James said that Nick might have waved to acknowledge it was a yellow flag zone, in the same way Hakkinen used to without actually slowing down! (Murray also has talked about Mika doing this in the past)

Hell, no! Button said that he didnt even locked the brakes, and that corner was like a lake of water, he had nothing to do but was just a passenger in that car. Other six cars (Raikkonen Included) went off there.

At this point Jenson was 4th, with a 1 stopper strategy since the start of the race.

Jenson needs to learn what locked brakes are then, because they were very clearly locked up. He braked on the painted line, locked his left hand side wheels up which then dragged him off into the gravel. How else did you think he ended up going off the track in such a fashion? If he didn't lock the brakes he'd have done what Hamilton did.

EDIT//

Button said: "I didn't get a good start and I dropped to 20th position, however I had a really good first lap and I was up to sixth position when I pitted for wet tyres. After that the rain poured down and turn one was a lake. By that time I was in fourth position behind Massa and Alonso.

"I just touched the brakes and all four wheels locked, then I hit the wall. It's a real shame because I had a lot of fuel on board, a good strategy given the way the race then panned out for the others and I love to drive in these wet conditions. This race was unfortunately a lottery and sadly I lost out."

Quoted from: [f1.gpupdate.net]

I do often wander whether half the things you claim drivers say is true, especially when you can find quotes saying quite the opposite.

Exciting race and a great drive from Alonso. Poor call from Hamilton but he'll learn from it. Glad to see Ralf get some of his own medicine back and he didn't like it one bit ;)

He says that he touched it slightly, not that he applied full pressure to lock them, he wouldnt be so dumb.

Bah, Button screwed up mate. I'm not saying he was completely at fault, but others did manage to make the corner just fine.

If button deliberatly drove into someone, then admitted it, Senna here would say "button did nothing wrong, it was other drivers fault" he is delirious with love ;)

That was not a theory...I was just pointing out a curious circumstance that happened...

;-)

While we're on the subject of the deluge, I just thought I'd give a massive thumbs-up to Massa - to get his car that sideways, twice, when almost everyone else went off, yet to keep going... just astonishing. That couldn't have been far from full lock at one point. The rest of his wet-weather driving may suck, but that took my breath away.

If mods want to delete the below to save being Bernied, feel free.

And now for something a little bit special. For me anyway. As most know Murray commentated on the GP for 5Live this weekend. Well I recorded both ITV and 5Live, and here is the result - Murray overlayed over the top of the ITV stream. When 5Live cut to the golf (they did so 3 or 4 times for a few minutes each) you get the usual James Allen and Martin Brundle. Other than that, it's Murray Walker and Maurice Hamilton in the box, and Holly Samos in the pits.

The audio sync does slip a little as the race goes on (looking at Massa's last dry stop, it's out by around 2 seconds), but I really can't be arsed to sync it all up all the way through. I've not watched it all, so you may get Murray and Allen fighting for the mic at some point, but it should all be good. :)

I'm sure it has been said but...why is Hamilton allowed to continue after being helped by a crane?

Because he was deemed to be in a dangerous position. On the one hand it's a bit harsh to the others who'd cut or stalled their engine, but on the other, it's hard to argue he wasn't in a dangerous position, given that cars were flying off the track no matter how slow they went.

The back ok a bmw did hit the rear tyre of Lewis car and thats what caused the flat tyre. There was also some damamge caused by it.

The next gp should suit mclaren even the car of last year went well there.

After looking at the points table last night I think it really is bewteen the 2 mclaren drivers now both of them can fail to win a race and still be ahead of the ferrari drivers.

Duh, Raikkonen missed the pits and was on slick tyres, Button was on intermediates.

Sorry to shatter your illusion, but this pic clearly shows Kimi having intermediates:

Meh, nvm, from basically right at the back after a poor start and 1st corner he went up upto 4th, impressive and i would very much like an onboard of it.

but as i say this, we should not forget dc ;-) who made an equaly good start.

But, according to you "he didnt even locked the brakes." ;-)

All I was doing is correcting what you claimed to be a quote from Button's mouth with what he actually said. It's quite sad you're actually having to lie to defend your `hero` now he is being firmly shown the way by Rubens ;-).

At the end of the day it was difficult conditions to handle, but he made a very silly mistake braking on the white line. Something he has known not to do since at least the age of 8.

As Gav said he was in a very dangerous place but also, why add more work of returning cars to the pits if you can avoid it. At the end it is to the discretion of race control what happens and they obviously gave the marshals permission to return the car to the circuit.

It was amazing to see Coulthard first going (punted?) off and being 18th at the end of lap 1 and then somehow ending up in 5th at the end of lap 3.

Although to be fair he was about 9.5 seconds behind Webber entering the pits so he didn't lose a lot of time queuing up.

A compilation of various onboard footage from lap 1 would make for some interesting viewing.

The deluge at T1 reminded me of the Silverstone race in 1975.

Well.. Atleast Jean Todt said that Kimi did last-second mind change and didnt come to change tires like team wanted him to do. So all what he did was really dangerous (and propably heavily against rules) with cutting from pit to track like that.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?
