He did said it but it was just Piquets usual bullshit to hide his lack of speed when he was behind Senna or in a bad mood. Piquet shouldnt have opened his mouth to say this kind of @#$%& when Senna had many girlfriends like Xuxa Meneghel, Christine Ferraciu and Adriane Galisteu... ...and Piquet's wife as well ;)

Straight after.

Some people mention this "incident" as one of the reasons why Caldwell was sacked the same year (guess Ecclestone had some dignity afterall).

Haha, I read a magazine report from one Sennas many girls lol, that read something like if he was gay, then she would love more gay men in her bed ;)

But yeah, Piquet seemed to treat Senna bad.

Piquet slagged off a lot of people, famously Nigel Mansell's wife who he described as ugly (not inacurate tbh).
He also pissed off most of Italy by saying that Enzo Ferrari should have handed over power of Ferrari to someone else as he was too old, blaming the Scuderia's lack of success in the mid to late '80s for that reason.

Here's a classic press conference from Estoril '92, Senna in top form as usual.

Just don't get press conferences like that any more. It's all too contrived. Too prepared. Too scared to speak out. This always makes me smile (though the subject didn't).

is that tony Jardine with the questions?

It sounds like a familiar voice.

Thanks gav for the download, gives me shivers to hear a new GOGOGO!.

Ahhh Piquet....they don't make 'em like him anymore. Impish personality and a hell of a driver to boot...

As a serial practical joker he, at one drivers meeting in particular, was standing next to Jean Marie Balstre who was giving one of his long drawn out speeches and Piquet(known to fall asleep during them) was standing next to him slyly dropped a bottle of water that slowly poured it into Balestre's jacket pocket. Balestre only stopped talking when he noticed that everyone was rofling!

One of his most devious pranks that i remember hearing about was during one GP weekend when Nigel Mansell had the runs and Piquet knowing this hid all the toilet paper before Noige had to go.

No problem. :)

He forced the "go go go!" bit, but I'll forgive him that. Just good to hear him again, still sounding so well.

According to the sporting regulations Lewis should not have been allowed to rejoin the race:

Chapter III paragraph 6.1 of appendix H of Int Sporting code

If a car stops

If a car stops on the course, or leaves the track, the first duty of the course marshals in that sector is to take it to a place of safety.

No driver has the right to refuse to allow his car to be taken off the track, he must do everything he can to help and obey the
marshals’ instructions. Once the car is in a place of safety the
driver may, if the specific regulations of the event permit, workon it in order to re-start. In such cases other means, such as breakdown vehicles, cranes, etc. should not be brought into action until the driver has made it clear that he will not continue. It is desirable that the driver stays near his vehicle until the end of the race or at least informs the post chief how his car may be lifted, or towed back to the pits.

Also:

Chapter IV paragraph 3 appendix L of Int Sporting Code

Stopping of a car during the race

a) the driver of any car leaving the race shall signal this intention in good time and is responsible for ensuring that the manoeuvre is carried out safely and as near as possible to the point of exit.

b) should a driver be compelled to stop his/her car, either involuntarily or for any other reason, the car shall be moved
off the track as soon as possible so that its presence does not
constitute a danger or prevent the normal running of the race.
If the driver is not able to move the car out of the potentially
dangerous position, it is the duty of the marshals or other officials to help.

In that case, if the driver succeeds in re-starting the car without any external help, and rejoins the race without committing any breach of the regulations and without gaining any advantage from the preceding movement of the car to a safer position, he/she will not be excluded from the race.

Guess the marshalls and the race stewards decided it was ok but the FIA turned a blind eye to their own regulations, Lewis technically should have been black flagged. If Lewis had scored points and the FIA allowed him to keep them it would be nuts.

If I am right but might be wrong Lewis stayed in the car and kept his engine running therefore he was still in the race when it was red flagged.

As it was red flagged they can put the car back on the track.

A car can also be moved from a dangeroud position, they would have had to crain the car away any so why not just put him back on the track.

MS was allowed to keep his points at the same track a few years back after getting a push out the gravel as he kept it running and was in a dangerous place.

Its this bit here

"b) should a driver be compelled to stop his/her car, either involuntarily or for any other reason, the car shall be moved
off the track as soon as possible so that its presence does not
constitute a danger or prevent the normal running of the race.
If the driver is not able to move the car out of the potentially

I did think he would be black flagged though, but as I said before due to the red flag he was ok.

Schumacher had his car half on the track when he was given a push iirc, Lewis was right up against the barriers.

"Once the car is in a place of safety the driver may, if the specific regulations of the event permit, workon it in order to re-start. In such cases other means, such as breakdown vehicles, cranes, etc. should not be brought into action until the driver has made it clear that he will not continue. It is desirable that the driver stays near his vehicle until the end of the race or at least informs the post chief how his car may be lifted, or towed back to the pits."

Lewis was off the track which constitutes a "safe place". By being lifted by a crane he effectively broke the rules by continuing to race.

There was no red at that point though, was there? Just a safety car?
