lmao!
he was though! suddenly this song becomes more poetically christmassy than first seen! damn, Ellis if only you had reached the hearts of the elderly on this angle!

Jesus was killed in the name of... religion! I am so awaiting a RATM Jesus persecution video. THAT would have made some awesome debate!

You have a valid point there. It's true. But if my RE Lessons were of any use, wasn't Jesus Christ BORN on 25th December and then crucified somewhere around Easter?
Dan is telling us that RATM have produced a Christmassy song with religious undertones. I doubt RE is his strong subject. :)

Or music. Or Christmas. ;)

if you're gonna buy it, do it before midnight tonight UK time, or else it won't count in tomorrow's chart.

F**k me, she missed the point so spectacularly that I can't even reply to it.

Thats the problem with opinion pieces. Most peoples opinions are worthless.

It wouldn't a long stretch of the truth to say that I've never even heard of this Joe whatisname.

For me this goes way further than x-factor, it's a protest against the whole "pop" culture to say up yours to X this, celebrity that, get me out of big brother etc etc (yeah I know i got most of that wrong, bit it's kind of the point.)

I find the mainstream cringeworthy in the extreme. I could well do without such drivel as x-factor, pop-idol, big brother, get me out of here, love island, britain's got talent etc... is there any @#$%& I've missed?

I didn't think it was a bad article. It put things across from the otherside, without just resorting to the old "oh baby Jesus, let him have his Christmas". That she missed the point is fine, but I don't think RATM have covered themselves in glory either... frankly, other than giving their proceeds to charity, from what I've watched and read, I think they've missed the point too.
From the interviews on Radio 5 Live, they seemed to get the point enough tbh. About not having to put up with the ridiculous lock out every year that simply lines the pockets of record producers. To me, Rage taking pretty much no financial gain from it (for those who don't know, profits for the band overall are going to Shelter, Tom Morellos personal profits are going to Youth Music UK, and Zack de la Rocha will announce his charity later) and doing it for the point of doing it is a stark contrast to what the X-Factor single stands for, and has stood for since this deliberate lock out of the charts.

Although it is far far far from official, it seems RATM may have won. All of the links I've seen, twitter posts from relatively important people, and news reports claiming to have inside info, state RATM as the winner. It is all meaningless until BBC Radio 1 does the charts of course, but it seems like it might have worked.

However, something which is being overlooked is next weeks charts. The RATM single will not sell, obviously, as the campaign is over. So what will? There is nothing new - it will be Joes. No matter what the positions are today, and whether or not X-Factor wins or loses, they will no doubt be the first #1 of the 2010 year. The people supporting X-Factor should look at that as the positive.

Edit: Whilst it may seem high horse to post this part, meh.

It has to be said, between the 2 artists, Rage took the high road. The insults from Rage have been directed firmly at Cowell, and his associates of the show and how they have practiced over the years. They have not once, to my knowledge, attacked Joe. Meanwhile, on the other side of things, Joe has been calling the song rubbish, saying he hates it, and throwing darts at pictures of the bands front man, Zack. Unlike Joe, Rage can actually be called artists. They write there own songs and perform them live. So far, Joe has not done this, and whilst I may get proven wrong, judging by previous X-Factor winners, never will. It would have been so easy for Rage to directly attack Joe for being nothing by a glorified karaoke singer, but they didn't. IMO, Rage have fought a very respectable and polite battle, whilst Simon and Joe have been very vocal and bitter about the entire thing.

Simon does get 1 piece of credit from this. This morning he phoned the owner of the Facebook Group and wished him luck. Whilst the cynical have been saying that is nothing more than a PR stunt, it is better than the slagging match.

Edit again:

The Shelter donations have now hit £63,000. (I've not added my £5 yet, I'll have to do that after X-Mas unfortunately). That in itself is worth more than anything tbh. That's an awesome feat.

Here is yet another spectacularly poor piece of reporting which has been written by somebody with clearly no idea whatsoever of who RATM are.

i thought about this last night and posted on facebook a couple of times that if we all continued with the campaign like this last week, we could get RATM #1 next week to be the 1st #1 of the new year too. i also sent Jon (founder of the f/b campaign) a message saying the same thing, that we wouldn't want a xfactor puppet bringing in the new year. no response though so i guess it's not going to happen, unless we all try to do something? i would be happy to do it all again for next week.

yep that's great, i donated my £5 plus gift aid yesterday.

and the whole dartboard thing with Joe was all of course set up by The Sun, and being the puppet that he is, he can't go against what their agenda was and the angle they were taking with it. i bet the other losing finalists are glad they didn't win now!

and i love the comments under that article from the Telegraph Locke posted.
