It would be utterly ridiculous, so expect it to happen next week.

I think fernando alonso's aura, put hex on mclaren 2009 car haHah,and looks like hamilton is on position where last year alonso is at struggle, but he'd make it through the end...so im expecting whether the golden boy is worth to drive in mclaren, for the next 4 years.

Is it just the four teams testing this week or are others testing elsewhere?

Not sure what to make of Brawn's pace, although what is odd is that they've had no reliability problems at all, as far as I'm aware.

The new regs have certainly spiced things up, let's hope Melbourne lives up to the hype.

today's times so far

1. R. Barrichello Brawn GP BGP 001 1:18.398 62 laps
2. J. Button Brawn GP BGP 001 1:18.892 +0.494 15 laps
3. F. Alonso Renault R29 1:19.334 +0.936 57 laps
4. L. Hamilton McLaren MP4-24 1:19.513 +1.115 56 laps
5. N. Rosberg Williams FW31 1:19.783 +1.385 81 laps

looking good for Barrichello! Also some solid times for Alonso, but not much apparent improvement from Hamilton...

That actually looks like half a milk crate.

Looks like Alonso really did bring that 9 tenths to McLaren.

And it's actually a 'monitoring device' [f1.gpupdate.net]

Yep i agree, sure hope that renault will be fighting for wins more often this season!
Also about the mclaren situation, dont forget that Barcelona is the better track for overall aero efficiency, so although they may have seemed to have improved here(closer to rivals), could be a different story at some tracks during the season.

Alonso's time is interesting. Does anyone know if it was a one lap special or part of a stint? I'm assuming it was a part of a quali sim.

At least it suggests that Brawn's pace is genuine, because I fail to see what Renault would have to gain out of a glory run.

Definitely an outside contender at least, I'd imagine. We all know how good he is at outperforming a car - and the 2009 Renault is surely gonna be better out of the box than the 2008 one was(wouldn't be difficult;)!). If he's managing the kind of results even 1/3 of the way into the season that he pulled off at the end of 2008, he'll have a good chance of taking the championship. Whoever has the best car early on it's unlikely they'll have a big advantage.

I think that time by Alonso shows that Brawn's pace is actually genuinne.

But if it depends on if they are using KERS. In other news, JB had a gearbox failure.

Barrichello's lap was done in a 7 lap stint (on lap 3). Alonso's lap was in a 2 lap run.

While the McLaren's pace is still up in the air a bit, Hamilton was at least consistent - the majority of the laps in a 21 lap stint were within a tenth or 3 of each other - matching Alonso's pace on the runs. Rosberg was a good half a second slower than Hamilton in his stints. It looks a lot rosier for McLaren. Still, Rubens was half a 4 or 5 tenths quicker than Hamilton over a stint too, so it's not all good.

According to Theissen, BMW haven't got a clue whether they're running KERS at Melbourne or not. They're happy with the reliability, but haven't made a decision over which is the faster option.

Posssibly won't in Melbourne... I reckon the circuit won't suit KERS, not many straights and a lot of slow corners, a lighter car without KERS could well be quicker...Malaysia seems a better option

That's flow testing - they put coloured oils on the car to see which way they go. Gloriously low tech :)

...and a bit worrying that they are still doing it.

Button's broken the 2009 record at Jerez with a 17.8... Rosberg on a 18.0! Hamilton on a 19.1 and Piquet 18.7 - all with similar lap numbers, but I've not checked how long the stints were.
