Welcome back to San Marino for the first race of the season. With Maikel De Boer taking pole yesterday for Holland and adding a point for his efforts with the revised points system it will be all to see if he can take home the victory as well. Right behind him is the first of the new nations Sweden looking to start their campaign brightly. The forecast did predict a 25% chance of rain but it looks like we are in for a dry race today. So without further ado lets get down to the action.

And its go here in San Marino and a good start by De Boer

He has the lead into the second corner with Silvestre looking to go up the inside of Apenstrom

But Apenstrom has out braked De Boer into the second and goes around the outside

And into the lead!

Further back contact between Marinescu and Kamikaze

Leaving Kamikaze round the outside of turn two

While just inside of him McGregor is squeezing up the inside of Antunis

De Boer is trying to see if he can get up the inside into turn five but not close enough

Silvestre is being more defensive against Maverick though

Same can be said for Kederer just shutting the door on Tafuro

Whereas Vilela ran wide under pressure loosing four places

End of the first lap and a predictable fastest lap for Apenstrom

Here are the standings after that first lap

Antunis is putting Hunsley under all kinds of pressure

While McGregor is on the defensive this time into turn two

Both men stay ahead this time with Girard falling back to the pack behind

Another fastest lap for Apenstrom

Antunis is looking from very deep this time

And outbrakes himself bumping into the back of Hunsley

Sending both men into the gravel!

They return to circuit at the back of the field with Hunsley behind Antunis

Having a look out of frustration but he will not find a way through just yet

Vukcevic cuts accross Jantsher at the very fast turn 11

Weaving down into turn 2 are Marinescu and Edvardson

But Marinescu keeps the position through the chicane

After sustained pressure by Girard McGregor is forced into a mistake at 11

Locking up and running wide leaves him facing backwards

Under yellows Jantsher has got it all wrong in turn 11 as well and careers into McGregor

The Australian seems alright to continue at the back needing a front wing

Jantsher is out though and the first retirement this year

A Problem has struck Vanthoor's car, we are hearing its a loose wheel

Byrne is trying to make some headway on Copeman but he will have to do something special in Variantealta

Vanthoor was unable to make it back to the pits and is our second retirement today

Standings with 5 laps gone

A spin by Vilela at the back of the field

Girard is now onto the back and threatening Silva

Antunis is having another look on Byrne this time and has to be careful after last time

Edvardson is thinking about it behind Kamikze now after he must of passed Marinescu off camera

The gap is creeping out between De Boer and Alpenstrom

Byrne suffers a bit of understeer out of the last corner and runs wide

This gives Antunis an easy pass with the better drive and even Hunsley can get around as well

Girard is really trying to get around Silva quickly he has the noticeably faster car and surely it is only a matter of time before he makes his way around

Edvardson has used the slipstream off Kamikaze to try and make a move on the inside

He has managed to push Kamikaze a little wide

but he has track position and manages to hold onto the position

The very next lap though and Kamikaze has made a hash of it at Villeneuve and runs wide allowing Edvardson through

Girard still all over the back of Silva and senses this is his time to make the move

He is all the way alongside before the braking point

And Silva locks up making it all too easy for Girard in the end

Down the field Vilela makes up for some of his early spins by passing Byrne

Standings before the pit stops

We will be back later tonight for the final two parts of the San Marino Gp. The broadcast team citing Coursework as the reason for the long break

Team Switzerland team radio

Engineer: Looking good John. You're 4th, the first three seem to have too much pace, concentrate on Germany and Italy behind you.
JM: Affirmed. And you guys concentrate on a quick pit stop!

Welcome back to the second part of the San Marino GP where we are at the stage of the pitstops.

First to pit is De Boer

Followed by Maverick, Kederer and Tafuro

De Boer returns to the circuit in third

Brilley comes in from 7th place

Maverick comes back out in 6th

Tafuro leap frogs Kederer who had a sluggish stop

Brilley returns just ahead of the battle between Antunis and Copeman

Girard and Edvardson both coming into the pits

Girard gets out ahead of Brilley to take that place in the pitstops

While Edvardson comes out right behind Silva

Finally its time for Alpenstrom who is followed in by Silvestre

De Boer is just coming towards the final chicane

But Alpenstrom is long gone comfortably retaining the lead

Silvestre keeps hold of his third place

Edvardson now much closer to Silva is trying up the inside

Bullies his way through

Sending Silva into the gravel

Who nearly collides with Edvardson has he rolls back onto the track

The pitstops have brought McGregor back into the action

As soon as he is back in the action he gets clipped by Antunis who previously caught Hunsley in the same spot

It spins McGregor into the path of Vilela and this time his car is too damaged to continue

Byrne passes the wounded Vilela who will scramble round to the pits

Standings after the pit stops

Vilela returns to the circuit now a lap down and dead last

The gap between De Boer and Alpenstrom has really grown now

Fastest lap for Alpenstrom as well, terrific pace being shown by the swede

Girard is closing the gap to Kederer

Edvardson is already on the back of Brilley

While Tafuro starts to chip away at Maverick's advantage

Edvardson having a look

As Girard is now caught up to Kederer and trying a pass into Villeneuve

Kederer has locked up gifting the position to Girard

And running wide in the process

Edvardson is just waiting for Brilley to make a mistake

And he does just that locking up

Running wide and allowing Edvardson through

Tafuro is now less than a half second away from Maverick

The gap is non existent now

Brilley is falling back to Silva

While Maverick cuts back accross Tafuro

Tafuro double move now has the inside

Maverick cuts that off leaving Tafuro nowhere to go and they touch!

Both men in the gravel and Tafuro facing the wrong way

Maverick still rolling keeps forth

Tafuro on the other hand slips to 8th right in front of the Brilley, Silva, Kamikaze battle

Marinescu's now lonely day perhaps sees a lapse in concentration and he runs wide and ends up facing the wrong way at 11

Girard has now closed the gap to Maverick because of the incident with Tafuro

Thats the end of part 2 with part 3 on its way

Welcome back for the final installment of the first round of the Nations Cup

We rejoin the action with Antunis getting involved again bumping the back of Copeman this time

Sending himself backwards into the gravel

Copeman continues on but under pressure from Hunsley who is now right behind him but he hangs on this time

Antunis ends up dropping two places

Standings before the final round of pitstops

Led by Alpenstrom

And followed by De Boer

Alpenstrom keeps his lead comfortably

De Boer returns to the circuit in third

Girard pits right behind Maverick

Edvardson comes in as well

Girard cannot steal a place in this pitstop as Maverick beats him out

Silva pits as Edvardson leaves

Silvestre pits

Allowing De Boer to retake his second place

Kederer pits from 4th

Silvestre eases back into third, the top three look comfortable in their own pace today

Brilley and Kamikaze pit, Important stops for the last points place

Kederer comes back onto the circuit for 6th

Brilley comes out right in front of Silva though

The pace of the Portugese driver sends him past Brilley and into 9th

Kamikaze needs to do something for Japan to score points now

Standings after the second set of pitstops

Mini break due to some issues with the internet

Terrible...

Girard is going to push Maverick to the end

While the gap is holding for Kamikaze

Just like Tafuro Girard goes for a double move on Maverick

Girard outbrakes himself hitting the side of Maverick

Sending them both into a spin and Kederer passes

Edvardson and Tafuro both go through as well

Maverick and Girard return to the circuit just ahead of Silva

Five laps to go and Vukcevic who has had a quiet race runs a little wide

Nearly collects the leader returning to the circuit though that was close

Alpenstrom is coming up on the battle for points now

Maverick takes a defensive line

But down the hill and he locks up running wide as Girard goes up the inside

He returns to the circuit but his points score today has gone

But this gives Kamikaze the 10th spot

Alpenstrom enters the last lap of what has been a dominant race

And takes home the win. Easy in the end for Sweden and Alpenstrom

De Boer second and Silvestre third

Unofficial standings of the race

Great race by Alpenstrom who took the lead in the first chicane and never looked back. Comfortable drive for De Boer and Silvestre with a lot of drama and action further down the grid. Great start to the championship and we hope to see you all for round 2 in Austria

There is only one word for this and it starts with F! Everything was looking so good. 4th was actually what I had hoped for because it had been the perfect outcome considering the boost points I used. How there is nothing, thanks to a Frenchman who - how should it be different - can't drive! ;-)

Well 11th and so so close to points is really good considering the boost or lack of boost that i used. Happy i didnt waste anything here :)

Press Release from the French GPGSL team....

Our man, Jean Girard truly excelled today. From the midfield, he showed just way we arrogant French put this genius behind the wheel. Plenty of passing from Jean, plenty of TV air time, we could not be happier. Although, the late spin with the Swiss machine cost us, and Switzerland some valuable positions in the finishing order. For that, we are disappointed. But, Jean has proved himself to be very capable.....
We apologise to Switzerland.

10th place without boost is pretty good.

An acceptable performance until the spin by Marinescu... Still 17th out of 19 finishing cars is not I was hoping for. Well in the end, it canĀ“t get much worse now... :D
Portugal:

Starting 9th and finishing 8th... Nothing much!

Nice second! Hoped for a little more though! We just couldn't match our qualify speed

Your driver drove Italy off in the mid race, and France had no fault into that crash.Your driver should learn to accept the fact of being passed sometimes ;)
