I wholeheartedly agree. I don't see how a tween-pop princess song could ever cause anyone a problem if it were covered. If anything, it's the polar opposite to what you're saying (locke), in that it is flattering that her song would be chosen to be covered. On top of all that, claiming any given song/moment/deity could turn miley cyrus into a 'real' singer is somehat dubious in itself!
Well that's quite an immature comment at the end of your post there. Just because it's not your personal taste in music doesn't make it "not real".

I was certainly not being sarcastic. Just because you don't listen to pop does not give you the right to dismiss it as unimportant. I know Miley didn't write the song herself but it still has significance to her as being the one that established her as something other than a character in a kids' TV show. It's Her song. For someone to cover it not six months after it's been released is, I feel, a bit disrespectful.

If a new up-and-coming rock band produced an awesome song that was going to be their big break, and then someone else swooped in and released it and got all the success from it, you'd want the original band to get the credit. In pop music, the same should apply. If your sole objection is on the grounds that "it's teen-pop so it doesn't matter", then yours is a pretty poor argument.

Do you know what it used to be called when someone sung songs written by other people? Karaoke. What's it called now? Pop Music.

Cyrus didn't produce anything/

BBC Radio 5 Live had the brilliant idea of getting RATM to play Live this morning! Fantastic right? Well, for everybody except the producers. Much swearing occurred and they got cut off in the final couple of lines as we heard the producer panicking in the background, shouting "GET IT OFF". :D

Edit: Recording of the performance here: RATM - Killing In The Name - BBC Radio 5 Live

Lol...

I very seldom watch anything like X-Factor... but just the sheer slushiness of the eye expressions of the "X-Factor" lot make me want Rage to hit the #1 even more.

LS, isn't that video already posted on the previous page? :)

@ MikaH, here's the winner's version of the song in case you haven't heard it yet:

on bbc radio 5 live, talking about the battle, the singing live, they got cut off for swearing at the end ;)

That Radio 5 performance is awesome - but I don't know why the presenters were so surprised at the swearing TBH. Those are the lyrics of the song, and they should've just recorded the performance and censored any swearing out if it was that big a deal. They should've guessed the band would probably not censor their own song. Shelagh Fogarty's reaction to hearing it was amusingly pathetic.
The band members were brilliant in the interview, spot on in everything they said.

By the way, Cheryl Cole is apparently bleating about it now:

Excellent. :)

lol, someone should explain to Cheryl Cole that if Joes is good enough, he'll get a No.1 record by his own doing at some point in his career. Maybe she already realises that he's not actually that good, and this quick cash-in is the only way he'll ever be number 1. ;)

But RATM are still top with only 2 days to go?? :-o Wow, never underestimate the power of the internet. But they'll have to do some serious work to keep up over the weekend, I reckon. Tomorrow, Christmas shoppers will hit the malls in their droves.

Apparently they are now about as equal as possible this morning. In that case, the battle is over. The CD will sell at a monumental rate on Saturday. So unless the people in the Facebook Group who joined and haven't bought it actually go and spend 29p (yes, that little), then X-Factor has already won.

where is it 29p Dave? I was gonna buy it twice more from Play.

Haha, that BBC pandemic is epic. Well, you wouldn't expect a rock group to censor their own lyrics now would you?

"Get rid of it" - Lmao ;)

Do not buy multiplie purchases from the same vender. They get ignored if you do.

29p from Amazon - [www.amazon.co.uk]

How to buy it for free - I do not recommend buying 5 copies like this suggests. - [www.facebook.com]

cheers Dave. i thought you could buy 3 from a single vendor with one account before they didn't count.

but also, for the amazon link, some reviewers on there have said it doesn't count towards the chart if it costs 29p, and that a single has to cost 40p or more to count. do you know if this is true?

edit: having read the discussions under the reviews on amazon, people are saying that it does count, because amazon still pay 40p for it, even if we only pay 29p for it. so they are making a loss of 11p per download, but it's a way of getting more traffic.

let's hope this is true and they do count towards the chart.

and it's funny reading the views of x factor supporters, the people who don't want a "swear-filled" song at no.1 for Christmas (even though there is only swearing at the very end of the song). they say this type of song isn't in the true spirit of Christmas.
