It's amuzing how Montoya called the NC car a truck 3 years ago and generally appeared disinterested in the switch.

Pinnacle... Who said anything about anyone in this thread saying that? It is at the very core of Formula one's perception of it's own identity and role in motorsports.

What a moron you are... JPM was interviewed about it on camera, and it is very easy to find on various places on the net. He never said anything like that, quite the opposite, he talked with a big grin about how much fun it was.

No, it's a genuine impression i got. But thanks for correcting me anyway.

And having fun?

Well a cynic in me says he took the easy road, but i'll have to see how next 16 months go.

it's just Dave's reply, it looked like a direct response to an earlier message where someone might have said "JPM has left the pinnacle of motorsport", but i didn't see a message like that so i asked.

don't shoot me :)

The cynic in you didnt read ANYTHING that was posted either ;-) He was unhappy in Europe and wanted to go back to America. The racing in question has nothing to do with it. He clearly wants to go drive and have fun. Its about the winning (or he wouldnt be in a Ganassi NASCAR) and its not about the money. Its about enjoying life.

Cynical? Looks more like people are trying to play down what was a gutsy decsion.

Uhm... did you bother to read the thread, or are you getting "impressions" from the same strange place as TripleM?

no tbh i just read what was on fl-live and on there it said it was a 1 year deal.

People keep saying he got an offer from williams but all williams have been saying for the past month is they want to keep both their current drivers. Am sure if williams had offered him a drive he would have taken it just to prove people wrong about him

And some stories say they called him and others say he called them.

Whats the money like in Nascar?

And ermm I still reckon the only reason he will not be in F1 is because he wont win.

Whereas in Nascar I believe he is in a top team?

I'll miss him :P

Watched that Vid a few days ago... Gordan should replace him in F1 :P

Whats the money like in Nascar?

You earn money for winning.

And ermm I still reckon the only reason he will not be in F1 is because he wont win.

JPMs close people said he wants to go home to America. JPM said he likes the cars

Whereas in Nascar I believe he is in a top team?

No, he wont be Not by a long shot. Ganassi is not a top Nextel Cup team in the slightest.

Juan Pablo Montoya says he's been thinking about making the switch from F1 to NASCAR for quite some time, when the news was made official on Sunday afternoon. The Colombian will take up NASCAR duties with Chip Ganassi's team as of next year.

"I am so happy to be entering the fastest growing racing league in the world," said Montoya. "I've thought about this for quite some time but the opportunity had to be right. I've known and worked with Chip for a number of years and this situation could not be better for me. I have a lot of confidence in my ability as a race car driver and in Chip and Felix as owners. I know the transition will not be easy but I can't wait to get behind the wheel."

Montoya will pilot the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger while running for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year title along with an assortment of NASCAR Busch Series races.

I go for it :)

Good points:
2001 season, very nice
2002 season, poles, no race win while teamate won once.
2003 good car in mid season, he did what he had to.
2004 Brazil race, great.
2005 Brazil race, once again.

Bad points:
2001 Brazil, first of his moves, well let's say he did not know that cars lose downforce if the one in front is really close, so you have to lap a car carefully.

2002 Malaysia, Brazil running into MS without sense at the start of the race, taking people out of the race in other rounds, example Coulthard (you know they love each other).

2003 proving that he would not become champion even whit a good car when he loses everything in Indy.

2004 did he race? oh yes, no big bad points? well I do not remember, please help :)

2005 OMG
- Hurts himself in a non F1 activity (tennis), De la Rosa and Wurz got more points tham him.
- Spain, one lap down to teamate...let's say he was "recovering". points lost? 3 maybe
- Monaco, unable to pass Alonso for 4th while both Williams did, teamate winning by a big gap. (1 point lost)
- Germany, losing P2 in qualy so 2 points lost.
- Turkey, again he forgot the 2001 lesson 2 points lost.
- Spa, again forgot "lappig" lesson, 8 points lost
- Japan, losing everything in first lap (when a race has many more laps), teamate win starting from 17h, 6 points lost.
- China, going off track alone (no one else had that problem) and losing 5 points.

How many points between Renault and McLaren in the 2005 championship table? judge yourself.

That is why I think he is not a big lose.

Thanks GP3Hotlaps

I think I speak for every F1 fan with a bit of sense by saying that is possinly the most load of rubbish ever spoken.

So what if you dont win? You get no money? Or just get more for winning lol?

And tbh... people close to JPM? Id rather wait for what he says :P Obviously for the ones who cant understand Nascar, they find it hard to accept JPM leaving because he wants to 'have fun' and not because he has not been offered a top line F1 drive. Perhaps if I liked and understood Nascar then it would be different but what can you do ;) All i know is that they sound better than F1 cars :P Id certainly have one of them behind me rather than a squeeling V8 running 20,000 revs lol. Incidently both series run V8s dont they?

Ah... i just guessed they were good, because ive heard of them... so I figured.. must be popular, therefore good ;)

Brazil 2001? Haha... bad?! So its JPMs fault Jos not the boss rammed into him? And at the speed the cars were I dont think downforce exists ;)!

Chet i think you should watch the incident again, yes it wasnt JPMs fault, but the cars get sucked to each other at deceleration.
