And why should Ferrari do that? They traditionally never "fake" test results...

I think we will never know the real pace of the cars. When qualy starts at Bahrain we are going to know everything.

Really, really can't wait for this season! Looks like we could have a really close field, and the cars are looking the best they've looked for years too - the liveries are gorgeous.
Also - am I the only one who's not surprised by MS's pace so far? I thought he'd still have it in him. And, early days still of course, but it looks like the Merc should be competitive enough to allow its drivers to challenge for podiums at least.
Looks like the 2010 season is promising to be an epic one already... As long as no one driver dominates like JB did in the first half of last year, then I don't care who wins it TBH.

I am a bit surprised about MSs pace, but I was also very skeptical about his return. I've clearly been proven wrong though!

I expected the pase of Schumacher, he has always been a fantastic driver, which he shows again today. The only thing that surprised me is that he was quicker than Rosberg. But I think it is way to soon to make conclusions :).

Merc had the entire lunchbreak to completely revamp the car if needs be, trying out different things, different fuel loads, different everything, and remember that Rosberg couldn't see out of the thing this morning.

So many variables in testing that it's even hard to say that the Ferrari is genuinely quick... the only thing for certain is that the cars generally seem reliable (other than the STR so far).

I also think that if it was Michael the one starting the tests the final results would have been different, swaped between MS and Rosberg so I agree, a lot of variables...

Really depends what you read really, Paffet seems to think Massa and MS went for times at the end of the test to show they were back.

Mclaren are having problems with the front tyres but think they can get on top of it, Mclaren did not go for times so to only be 1 sec off people who were is not to bad.

The only time you will be able to compare MS and Nico is when they are on the track at the same.

Plus Nico was on track in the morning and MS the afternoon when they said the track conditions were better, plus Nico carried out the systems checks in the car.

I always thought MS would be on the pace so I am not shocked, will his racing skills be top notch time will tell.

This track does not test areo so until they go to a track that does we wont know who is on the pace anyway.

found this picture on google obviously from f1today.nl. maybe it shows that mclaren are having problems with aero. also wish schumi would go back to his old white and blue lid.

They did run flow-viz today but as mentioned before, its simply anohter form of validation. Nothing to get worried about.

[f1csatorna.hu]

I understand the need to use it on say straight-line testing but always thought to collect the results on track would be alot more difficult.

Looks like McLaren are having trouble with a hooligan brandishing green spray-paint, let alone their aero. ;)

It seems McLaren are running a pretty radical rear end this year. Like Chet said, it'll just be validation to compare the computer simulations.

I love this part of the season! The excitment is building nicely! :)

Theres 15 days of Testing. Paffet has 1 and Lewis and Jenson have 7 each, so they're given equal time (until it rains etc...)

Not a complete fake, just possibly more inclined to disprove any of these rumours. I'm sure Massa would like to remove any final doubt about his recovery as well.

Speaking of Ferrari's supposed aerodynamic problems, James Allen has written an interesting paragraph about a possible reason for the changes
"There have been rumours about the aero figures being poor and a B spec car being prepared. But my sources suggest that what has happened is that they recruited a new head of aerodynamics from Toyota in December and he brought a solution for a radical new diffuser with a hole the size of a sheet of A3 paper! It’s worth a lot in extra downforce and so Ferrari may well be building an update package around it, possibly for the first race if they can build it in time."

After just 7 laps (presumably mainly installation laps), Massa, Hamilton & Kubica are faster than their cars were at any point yesterday. That shows how little you can read into the times!
