5th! What a result! That was an incredible race.

Ok, might have been a bit lucky, but I'm really quite pleased with both drivers, Motoyama was within touching distance of a point too.

FAAAAAANTASTIC.

"From the next round onwards Enrique Bernoldi will be demoted to test driver in favour of Mika Salo."

"The team feel that Enrique is not getting the most out of the car and we would like asses were Mika is before the time comes to resign him."

BAR Statement

We're overly happy with the result of this race, it seemed at first no points would be scored, but we got enough fuel in our car when others didn't. It seemed track conditions changed and it affected the fuel consumption of the cars. Our goal is to score 5th place in the constructors' championship with Jenson Button and Takuma Sato as our drivers.

Ferrari statement

After a slightly disappointing qualifying Schumi recovered wonderful in the race and in the end even to take the lead in the WDC. Rubens just had bad luck, we expect him to see back on top very soon.
I'm happy to see red on top of the podium in my first weekend as Ferrari manager. Now that we are all settled it's time to look at the next seasons preparations as well.

surely the most interesting race for the season.

this time everything was ok on the track but we struggle in the pits. really it was a shame to make stops with both cars at the same time, but luckily we got enough fuel on the cars.

now we are 1 point behind williams, so we must continue our performance to catch them on the 3rd place in WCC

Canada was not a good weekend for the team, again out reliability issue's hampered the team's weekend

Europe was an improvement but mark was very unlucky to retire from 6th! Pizzonia did very well to finish 8th and pick up a much deserved point! I can only hope we sort out our reliability problems for next year

it seems we are far from podium in our home race. but we have a strong and a reliable car, so in the race we can improve our position again. Also in this race we will be very careful with our pit stops.

In future, could I have Baumgartner in practice? I need him sharp as I'm intending to put him in for his home race in Hungary.

Good pole for Rubens! Good to see both of our cars on the first to rows, we are going for a 1-2 victory here in France. It's gonna be though tho, the gap's up front are really small and williams seems to be very fast here. As long as we finish in front of McLaren!

ROUND 10 - FRENCH GP - RACE

Williams and Ferrari seemed the strongest teams in qualifying, but with weather forecasts predicting rain mid-race, no one can say who will win this race. Let's see what the race has in store for us

71/71 Barrichello leads the pack out of the first corner. Trouble further back though as M Schumacher clips his brother R Schumacher, forcing Ralf out wide and down to 4th as Ferrari lead 1-2

67/71 Plenty of action further back as Verstappen locks up and is lucky not to take Zonta out

66/71 Verstappen's off and he smashes into the barrier. That's a bad accident

61/71 A look at the top 8 after 10 laps

55/71 First stops begin for drivers on a 3 stop strategy. Barrichello, Montoya, Salo and Motoyama are all on 2 stop strategies

53/71 Well we had predicted rain and here it comes

51/71 A look at the top 8

50/71 Motoyama goes off wide sending him down to 19th. In the background you can see the car of Panis, he went off in 12th but has beached it and retires

48/71 Drivers on a two stop strategy begin their first stops

45/71 After such a good race at Nurburgring, Sato is experiencing the lows of F1 as he retires from 15th with a blown engine

44/71 More problems for BAR as Button is forced into the pits with electrical problems sending him down to 14th from 9th

43/71 What a shame for Arrows. Alex Yoong was having a fantastic drive in 13th but that Cosworth engine has had enough and gives up on him

39/71 Pit stops begin early then as drivers pit for intermediate tyres as the weather gets worse. And the weather conditions are proving tricky as Heidfeld goes off in 8th losing him a place

37/71 Trulli passes Coulthard after he comes out of the pits to take 5th

36/71 A look at the top 8 after those stops

32/71 Alonso is back in the pits with an electrical problem. He leaves the pits in 11th

23/71 Final pit stops begin

22/71 Pizzonia retires from 16th with suspension issues. Disaster for Jordan as Motoyama goes off again, this time he slides back onto the track and smashes into Fisichella ending both of their races. Fisichella was in 9th. Upfront M Schumacher makes a mistake costing him some time

21/71 Another big crash for Minardi, as Wilson makes a mistake under braking, he goes side ways before taking to the air and fliping his car. Minardi are going to have their work cut out repairing their cars. Wilson was running in 13th

19/71 Barrichello's race comes to an end after his Ferrari engine blows up on him. Looks like Magny Cours' testing those engines today

17/71 A look at the top 8 as we near the end of the race

15/71 Well once again McLaren have called their drivers in before the end of the race. Are we seeing a repeat of the Nurburgring incident? No i dont think so, he's changing tyres and now it seems that the rest of the pack are following his choice. Most drivers have pitted at least 4 times now.

13/71 After those quick stops, Raikkonen had managed to take 4th but has now gone off and is now 8th!

11/71 Another double retirement for Arrows as Salo makes a mistake and beaches his car, retiring from 13th

9/71 A look at the top 8 with less then 10 laps to go

6/71 Montoya makes a mistake in 2nd, we see him rejoining in 5th!

5/71 Well it's another retirement for Mark Webber as he pulls out of 9th with a puncture

3/71 Raikkonen's off again, losing a place from 7th. He is throwing this championship battle away

0/71 M Schumacher wins yest again as he takes full control of this championship!

Latest News

Minardi duo unhurt

Following the big crashes that Minardi suffered at the weekend, it has been announced that both Verstappen and Wilson were unhurt and were both able to walk away from their cars. Wilson flipped his car, raising questions about the safety of the French circuit. Verstappen's accident also questioned the track safety after hitting the gravel was not enough as he hit the barrier close to 100mph. Although on the other hand, the announcement is a testiment to how strong these F1 cars are becoming.

Raikkonen joins Renault

Kimi Raikkonen shocked the paddock after today's race announcing he was leaving McLaren for Renault. The move comes as a shock as McLaren had been hoping to retain their driver line up for next season, but McLaren fell short of the £18m contract that Renault had offered the Finn. Williams were also thought to be after his services but could only match McLaren's bid

Montoya staying with Williams

Williams have won the race to retain their Columbian ace Juan-Pablo Montoya. Montoya had become a target for McLaren to replace outbound Kimi Raikkonen, but failed to offer more then Williams' £16m contract offer. It is yet to be seen who will partner Montoya in the other Williams car

Motoyama at Jordan for 2004

Following his F1 debut at Nurburgring, Jordan thought that his drive was enough for him to earn a £3m contract at the team. No other teams showed interest

Sato joins R Schumacher at BAR

Takuma Sato will join R Schumacher at BAR next season. Sato who has impressed this season at BAR, replaced Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix and looks to keep his seat for the remainder of the season. And it wasn't just BAR who were impressed by their driver, as Jaguar were also chasing the 26 year old, and although they matched BAR's offer, it is thought Sato wanted to stay with his current team after they give him his chance this season

Ferrari announce Dutch pair

Ferrari look like they are after some Dutch flair for next season. They made a surprise move for Minardi driver Jos Verstappen, offering him £7m for 2004, and it is thought he will take the 2nd race seat, replacing Barrichello, who it looks like doesn't have a future at the team. Robert Doornbos is the other driver, signing for a £3m contract and will take a test role at the team.

M Schumacher Confident

M Schumacher has said that confidence is high at Ferrari following MDBSnake's arrival. The German won his 4th consecutive race and his 5th of the season at Magny Cour as he took an 11 point lead over McLaren driver Raikkonen. "The car and team are perfect at the moment, i think this could be the best car ive ever driven."
McLaren have their work cut out to close the gap in both the WDC and WCC, but surely today's news of Raikkonen leaving for Renault will be a blow to their 2003 season. When asked about his future though, Schumacher wouldn't give an answer. "I'm concentrating on this season, i will decide soon about 2004".

McLaren Statement

Firstly we are very pleased with Coulthard's podium in France and also slightly disappointed with Raikkonen's mistakes late on in the race even though he still took a point.

We are sad to see Kimi leave the team to join Renault for the 2004 season however we wish him well and respect his decision. We are also upset to have missed out sign the raising star that is Juan Pablo Montoya, although our budget restricted the amount we could offer for him. However we will be watching him closely in the future.

Also we are currently evaluating who will replace Kimi at McLaren next season as well as who will replace Alex who left for Arrows earlier in the season. We do have a few drivers in mind.

It is also clear that Ferrari are edging away from us a few points every race so we are looking to be much more consistent in the remaining races to have any chance of being able to fight for the both titles.
