Gav, I'm not sure what happened to Heikki, but presumably he had to queue behind Hamilton and then got trapped behind all the other cars who were behind him prior to the first round of stops.

I think Massa is one of the niceest guys in F1, he near enough always talks to Brundle before a race on the grid unlike the others.

He was still at least 3 seconds behind Glock before the first safety car.

Apparently he had a damaged floor, but Kubica didn't hit him hard enough to do that much damage. Hell, for all we know, Massa was driving around with a big lump of carbon fibre stuck in his 'tea tray' until the end, and he was still setting times only a tenth or 2 off of Kimi's storming pace after that.

Dave, yes I'm well aware of the lights. Don't know who operates them though. Presumably race control have full control over them, but I'd assume marshals have a button or too as race control can't always see what's going on. Charlie's only got a few monitors.

I have met massa at silverstone, and he is far from coming across arrogant to the fans themselves. he was probably up there with vettel and kubica, signing things, shaking hands and having photos with the entire crowd of people lined up (like 150 of them) at about 11:45pm the night before the race. And he stopped for everyone!

He might be arrogant elsewhere, for his job role in situations, but then a lot of people are or have to be.

lol, i love how predictable you are Bruninho. During the race itself i actually said "whats the betting bruninho blames piquet crashing on the bumps?". Seriously, get a new thing its getting old.

Also, you must be the only person i have seen who hated the track/night racing, as literally evry one i have spoken to/seen comments from has praised it.

Regarding teh marshalls, weren't some of them flown in from Australia?

If piquet is not able to adapt to a heavy car he should not be in that car simple, he probably would have spun a light car as well.

I thought piquet was going to be ok in F1, now I can fully understand why Williams did not want him. Half way in the year I thought he had got better, but then it was back to tracks he did not really know and he was off the pace yet again.

He is damaged goods and I dont see any other F1 teams wanting him so he will probably end up in the USA somewhere if he is lucky.

I thought the GP was really good and even if the saftey car had not come out it would have been a great race between kimi and lewis.

He is damaged goods

one of the best definitions I have ever seen. Tragedy is even worse due to the fact that he was ment to be grand prix driver before he was even concieved.

I was quite surprised at how slow Trulli was with a fat tank of fuel. He was about 3-4 seconds a lap slower than the front runners, and only really got going when the fuel level was low.

Just plain LOL @ Ferrari. No surprise to find them resorting to the lollipop for the last stops. Good to find that the fuel rigs have a clean break in them to avoid a repeat of Bruni/Minardi dragging the rig+container down the pitlane (France 2004 IIRC).

My dad thought about something last night. Hydraulic jacks in the pit box floor, only when the car's on it correctly can the fuel then be connected, and only once the fuel rig's clean away can the car then be released. Now, that might work, but I think just having the rear jack up while the fuel's in should be sufficient.

There are tons of ways they could implement the eletronic lollipop system better. But I'm not sure if there are regulatory issues that prevents them from trying those things.

it's important to notice the problem was caused by the mechanic manually controling that system not the thing itself

Sure, but not exactly meant to analyse this last factor, Hami lost also points in Bahrain or Canada for example or kimi in Monaco or Heikki in many occasions too , every driver had their shares of mistakes , it's meant more to be more like you said in first part, how they concentrate into reaction :)

or maybe under car air jacks like indycars use.

I do think though Massa has lost 20 points this year through no fault of his own. This is not counting his errors in australia, sepang and Silverstone.

All the points Lewis has lost have been down to him really.

But also in a way massa is lucky as by rights even though some disagee he should have lost points in Valencia due to the pit stop and had lewis got his points back Lewis would near enough be world champion.

So I think its just about balanced out.

or, the simplest solution of them all - don't allow anyone touch the car until its finished refuelling

After departure od Todt, Brawn and Schumacher Ferrari are heading slowly but surely back to the late '80 early '90 italian chaos style of F1 team

100%

Last year Ferrari kept the 2006 momentum, but this year Kimi can achieve only 87 points and Massa hardly 100. They are little by little loosing ground. But they are lucky tough, McLaren is not much better. Hamilton's results are not so good compared to last year, Kovalainen is nowhere and BMW is far behind them after a strong start.

This championship level is quite low in fact, top teams and drivers are having quite bad races and results.

I tend to lean that way too. If you count up, both Lewis and Massa did about the same number of mistakes, so they are kinda even in that regard. What definately plays against both Ferrari drivers, actually, is the team, be it making mistakes on the strategy and pitstops or trying things in the car that don't work for one of the drivers and keeping it that way until the crap hits the fan. I still don't understand how Kimi got so uncofortable with the car after Spain. If you had asked me at that point in the championship, I'd have said he had it in the bag, but fast forward a couple of months and you see things falling apart.

I'm no Massa fan. I can see a lot of people here like him and say he is a nice guy. But he has done things in his professional life that are hard to swallow. Maybe one day I'll change my mind, but right now I don't want to see him as World Champion. Still, nobody deserves the cock ups Ferrari done to him and Kimi this year.

Also true. Especially comparing this season to 2005 for instance, where both Kimi and Alonso did a fantastic season with them rarely making mistakes.
