Superb race management by Button. Made the rest of the field look like amateurs today!

However, it has to be said that Alonso and Vettel were still WAY quicker than anyone else today. Alonso was dead last, facing the wrong direction at the end of the first corner, and yet he still got himself into a position where he could easily have been 2nd! Vettel could have romped it if he'd kept going. IMHO those two are still the two to beat: Vettel is the quickest in qualifying, Alonso has the best race pace.

P.S. Michael Schumacher, by anyone's standards that was a pathetic effort.

Cracking race! What a bummer Webber had a few issues (I'm a very proud Aussie) but how good to see drivers having a go!!

Well done Button, well done Kubica, the Ferraris just sort of hung in there but Hamilton and Webber were on max attack and how good was it!

Now for a light sprinkle of rain just before every race.... Bernie what can you cook up for us?

Best Melbourne race ever?

Certainly not. 2003 wsas the best Melbourne race ever, without a doubt.

I can't remember 2003, but 2002 stands out for me!

This was a great race. See, we just needed to give the rules a bit more time. Sure, the rain helped a lot. But it's not a borefest like the critics predicted.

Ahhh... we're making the same mistake again jumping to conclusions after a given race.

Don't forget that the Australian Grand Prix is ALWAYS a cracker. It's down to the nature of the track.

but i still believe there's a possibility for borefest to return in Sepang...
i mean Melbourne (along with Montreal) always delivers great races, no matter what rules, what cars, what weather...

on the other hand... Sakhir is always lame... i think we'll have to wait a "neutral" track to see what these rules can do...

I know, but what I meant is that you CAN have a good race with the rules we now have, as apposed to what the critics feared after Bahrain.

Really? The last couple have been a bit straight forward.

Today was undoubtedly a cracker though. Bring on Sepang and some more monsoonal conditions, a crazy Priest, a dog or two, maybe a driver punch up and then we've got a real race!

What a day, what a race!!! A day full of great action at the track today. On the way home right now...
Webber had an interesting day. More terrible luck, combined with poor timing on the first pit stop. That Red Bull of his had awesome pace. Just a shame he couldn't keep it up the front all race, and then that crash with a handful of laps to go - his fault, but in reality, with those 3 cars so close together, it looked like contact was inevitable at the corner.
Button was very lucky to have pitted when he did, and take advantage of the dry. Good on him for having the balls to pit early. Well done on the win.
Yet another EXCELLENT Grand Prix for Melbourne. Maybe the FIA should host all races here in Melbourne?? Maybe give Monaco, Silverstone and Spa a race, and be done with it! LOL!

Also a testament of the safety and strength of these cars that Kobayashi and Hulkenberg were not injured.

True, that was a huge smash! His frontwing just broke like it did in FP, didn't it?

Does anybody know what the boo-ing at the podium was about?

Wow what an epic race, one of the best iv seen!
After the incident with Alonso/Schumacher having to make their way back up, i was expecting something similar to Kimi in suzuka 05. Alonso was brilliant! Working his way back up was great to see and to finish 4th right behind his teammate! Stupid Massa though for holding him up. He should have been much faster, both should have took Kubica and finished on the podium. But anyway atleast he is still leading wdc.

Gutting for Vettel, yet again a car problem letting him down :(
Great race for Button also, brave decision and well driving by looking after his tyres and setting competitive laptimes until the end!

Wasn't that crash a bit full-on? I think KK did a good job trying to steer into the wall on the right but the speed just made than accident with no other outcome.

Today proved that what we need to do next year when we get a new tyre supplier is get rid of the "two types of tyre" rule. With everybody on the soft tyres today, there was the option of either hanging in there or pitting and going full attack. Perfect example is Button's and Hamilton's strategies. When the double diffuser goes, and the stupid tyre rule hopefully goes then the race will be opened up to varying strategies as we saw today, because people can only overtake if there is a time difference between the cars, no matter how clean the aero gets.

Translation: The racing is better when we get rid of silly restrictions and let them get on with it.

Shocking revelation.

He didn't steer it anywhere. His front wheels weren't even touching the ground. ;)

Undoubtedly he his someone earlier in the lap though. His Friday failure was down to contact (with a kerb) and DLR had no issues with wings. Just coincidence. Horrible accident though, and very lucky there were no injuries there.

Webber is a bit of a prat for that final move on Hamilton, but you can't complain about a lack of racing and trying and then cry when the odd move goes wrong.

Button, Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel were all excellent, but Kubica was the driver of the day by an absolute mile. 2nd in a Renault? Epic.
