Welcome to Italy where San Marino hosts the first grand prix of the season in europe at the fantastic Imola track. Raikkonen leads the drivers championship coming into the race, while his team lead the constructors championship, but only because they have won one more race then Ferrari as the teams are joint on points and a full 20 points ahead of closest rivals Williams. Let's see how theams got on in friday practice

Villeneuve had limited testing in the BAR as he struggled with engine problems. That's worrying from Honda after BAR, Jordan and Jaguar all declared their interest in the engine supplier for next season

Fisichella performing well again...Firman needs to pick up a bit though. I'll assess his performances mid-season.

As for the Honda engines, I'll see if more failures are prevalent. Problem is the lack of good indie engines. We'll see.

SAN MARINO GRAND PRIX - RACE

Welcome to Italy for round 4 of the 2003 F1 season. Yesterday saw Ferrari looking mighty in qualifying as they locked out the front row with M Schumacher on pole. And the rain god must be rubbing his hands together as the heavens opened up this morning, drenching the track in water. Forecasts suggest the entire race could be wet, but anything can happen in F1. Lets get down to the grid for the start of the race

62/62 M Schumacher sits on pole as the lights come on. And as the lights go out, M Schumacher keeps the lead, his team mate however losses out to Coulthard. Further down the grid and Pizzonia runs into the back of Heidfeld sending the German off, he takes to the air and destroys his front wing. Heidfeld will have to pit from 16th

60/62 Bernoldi is the first retirement of the day as he retires with an engine problem in 19th. Firman makes a mistake and goes off sending him from 15th down to 20th

58/62 Webber passes Panis for 12th and is soon followed by Villeneuve

57/62 Young tries to pass Wilson for 17th but spins as Wilson runs wide. Wilson is now 18th and Yoong 19th

56/62 Fisichella runs wide losing him a position from 8th

54/62 More bad news for Jordan as Firman retires from 20th with a puncture

53/62 Frentzen makes a mistake and slides off the track, Button seems to slow down too much for the incident and lets Villeneuve and Webber past

52/62 Yoong is forced to pit as he has problems with a loose wheel. Villeneuve tries to pass Webber but spins, Webber takes to the gravel. Webber moves from 11th to 17th while Villeneuve is still behind him

51/62 Verstappen passes Pizzonia for 13th as we look at the top 8 after just over 10 laps

48/62 Wilson is the next retirement of the day as he pulls out of 16th also with a puncture. Drama going on down at the first few corners as Panis runs off wide while at the following corner Verstappen runs off wide. Panis losses one position as is now 13th while Verstappen is 15th

47/62 Verstappen is off again, he's now 17th. Further up the pack and Coulthard spins off, he was 2nd but is now 5th

45/62 The pitstops begin for the drivers. Barrichello makes a mistake on the final corner and spins off. That's going to cost him 2nd for sure

44/62 Frentzen makes a mistake, he was 8th and is now 14th

42/62 This weather is proving very tricky as the same corner sees Montoya in 3rd, Alonso 4th and Barrichello 6th all go off!! Maybe there is some oil down there. Barrichello and Montoya both lose a poisiton. However Alonso seems to have beached it and will have to call it a day. Later in the lap and Coulthard is off again dropping him from 3rd down to 9th

41/62 Barrichello is off for a third time as he moves down to 9th

40/62 A look at the top 8 after those pitstops

37/62 Panis makes a mistake and spins as Pizzonia is forced into the pits with brake problems. They seem to have sorted it out but he's now 13th instead of 10th

31/62 It's a double retirement for Jordan as Fisichella retires from 5th with suspension problems

29/62 Stops begin for the 2nd time

25/62 Button spins as we catch him rejoining the track, he's now 8th

23/62 Another look at the top 8 after everyone has made their 2nd stop

19/62 Webber pulls out of 11th with a loose wheel

14/62 Coulthard goes off in 6th. It seems he can't get out of the gravel and will have to retire. Heidfeld is now 8th

4/62 Montoya watches R Schumacher go wide into a corner, he sees his chance and snatches 4th from his team mate

0/62 M Schumacher proves he can drive supurbly in the rain as he brings his Ferrari home infront of a home crowd to take the win!

ARROWS PRESS STATEMENT

"To be still in 5th position in the championship after 4 rounds is quite an acheivment for this financially struggling team.
We understand that our results need to be better but to be leading the race of "Best Of The Rest" at the moment is quite a good feeling.
We have just signed a deal with Ford for next season so hopfully this will solve our recurring engine problems. We know
the road ahead is a bumpy one but with a few more good points scoring rounds we are confident that we can secure 5th in this championship."

Yes! Finally our first points, didn't hear of a mistake of Villeneuve all race, what is he been doing? He will need to get on, because I'm not at all happy with his driving.

ROUND 5 - SPANISH GRAND PRIX - FRIDAY PRACTICE

Welcome to sunny Spain for round 5 of the 2003 F1 championship. Raikkonen leads the drivers championship but his team, Mclaren, trail Ferrari in the constructors. Last round saw the first points for BAR this season, leaving only Jaguar to score. All eyes will be on them this race as the pressure mounts. Thousands have flocked to see this weekends Grand Prix and cheer on local hero Fernando Alonso. So lets see how friday practice and qualifying went

Despite troubles for Salo, Arrows still managed to impress in practice

Full run down of times in Friday Practice

Setup Reward

1. Arrows +0.043
2. Minardi -0.178
3. Williams -0.207
4. Ferrari -0.226
5. Renault -0.338
6. McLaren -0.360

Qualifying

Could those teams carry on their good form into qualifying? McLaren looked on top as they managed to shut out all competitors and lock out the front row. Montoya struggled with traffic but the big shock was Barrichello qualifying dead last after making a mistake off camera

Raikkonen taking pole by a small margin, which was made even smaller by team mate Coulthard

A look at the qualifying times
