You know what worries me more about that crash is the car hardly slowed down, if there was gravel there he probably would have flipped but soon someone is gonna hit that wall head on. I think its the same place kovy lost it in testing for renault.

I think the frontal impact tests are stricter than the side impact tests so it is actually preferable to hit that wall head on*

*at same speed

Lewis got told off for going str8 back to the pits and not the medical center, as soon as he and the team found out he went str8 there. The marshall took him str8 to the pits.

He is not going to be punished for this, but the crash was over the G limit where they need to get check over. Its all been put down to confusion as he was able to walk away and got a lift back.

And how's that gonna happen? Head on for enough speed to cause major damage? I don't think so...

I'm sure Tilke was not expecting a car to have a side impact at that particular point but you simply can't predict where a car will go once it is out of control. To be fair however, drivers have been complaining about the fact that Bahrain has stupidly large run-offs which make it like 'driving round cones at an airport', I suppose this proves however 'safe' a circuit you're always gonna have collisions.

Looking forward to seeing the cars go round at speed now, Ferrari as always look dominant but you can never tell for shaw, hoping to see DC do well here as he's had some good pace in the past like Massa and Rosberg.

If I was going to crash and was able to choose how to hit the wall, it wouldn't head on that got my nod, so to speak. Stricter measures doesn't mean it's safer.

Well it would wouldn't it? That's physics at the most basic of levels.

you do now that frontal impact tests are carried out at 14-18m/s dont you? and teh reason for this is because a driver is unlikely to survive/remain uninjured at higher speeds no matter what protection

it will always be more preferable to have an impact with a wall side on, purely because theres a bigger surface area to abosrb teh impact, again, simple physics...

I think its a shame that Sato and Davidson are having to run like this, its going to kill Davidsons f1 chances really. I dont see how they are going to turn things around there.

Well, I think their careers are over myself. Never gonna get a drive outside of SA (unless Barrichello retires and Sato gets the Japanese nod)

Oh yes, like Melbourne Lewis and Heikki, 12th and 20th in the 3rd free practice, and then in qualyfing... Those results is nothing, we will see after Qualy. :)

ok :) i agree with you mclaren should have no problems but they are about half a second a lap slower than ferrari. speedtv were commentating that ferrari look after their rear tyres better than anyone. i dont know why websites make all sorts of conclusions after p3 when ppl obviously are doing different things.

I think the issue Mclaren have had all through practice (inc yesterday) is tht they lose a lot of time when they fit the soft tyres while everyone else seems to go quicker.
Thats what James allen reported yesterday. And he usually is quite good at spotting whats going on in friday practices.

Seeing that lewis and kovy set their times in fp2 on soft tyres and lewis was on them until he crashed says they are ok. Teams now use fp3 to check their engines and gear boxes not much else. Lewis was 13th or something in Australia and got pole. As normal James Allen is probably wrong.

Lots of teams had that problem yesterday they found it hard to better their times on them, the only team that was ok were ferrari, but they are then meant to have problems with the harder ones so who knows.
