Apparently after the patch primes are showing as options (green stripe) and vice versa lol

Sounds about right for a Codemasters Patch lol!

I am sooo happy I never even bothered with this.

That has been my main gripe with all the modern F1 mods that have appeared for almost any platform. An F1 car (and indeed most racing cars) are not hard to drive at all. The difficulty of driving the car should be proportional to how close you are to the limit. It is a racing car, not a suicide machine. Nobody will drive a car fast, if it is difficult from the get go, because they will never get to a point, where they trust the machinery with their life.

I am glad that someone finally got that right, even if I don't approve of them in other respects. I might even, heaven forbid, welcome future gripes against RF2 mods, that go along that line: "Handling should be more like it is in iRacing! Easy when slow, hard on the limit!!"

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

Hey, that's what stopped GPL being a run-away worldwide success! ;)

Well you'll be even happier (or at least find it funnier) with this news.

The patch has introduced more problems

Prime and Option tyres the wrong way around.
It now rains in the Monaco tunnel.
Slow AI has not been fixed.
Rubber banding AI has not been fixed.
Pit Stop Bugs have not been fixed.

And to add to that there's apparently seriously issues with force feedback not working after the patch ;)

just did a quick test online.

no problems with the tyres for me - it appears wrong in the garage but fine on track.

the split times are awful now. it just gives you a total race time at every sector, so you have to sort of remember what it was last sector to know if you are gaining or losing time.

What the hell? How hard is it to just put the gaps up on screen? :-(

Oddly, I actually found it harder to drive cars *slow* in GPL. Don't get me wrong - they were beasts to drive fast, but I found it impossible to drive them at like 65%.

So, has the patch fixed anything at all?

The AI is way too easy now that I know all the tracks. With Ferrari on career, my first 2 races I won by 61 and 47 seconds respectively, and that's just 40% races. This is on the hardest AI setting possible. Does anyone else also get this? Wish I could put fuel sim on but then I finish last every time, because the AI isn't affected by fuel sim.

Another thing: is there a program I can use to edit those weird XML files that F1 2010 has, i.e. the one with the text that looks like a single string?

Fuel simulation is claimed to be corrected in the patch... of course if the AI has fuel simulation it'll be back to you dominating them, so...

True as well... at least then there'd be more chance of me losing it as the car would be harder to drive.

So they took one step forward and two back. Wow.

Just out of interest, as I'm getting a PS3, was F1 Championship Edition any good?

Actually Codies never admitted to fuel sim and tyre sim not working for the AI!

If you read the following report it would appear it's not been touched.

[community.codemasters.com]

Basically he starts in the top 10 but finishes last due the AI having vastly superior race pace.

You can still get the demo on the PSN store if you want to try it out.

You could probably get it for a very cheap price, so its probably almost worth it.

It's good for no longer than a week. It's extremely repetitive. In Career you have to do these stupid testing bits and you're ALWAYS running at dusk. It's just a terrible waste to not be able to drive the tracks with proper lighting. When you lose the car it's also weird, it's like the same pattern all the time (on the rear). When I played it I didn't have my wheel setup on the PS3 so I don't know how it is with the wheel, but it's an uninspiring game. Sure it is solid regarding bugs/glitches, but it gets sooooo boring by round 3 of your 1st career season.

I think it's quite good, and great to drive once you get used to it - though the AI is a bit easy on some tracks

Yeah I know, I was just going off a post saying their early race pace was much slower now.

I don't see why fuel simulation is important in this sort of game. All the little things like that are completely meaningless given how broken and adaptive the AI are. You could simulate fuel, tyres, brake wear, brake heat, engine wear, gearbox issues, hydraulic issues, everything ever - but as long as the AI continue to set completely fake times and adapt there speed depending on where the player is, it's all meaningless.

It's not important in the slightest... or wouldn't be if the AI didn't model it while your car does... hence you start on pole, yet are 5 or 6 seconds a lap slower than the AI at the start of a race.

I did turn it off - I never even raced with it on after I read the problems here first - but it magically turned itself back on again, and the first I knew of it was at the start of a race when Hamilton, Button and Webber raced off into the distance within a lap.
