is exactly the way I would overcome the problem of multi offers...I just couldn't have explained it well enough lol. Looking forward to the next round and next year already.

I assume we send offers to Twigster if the drivers are unattached...

Michael Schumacher top the Friday practice timing sheets after just pipping the young Dutchman Robert Doornbos whilst Ryan Briscoe completed the top three. Overall the teams were much closer then in recent races with 1.5 seconds covering the entire field.

Wow faster than one of the Mclarens. Great job by Trulli. An okay effort by Zonta but its not putting any pressure on Wilson
Montoya On Pole In Montreal

Juan Pablo Montoya continued the Williams run of good form in qualifying this year by taking his third pole position of the season, the Colombian will be joined on the front row by Jaguar's Allan McNish after a flawless lap saw him take second place on the grid whilst Jos Verstappen will start third. Further down the grid Timo Glock could grab his first points of the season after putting his Sauber 8th just two thousandths of a second ahead of Michael Schumacher who could only manage 9th after a difficult session whilst McNish's teammate, Webber, will start Sundays race in eleventh place.

Sauber Statement

6th and 8th is a really positive result...hopefully both drivers will make progress in the race and Timo can pick up his first points for the team.

5th and 7th..anutha great job by our guys :)
Jordan Statement

Good qualy from us here, and the gaps between p2 and p11 and between p12 and p20 are really small, so there is the chance for André and Kimi to climb up a bit in race.
