RBR always seem to have mechanical problems with every car, more so than most.

More accurately, Adrian Newey always seems to have mechanical problems with his cars. He does refuse to compromise when it comes to packaging and always has, so everything is always as he wants it, and if unexpected issues come up, the team have to work their way around them.

Yep, very true. The McLaren MP4/14 was a prime example.

Nah the FW28 wasn't very good at all, if anything the cossie was one of it's strength. It helped Rosberg rescue his debit race with several overtaking moves at Bahrain, the fact that Nico was so quick in that race had much to do with a lucky break with the tyres. But apart from Bahrain, Malaysia and Monaco the Williams FW28 wasn't very quick anywhere and extremely unreliable.

The failures from the outside looked like engine failures, but it emerged that the engines themselves didn't fail, but were broken by the car. Williams didn't dump cossie because of the engine, but because Toyota offered them that semi works deal, which was significantly cheaper than paying for the cossie.

Hulkenberg has already reported that the revised cossie (to current v8 regs) is significant step up from the Toyota, which was along with the Reanult one of the most underpowered v8's of the past couple of seasons since the engine freeze.

but it wasn't quick because of the engine, wasn't it?, i mean the f2005 was one of the bet cars... sometime we can't really measured them by results, we know tyres cost ferrari a lot, but the car itself was a masterpiece... i know the fw28 wasn't a masterpiece, but i think in terms of quality it was one of the best cars out there

If it was one of the best cars then it would have been on the podium every other race and picked up a win or 2. Yet when it held together it as really quite mediocre.

Well apparently Kazuki is already signed up. Jacques sounds like he'd certainly jump in given the first opportunity.

I'd love to see JV back, and if Stefan GP have these Toyota cars there's every chance they could just turn up and be the quicker than or at least close to the other new teams. Interesting to see how this pans out.

What engines would Stefan GP use? Toyota or Cossie's? Don't think I've read what engines they'd use anywhere.

Edit - I might be having a blonde moment and the answer is that they'd use Toyota engines, but that's quite a big commitment by Toyota and one I'm sure they'd rather not make.

Toyota engine and gear box but re badged to their own. Tbh it would need no really expenditure from Toyota as both would be the same as last years probably.

Saturday... and they're beginning to chase laptimes.

Button and Kubica are trading fastest laps. Button has just put in the fastest lap of the test so far with 1:18.871.

Glock managed a 1:22.856 in the Virgin which is pretty much the quickest lap we've seen from that car, just under 4 seconds slower than Button's qualifier.

Trulli did a 1:24.686 and brings up the rear.

Unfortunately not everyone.

"On the eighth and last day of testing for the Scuderia Ferrari
Marlboro Fernando Alonso goes onto the track in the
single-seater. The Spanish driver’s programme includes
proceeding with comparing the F10’s different set ups and a
further analysis of the tyres’ behaviour on the long run."

They're obviously fairly confidence that the car has pace then.

Update on Lotus, Trulli seems to be concentrating on getting comfortable in the car. Understandable since it's hist time in that car. So far he's had the heel support changed, and now he's having the brakes changed as he is unhappy with the "bite".

Cheers for that.

Yet another breakdown for Webber today, no idea what went wrong though. Suppose the problems are all creeping through due to the opening test last week being mainly in the rain. Weren't pushing the car as hard as they are now.

Webber has had a precautionary engine change.
