ROUND 5 - SPANISH GP - RACE

Today sees us coming live to you from the catalunyan track in Barcelona for the Spanish GP. Qualifying saw Raikkonen and Coulthard take the front row for McLaren. But can the McLaren pair turn that into success in the race? and how will Barrichello and Montoya fair coming through the pack? Can Jaguar get there first points of the season? There's only one way to find out, lets get down to the grid for the start of the race!

65/65 R Schumacher rifles off the grid and pips both McLaren's to the first corner. There's some real kick in that BMW engine. Further into the lap and Button passes Fisichjella for 7th while Panis takes 9th from Webber

64/65 1 lap into the race and Raikkonen dives down the inside of R Schumacher to take the lead. Villeneuve runs wide and is down to last from 18th. It isn't all bad news though as Button passes Alonso for 6th

63/65 Webber loses another place as Heidfeld passes to take 11th. This isn't what Jaguar were wanting. Fisicehlla is the first retirement as he pulls out of 8th with a blown engine

61/65 R Schumacher now loses 2nd as his brother Michael takes it from him

59/65 Barrichello was starting to make his way through the pack but he's been trying too hard and goes off and is now at the back again. Jarno Trulli passes Coulthard to take 4th

58/65 That doesn't last long though as Coulthard takes 4th back from Trulli. Another Renault going backwards is Alonso's, as he loses out to Panis for 7th. R Schumacher throws it all away as he goes off, losing 3rd and gaining...21st! That results in Panis being slowed down, as Alonso and Heidfeld move by Panis

56/65 Barrichello spins again, this time he's lucky as he tries to correct himself and nearly collects R Schumacher. I'm glad i wasn't in R Schumacher's seat. Barrichello is back at the back again. Heidfeld passes Alonso to take 6th. Barrichello's off again, he really must gather his thought's! And Ralf Schumacher seems worked up from Barrichello as he spins droping him behind Barrichello

55/65 A look at the top 8 after 10 laps

54/65 Panis passes Alonso for 7th before going off wide and droping back to 8th

53/65 Panis is now travelling backwards as his team mate Da Matta passes him for 8th

50/65 Three laps on and Montoya has moved past both Toyota's and into 8th. Pit stops begin. Panis slow pace seems to be because of an electrical problem, he's forced to pit earlier to sort out the problem

46/65 What a shame for Renault and Alonso, as he pulls off the road with a loose wheel. Alonso was on a 1 stop strategy, we don't think he would have challenged Raikkonen, but we expected him to make it up to 2nd after those stops. Yoong is the only driver remaining on a 1 stop strategy

45/65 Pizzonia is also forced to pit early, he has a brake issue. Firman is less fortunate however and can't make it back to the pits with a water leak. That's another double retirement for Jordan

39/65 Montoya continues his charge as he moves past Button and into 6th

37/65 Raikkonen makes a mistake! M Schumacher now leads with Raikkonen in 2nd

35/65 A look at the top 8 after those first stops

34/65 Barrichello has finally sorted himself out and is now in 10th after passing Panis

33/65 Montoya is now into 4th after moving past Trulli

30/65 Barrichello is the other man on the move as he passes Villeneuve for 9th

29/65 Drivers begin their 2nd stops

25/65 Fantastic by Montoya as he dives down the inside of Coulthard and takes a podium position!

16/25 A look at the top 8 after everyone has made their stops. But the standings don't stay like that for long as Barrichello passes Webber to take 8th. Are Jaguar about to squander another chance of points?

8/65 Barrichello has certainly got it together now as he passes Heidfeld for 7th

7/65 Oh no! Montoya's on the radio complaining about transmission problems, that's it, it's over, he pulls out of 3rd. He was surely on for the driver of the day award today! But the Jaguar crew are jumping as Webber moves back into 8th as a result

4/65 Button throws away 5th as he spins and is now 7th

2/65 R Schumacher passes Villeneuve for 9th and is surely hoping that one of the top 8 drop out

0/65 M Schumacher crosses the line to take his 2nd win in success. Great drive from the German

Real unfortunate that spin at the end, but at least Button got another 2 points. Villeneuve was again very disappointing.

again a race with some points. it seems we can not catch the top three teams in 2003 and we changed our goal to be the 4th best team at the end of the season and gain much points and experience as we can.

Quite an interesting race and double podium finishes for us give us a good boost in the constructors.

Coulthard continues with McLaren

After a encouraging start to the 2003 season for McLaren, David Coulthard as announced that he will race again for the team in 2004. The contract that was signed after the Spanish Grand prix, is thought to be around £13.5m. Coulthard's manager had the following to say, "David (Coulthard) is very excited about staying another season here at McLaren. David is still a top driver capable of winning the championship and we will be working hard towards bringing success to McLaren". It is thought that other teams were looking at Coulthard, but no other offers were made for the driver

Sato ready to go

Following BAR manager's words after the previous races, Takumo Sato has declared he is ready to race if he is called upon. The Japanease test/third driver has shown good pace and in friday practice, although Villeneuve seems slightly quicker still. But that doesn't phase the 26 year old who is relishing the oppertunity of a race seat.

Renault closing on Williams?

Williams will be looking over their shoulders after the Spanish Grand Prix rather then looking forwards. The grand prix left them just 4 points ahead of Renault, whose reliability has been a key player in the teams success. Juan Pablo Montoya was on fire in the race after a disapointing qualifying, but was forced to retire from 3rd late on in the race. Williams will be looking to bounce back at Austria for sure.

Button on the move

Jenson Button has signed for Jordan for the 2004 season. The small outfit captured the Brit in a surprise move after offering the Brit £11m to race for them. BAR were also chasing their current driver but were outbidded. Eyes are now on Jordan to see who will partner Button for the 2004 season as they look towards the 2004 season.

Wurz drops price

Alexander Wurz is that desperate for a drive next season, that he has dropped his contract demands by £1m. It is yet to be seen wether the move will attract teams. Most teams seem to be holding out at the moment while they assess their options for 2004

So, we can actually change drivers if we want to?

Statement from Jordan management

"A qualifying session that had promise for a few points again has been ruined with poor reliability. The team needs to work hard to address these issues and ensure that future reoccurences are staved off. On the plus side, we are all glad to have the services of Jenson Button for next season. Although he hasn't got off to the best start this season, he is clearly a star of the future and we hope to provide Jenson with excellent equipment for next season. Hopefully having confirmed one driver will provide the incentives the other two drivers need to continue at Jordan Grand Prix"

BAR statement

"We are very disappointed with the loss of Jenson Button. We understand we offered too less money for him and needed to let him go. We wish him luck for the next season and hope that he can be a nice help for the rest of this season. As for Takuma Sato, who is eagerly waiting to race, we will give him a chance further into the season."

Again, Fisichella really proves his worth as a driver. As for Firman, he's still at the bottom end of the table. I'll give him 2 more races to get up there.

ROUND 6 - AUSTRIAN GP - RACE

The hills are alive with the sound of V10 engines as F1 rolls in to Austria for round 6 of the 2003 F1 season. Montoya picked up pole yesterday, but his team Williams are still looking for a win this season, in what has been a dominant season for McLaren and Ferrari so far. This could be there greatest chance with Ferrari struggling in qualifying. Let's join the drivers down on the grid for the race...

71/71 Coulthard gets a fantastic start and takes the lead from Montoya. Alonso is the man on the move though, first passing Raikkonen and then R Schumacher to take 3rd

69/71 Frentzen runs wide and loses a positon from 10th

68/71 Raikkonen passes R Schumacher to take 4th

67/71 M Schumacher starts to recover from his poor start as he passes Button for 8th. Towards the back and Wilson is trying a move on Bernoldi. Bernoldi takes to the air and can't stop his car from hitting the barrier ending his race

66/71 Alonso is now 2nd after passing Montoya, however his team mate runs wide and is down to 9th from 7th

63/71 R Schumacher runs wide and loses a place from 5th

62/71 M Schumacher then passes his brother to take 6th

61/71 R Schumacher is wide again and is now 9th. Frentzen is moving in the opposite direction as he passes Button for 7th. We take a look at the top 8 after 10 laps

59/71 R Schumacher and Heidfeld are battling it out and they make contact. R Schumacher spins and is now last while Heidfeld continues on in 11th

57/71 Barichello runs wide and is now 10th. Wilson gets it all wrong and crashes out, maybe he was carrying damage from the incident with Bernoldi which caused him to crash

56/71 M Schumacher passes Fisichella for 6th, but ahead of that is Alonso taking the lead!

55/71 Fisichella loses another position as Frentzen passes him. Big crash though as Coulthard goes off at the same place as Wilson did, this looks worse though, the med team are down there and hopefully David will be alright

54/71 Another retirement as Da Matta pulls out of 16th with electrical problems

49/71 Pit stops for Frentzen and Alonso. They are both on 2 stop strategies and that explains their early pace

47/71 A look at the top 8 after those stops, Soon after Barrichello passes Trulli to take 7th

38/71 Alonso is still looking fast as he moves past M Schumacher for 3rd

37/71 It's another poor weekend for R Schumacher as he pulls out of 12th with transmission problems

34/71 Barrichello passes Button to take 6th

33/71 Trulli makes a mistake which drops him down to 9th. Drivers begin their stops including frentzen and alonso's final stops

30/71 Disaster for Williams who are normally so good at pitstops, Raikkonen has beaten the columbian out of the pits

20/71 A look at the top 8 after everyone has completed their pitstops

11/71 Raikkonen makes a small mistake and runs wide, he's lucky not to loose any positions

7/71 Verstappen makes it a double retirement for Minardi as he pulls out of 13th with suspension failure

4/71 Fisichella runs wide and throws 7th away. He's now 8th

0/71 Raikkonen takes the win ahead of Montoya. Another action packed race is finished and we move onto Monaco next where downforce is everything

Coulthard out for Monaco

McLaren were dealt a blow after today's race as the circuit docter announced Coulthard had suffered severe concussion. The injury comes after Coulthard smashed into the Barriers at over 100mph. It is expected that Coulthard will only miss one race but his condition will be assessed before the Canadian GP. McLaren look set to give Wurz the 2nd race seat for Monaco but no confirmation has come from the McLaren camp as of yet. That could give Wurz the chance to shine as he looks for a race seat for next season

Alonso Boosted by performance

Fernando Alonso was pleased with his teams performance at the weekend, after he managed to finish ahead of both the Ferrari's of M Schumacher and Barrichello. The spaniard was exstatic at being on the podium and said the weekend was an important one. "It's important that we keep the pressure on Williams and we managed to do that with getting both our cars in the points". Alonso has struggled with luck this season and it is thought he could have challenged for the win if he hadn't of encountered bad traffic

Managers going AWOL?

Certain managers are being watched after it seems their activity in their teams have droped. Managers are reminded that if they go away for a certain amount of time then they should let the FIA know or make an announcement. Failure to do this and lack of interest will result in managers being sacked and new managers instated.
