Lewis should start out of the pits, and so should Rosberg... ;)

Yes but MS did not have the fastest car back then so they tried something different. if i remember right I could be wrong.

Starting at the front which I assume ferrari will there is just no need for it, unless the tyres wont last. Massa just looked faster tbh as I said kimi seemed to have a bit of understeer.

Anyway its only free practice so they could be trying anything. Its not the 1st time we have seen kimi that far behind massa in practice.

Yeah, ok, and actually I'd quite like Rosberg to win. Maybe I'm not as indifferent as I appear. It's just a shame I won't actually be able to see the race as I'll be on a train.

they pitted 4 times cause they didn´t want to risk a puncture. the car (in combination with ms) was fast enough to secure the lead even with an additional stop.

wonder if massa is trying a 3 stop. He didnt do much laps - using less tyre sets than kimi...?

Oh so Lewis is not the only one that needs an extra stop in a race then lol :)

Wonder why mclaren took the bridge wing off, the car looked well strange.

totally wrong there, they said after the race they where originaly on a 3 stop, but brawn already had it in his head to do a 4 stop, as the pitlane is so short, so when alonso was in the lead, they switched to the 4 stop, the tyre issue thing is totally bullshit, then barrichello should have had it to, and he was on a 3 stop.

Dunno what the reason was for the 4 stop-strategy, but the argument that Barrichello should have had the same tyreproblems as MS would have possibly had, is not entirely true I think. There were a lot of occasions on which only one driver had a bad set of tyres, while the whole field was on the same compound had no trouble at all...

Alonso and Kovy did not have the problem with tyres in Turkey yet Lewis did so that throws that out the window as well.

that also depends on the driving style

and the settings that the driver gave to the car

but a tyre problem would have been impossible, then youll do 5(!) stints on each a set tyres, so that would be 70 laps : 5 is 14 laps per tyre set, that would be dramatic. I know for sure it was for the strategy and not for the tyres.

Practice 2 pace seems representative of qualifying IMO. Good to see Renault back on form, but I think France is a 1 trick pony for them this season. Discount FP1 times completely, because the track is far cooler in the morning than any other running; see Martin Brundle's book for a good explanation. FP3 tomorrow morning is generally a throwout because so many different fuel loads and testing is done!

It's an incredibly short pitlane here, so don't be surprised to see many 3 stops, and I wouldn't put it past McLaren to fuel Hamilton on a 4 stop strategy like Schumacher in 2004, but only if they've got the outright pace, which is touch and go at the moment.

For those trying to prove points about the strategy 4 years ago: that car was basically untouchable for the first 12 races because of the car, driver and the bespoke tyres. It will not likely happen again until a rival manufacturer comes in. I thought it might happen in 2006 because the tyres were far softer than '04, yet could last just as long, but it didn't.
