Rage Against X-Factor. Killing In The Name of for UK Xmas #1

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.
I'm so glad I bought it. Bringing down the mighty Cowell. I loved on Radio1 when they read out that text about Irritable Cowell Syndrome.

The Daily Mail aren't overly happy, which to me is an added bonus.

why oh why oh why do they keep using terms like "expletive-laden" to describe KITN? the only swear words are at the end, and that whole part is chopped out for the radio edit, so anyone who has only ever heard it on the radio won't even know it has swear words in it.

The people have spoken! lets hope its an annual event now, any predictions for next years proposed song to go head to head with the X factors winners song?

Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen, was the best suggestion I've seen. They of course had a #1, but weren't allowed it. Someone suggested getting it #1 on the Queens birthday.

@#$%& YEAH!!!

Music is victorious!!

It's been a long, LONG time since I've cared that much about who was UK #1, or been so delighted to find out.

Credit to Dave, and to everyone else who's bought it!! We kicked manufactured commercial @#$%& in the ass!!!

we lost a lot of support because some people just don't like the sound of a song like KITN, the shouty lyrics and the way it doesn't fit in with Christmas, even if they didn't want xfactor to be no.1.

so some have suggested true Christmas songs like Fairytale of NY, or the one by Shakin' Stevens, or even Last Christmas by Wham. at least with those people can choose an alternative to xfactor that they actually like. just a suggestion, anything they do choose, i will support.

the problem might be the many copycat groups popping up next year, diluting the overall impact meaning xfactor will still win.

Joe McDreary is on Radio 1 right now, in case anyone's interested.

this is fantastic. I think a special mention should go to Dave for bringing this to the attention of the people on here. If this thread hadn´t been made then I probably wouldn´t have taken too much of an interest in it and so wouldn´t of been pestering friends to buy RATM. So a big well done to Dave and everyone who helped make this happen.
yes, well done to Dave. i'd heard about it before, but only after Dave posted here did i actively look for it and join, and then buy.

Fantastic! Jsut shows what the people can do.

Thanks guys, but I take no credit for this one! As awesome as it was to be part of the topple of the Cowell run, I was nothing but a tiny tiny cog in a massive massive machine, and certainly no bigger than every single person who bought the record.

It is a bit of a shame we can't get people to take such action against big issues in this world. But who knows, maybe this can kick start some protests that we SHOULD be protesting. Hell, maybe Rage will be the ones that get people moving. We can but hope.

Wouldn't mind that :)

But yes, if Dave hadn't put it on GPG, we wouldn't have gone out and bought it. Thanks a million Dave :)
as you said earlier though Dave, people are happy to do something as long as it's free. the facebook group had over 930,000 members at midnight last night, yet KITN only sold 502,000, and most of those were multiple purchases. meaning probably only a quarter of those members actually bought the song. people couldn't even spend 29p. it should have sold well over a million.

A massive kudos to everyone involved in this campaign. :) I CAN'T WAIT for tomorrow morning's news.

Yeah an epic example of talking the talk but not walking the walk.

Not even all of those sales would have been to facebook members either. I've never ever had a facebook account and still don't, yet I bought three downloads of killing in the name.

It's still a awesome achievement though because even though much of the group deserted when the call to jump the front came....those who were left simply charged harder. If those people could use the same vigor in a protest in something that really matters... who know's what it could achieve?

short of turning this into what dave would call a stroke job (page 2), well done ;)
I never thought I'd see the day that Rage Against The Machine was front page news on the BBC website.
