Race has been run and won, with more overtaking than I've ever seen in Imola. Coverage will be up tomorrow I think.

2006 Gran Premio Foster's di San Marino - Race

Part 1

It's race day, finally! Hello everyone to todays 4th race of the 2006 Formula 1 season. Before the race starts, lets have a quick look at the starting grid, as it have been some days since the qualifying took place. For the third time this year Jenson Button will start from pole position, alongside him Ralf Schumacher in the Toyota. In the second row we have Button's teammate Alonso in 3rd, and Robert Kubica in the McLaren in 4th. Behind them both BMW-Saubers in row 3, and the Ferraris in row 4. In row 5 we have Frentzen in 9th and Montagny in 10th. Row 6 is occupied by the both Super Aguris, who showed a strong performance in quali. Behind them reigning world champion Michael Schumacher alongside Mark Webber in the Red Bull. Heidfeld follows in 15, then da Matta, Davidson and Lotterer. Current championship leader Kimi Raikkonen is only in 19th place, together with him in row 10 is Bas Leinders. In the last row there are Vettel in 21st and Villeneuve in 22nd.
The cars are now coming back from the formation lap and lining up the grid, so we go straight to the track for the start of the race!

The red lights are off, here they go!

Ralf Schumacher tries to take the lead, and Kubica attacks Alonso for 3rd

Side by side into turn 1!

And Schumacher takes the lead!

Kubica up in 3rd

Lotterer has gained two places and is now in 16th

Ralf Schumacher leading, at the track where he won his first GP back in 2001

Coulthard and Montoya have kept their positions

Kubica now trying to pass Button, but the Brit has the better line and stays in front

Glock in 10th up one place, his teammate Kovalainen has lost 2 and is now in 14th

Leinders passes his teammate for 18th

Webber with a first try to pass Schumacher, but the German keeps his position

Kubica in 2nd!

Here's a replay of what has happened: He passed Button going into the Villeneuve chicane

The two Renaults now in 3rd and 4th

Ralf Schumacher leading, with Kubica behind him now

Raikkonen, who lost 2 places at the start, has passed Vettel in the Variante Alta

Fastest lap for Kubica

He has already closed up to Schumacher

That's Coulthard! His rear wing is damaged

The replay shows that he went off in the Villeneuve chicane

Raikkonen now back in 19th after passing Davidson, again in the Variante Alta

3 laps done, these are the current standings

Raikkonen fighting his way through the field, passing da Matta in the Tamburello

Lotterer attacking Heidfeld, and behind them Kovalainen and Leinders are fighting for 15th place

Heidfeld can stay ahead of Lotterer, but Kovalainen drops back behind Leinders

The battle for the lead

Leinders now right behind Lotterer, and Raikkonen has closed the gap to Kovalainen

Kubica leads! We're waiting for the replay to show us how he passed Schumacher

Here they are going into the Acque Minerali

And Schumacher was too late on the brakes!

He runs a bit wide, but that was enough for Kubica to pass him

The back end of the field

Glock in 9th, a great race for him so far

They are all very close from 4th to 12th. Looks like someone went in the gravel in the background

Glock now in 8th

And here's a replay, Frentzen has run wide! This mistake drops him down in 10th place

Davidson too seems to have made a mistake, he dropped back to 21st

Montoya right behind Alonso, the Renault seems to be holding him up

Raikkonen and Kovalainen side by side in the Villeneuve chicane

Kovalainen runs wide!

That allows Raikkonen to pass him

With this we make our first commercial break. We'll be back soon!
2006 Gran Premio Foster's di San Marino - Race

Part 2

Welcome back again, we're watching Schumacher just as Kubica sets a new fastest lap

Heidfeld and Webber side by side on the way to turn 1

And the German gets past

Button with a little gap to his teammate now

But from 4th to 11th there's almost no gap

Here the group from 13th to 16th

Michael Schumacher comes in early for his first stop. Maybe he's on a 3 stop strategy

Vettel comes in the same lap

One lap later the leader pits

Button is in trouble!

He has to retire with a water leak

Lotterer is off at the Variante Alta! Looks like he collided with Leinders. Luckily no damage for both.

Raikkonen makes use of this and gets past Leinders

Who drops back to 18th behind his teammate

Ralf Schumacher now back in the lead

Lotterer was in the pits, and gets back out in 19th

His teammate comes in one lap later, followed by Davidson

Montoya still stuck behind Alonso

His team now calls him in the pits, they sure hope to get him past Alonso this way

da Matta, Leinders and Massa now also coming in

Missed by the cameras, Raikkonen has passed Webber

Kubica with a great speed today, although he already has stopped, he's again right behind Ralf Schumacher

Kubica retakes the lead as Schumacher heads in the pits

Montagny, Raikkonen and Kovalainen also in for their first stops

One lap later Alonso, Glock and Villeneuve make their stops

Alonso back out behind Ralf Schumacher

Glock rejoins in 8th

And he's ahead of Montoya! Seems that something went wrong at Montoya's stop, he has lost much time!

Verstappen and Heidfeld in the pits

And Webber too comes in

Great job by the Ferrari crew, Verstappen now in front of Alonso!

Heidfeld too gets out in front of Montoya, and Massa too has lost much during the stops

With everyone having done the first stop, let's have a look at the standings

Glock really with a great race, he can go the same speed as Schumacher and Alonso in front of him

Verstappen in 3rd, Raikkonen in 11th, with only a very small gap between them

Coulthard in for his first planned stop

Raikkonen passes Montagny for 10th

Verstappen is slowly getting closer to Ralf Schumacher

His brother Michael currently is in 5th place

Raikkonen and Massa side by side into turn 1

And the Finn gains another position

It's time for another break now, but we'll be back in time for the second round of pitstops!
2006 Gran Premio Foster's di San Marino - Race

Part 3

As promised we're back in time, just as Michael Schumacher comes in for his second stop

Vettel too on the way to his crew

There's smoke coming out of one of the Toro Rossos!

It's Heidfeld!

He retires with an engine failure. Very disappointing for him, as he was running in a very good 6th place

Lotterer pits

Glock still pretty close to Alonso

Kubica is in for his second stop

He keeps the lead

After his stop Lotterer now is right behind Davidson

Michael Schumacher is off the track, and he is out of the race with a loose wheel

Raikkonen and Montoya fighting for 6th place

Verstappen is past Schumacher in 2nd! We're waiting for a replay

Here it is: they were going in to turn 1 side by side

And Verstappen had the better line and was able to pass Schumacher

Coulthard is off the track again!

But this time he retires with a loose wheel

Glock now right behind Alonso, impressing performance of the young German

Montagny has run wide at Variante Alta

He is lucky as he just loses time, and no position

Lotterer tries to pass Davidson

And succeeds, 16th place for him now

Glock enters the pits

One lap later both Raikkonen and Massa come in

Raikkonen has to wait until Leinders has passed him

But he manages to stay ahead of Massa. Kovalainen now also in the pits

Montagny, da Matta and Davidson coming in for their second stops

Verstappen and Ralf Schumacher in the pits in the same lap

Alonso also is in!

Verstappen gets out in 4th

In front of Schumacher, who now is in 5th

Alonso back out in 7th place

Glock in 8th is still behind him

Montoya in the pits for his final stop

Webber too comes in

And Montoya stays behind Glock, and in front of Raikkonen

Kubica on the way to his crew

Last stop also for Frentzen

And Kubica easily stays in the lead

With this we make our final break. Stay tuned for the final laps of the San Marino GP!
2006 Gran Premio Foster's di San Marino - Race

Part 4

Welcome back everyone, as you can see Montagny has passed Massa during the pitstops

Vettel enters the pits

His teammate Webber has to defend 10th against Lotterer

And he goes off!

A driving mistake by Webber, luckily he doesn't damage the car

He continues the race in 16th

Lotterer in the pits now for his last stop

Montoya attacks Glock for 5th

And he can get past

Everyone has done their final stop now, so these are the standings with 12 laps to go

Glock and Raikkonen side by side in the Villeneuve chicane

Great job by Glock, he stays in front

Raikkonen tries again one lap later

and this time he passes Glock

Ten laps to go for Kubica to take his first win in F1

Glock on the way to the first points for the new Super Aguri team

Davidson in 18th, a disappointing race for him

Alonso in 4th

4 laps to go, and the gap between Glock and Montagny gets smaller every lap

Same goes for the gap between Alonso and Montoya

Frentzen in 11th, his mistake early in the race has most likely cost him his first points since his comeback

2 laps to go, and Montoya has closed the gap to Alonso

Last lap for Kubica

Montagny very close to Glock, but he has to stay ahead fo Kubica if he wants to have a last chance for an attack

But he won't have this chance, Kubica laps him just as they enter the Variante Bassa

And Robert Kubica is the winner of the 2006 San Marino GP, his first win in F1!

8th place for Montagny, the graphics are wrong here

Verstappen finishes second, also thanks to a very good pitstop strategy

3rd place for Ralf Schumacher

Alonso has managed to stay ahead of Montoya and crosses the line in 4th place

6th place for Raikkonen, after starting only from 19th place

And 7th place for Timo Glock, who showed a great race today and gets the first points for his team this season

Thanks everyone for watching, full results will follow very soon!

DOTD: Robert Kubica, winning his first GP with a dominating performance.

Ferrari

Very happy with Jos' race, 2nd is a well deserved podium for him! Kubica was really unbeatable today, he was of superior class!
We are not so sure what happened with Felipe, he just couldn't get the tires to work properly. We can only hope next race will be better!

Superb coverage! Thank you :)

Fantastic race from both our drivers. Robert showed an impressive performance today and rewarded himself with his first win in Formula1. Kimi also with an excellent race, fighting back in the points after only being 21st after the first lap.

Solid drive again from Ralf to make the podium,we think with a better strategy he could have been 2nd,good result though..as for cristiano disappointing to say the least to be 14th when the car is capable of top 3..

Great coverage m8 :)
Once again thank you Kedy, superb coverage as always :)

On a different note the Mugello test session will be run on Monday, however I'm yet to receive testing plans from the following teams:

Ferrari
Red Bull
Midland
Toro Rosso
BMW Sauber

Teams have until midday on Monday to submit their testing plans otherwise they will not take part (please send testing plans to the F1_Manager account). I believe I am right in saying that all teams have plenty of testing budget to attend but as I no longer handle the budgets, I'm afraid I don't know the specific amounts each team has. However, that being said Jake should be able to give the specific amounts if you're interested.

RD-wise, if there are any volunteers to run the Spanish GP European GP then I can set you up with the mod and a set of perfs, however I do appreciate that this is a busy time of year, myself included, for many people on the site. As I have previously said in order to get us back into the swing of things I am planning to get two or three races done in quick succession, but that won't be until after the 17th so if anyone thinks they can run a race between then and now that would be great.

If worse comes to worse I'll be running both the Spanish European and Monaco GPs and I might experiment with providing video coverage just to see if it's quicker than the traditional 'storyboard' coverage.

EDIT: My bad, completely forgot the European GP was a thing

Midland

Disappointing race with offs from both drivers. We seem to have good speed at times, but results need to improve.

Sending testing plans to you now.

Super Aguri

Amazing race of Glock, first points this season!!
Mugello Pre-Season Test Session

With the San Marino GP done and dusted the majority of teams took up the opportunity to make the relatively short trip over to the very popular Mugello circuit in Italy. The exceptions from this rule were only revealed to the media as testing got underway with both BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso electing not to attend the test, referring to limited testing budgets to justify their reasoning. On track however, there was relatively little change at the front with Kimi Raikkonen topping the test session for Mclaren. However, one of the biggest improvers appears to Toyota with Jarno Trulli ending the day just over half a tenth of the Finn's best time, encourging news for the team currently sitting in 7th in the WCC. Moving down the field, Heikki Kovalainen's pace will no doubt please supporters of Super Aguri whilst Adrian Sutil rounded off the 18 strong field in last place.

Raikkonen on route to the top of the timesheets

Awful race and awful test. We aren't going to recover anytime soon
