Now that's some proper driving! Oh how I wish they would rip off all electronic aids out of todays F1 cars.

You were like 3 years old then when you saw that Chet :P

Moncao '96 was one of Schumachers best quali sessions i've ever seen, totally commited. You can see how much the cars slid around back then when on the limit, the toys and sheer downforce take that spectacle away these days.

I'm sure just the loss of traction control could make a big difference to the spectacle...

i agree 100% with chet, my heart only beats fast when i watch a race for about 30seconds,and thats the start, but this qualirying was intense, shumacher was on the edge, you never see fernando or kimi hustle the car the like that, but i guess its down to the rails.

even if they ban traction control, the teams can still do crazy things with engine mapping, you could see the effect before tc was made legal, cars never slid around like they did in 96', but im just thinking from 98' onwards when, cant remember ccars sliding too much, and you have to return to slicks aswell, the grooves prevent sliding.

Oh, C'mon. It was great yes, but we still have qualifying like that, or did you forget this year's Silverstone, for instance?

Alonso was seriously hustling in France from what i saw but yes the cars are so different now to ten years ago you will never see that kind of teetering on the edge type driving now. Still if you saw racing in the '70s and '80s the cars were even more fun to watch.

u can not compair 1996 to now. U can not drive a 2006 car like that as it simply wont let u.

In france we saw alonso slide the car a few times.

although there was still a lot of downforce back then, the gap between mechanical and aero grip wasn't as huge as it is nowadays, so you could slide around on the slicks a bit. now it's just completely overwhelmed by aero grip you're either perfectly on rails, or in the wall.

And how do you know I am a Schumacher fan? What I am trying to defend against is the fact that most threads on this forum are hi-jacked into anti-MS threads.

I can post several examples as proof if you wanted.

"no overtaking, boring racing, why can't we bring back the 90's?"

That Montoya to Nascar thread did a very good job of it last week, just because Schumacher has a different opinion than others of the sport. :P

ok yeah forgot about that one lol i dont think it was so much of an anti ms thread more like alot of people did not agree with what ms said which is fair as he said what he thought and people said what they thought.

I think that happened more in the past than now, especially when Schumi was winning all the time. As marc pointed out some people (me included) did not agree with what Michael was saying about Montotya's move to Nascar but others do have a hate complex about him which i'm totally against.

1996 Ferrari was at worsr, 3rd or 4th best car. It broke down alot, and was MILES off the pace of the Williams, but to suggest it was "crap" is rubbish. A minardi is "crap" a tyrell is "crap". A Forti is "crap". The 3rd best car, a Ferrari is not crap.
