Honda seem pretty strong here. Times may not be amazing, but first time in a while both drivers pretty equal... so like Honda said, indicates both got the maximum.

no penalty for hamilton

Stewards at Shanghai have decided that no penalty needed to be applied to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton after he was investigated in regard to an incident that happened behind the safety car during the Japanese GP. The 10 place grid demotion penalty awarded to Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel for the same incident has been annulled.

Vettel hit Mark Webber's Red Bull and sent them both out of the race last weekend and he claimed he had been distracted by Hamilton slowing unexpectedly. Vettel was initially held responsible and given the penalty but this weekend Webber criticized Hamilton's driving, saying it had contributed to Vettel hitting him.

All three drivers were called to face the stewards after new video evidence of the incident was presented and it was decided that, given the appalling conditions during the Fuji race, it was not appropriate to award any sanctions. Vettel's grid demotion was retracted and the young German was given a reprimand instead.

The ruling came after Hamilton had apparently implied that he would not stay in F1 if he was unfairly punished. The British rookie expressed discontent and confusion about why he was being blamed for the Fuji accident and said this year there had been some "strange situations" where he was "made to look the bad person".

"It looks like this weekend I'm probably going to given a penalty and I think it's just a shame for the sport. If this is the way it's going to keep going then it's probably not somewhere that I want to be," he told reporters at Shanghai. Hamilton, who's amazing first season has bought many new fans to F1, can become the first ever rookie champion on Sunday.

Now that is just babyish :@

I feel sorry for Vettel in a way. Hamilton was driving like a drunk on New Year's eve at the time and deserved to be punished.

chill out guys, likely the comments were twisted or taken out of context. i doubt he threatened to walk off if the penalty stood. so many typical haters out there. the guy has been sensational this here, hes a brittish sporting hero already...and of course, like us brits love to do, we slag him off and try to destroy him ala david beckham etc... its sad

he deserves the title if he gets it. end of!

Written by a true fanboy! ;)
Look if he wins it (and I'm sure he will now), he deserves it. It doesn't stop the fact that he's got away with his fair share of misdemeanours this season.

yes, Mike just summed it up perfectly there.

most of us love what he's done this season, but if you're going to ignore any wrong things he's done, then that's just the behaviour of a fanboy who can only see the good things his driver has done and completely ignores the bad.

while everyone has their favourite drivers, a bit of objectivity in the comments and attitiude towards whoever that driver may be, is welcomed.

had that been M Schumacher who caused the accident at Fuji, how many of those saying Lewis was innocent would have wanted death by firing squad for Michael?

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

of course he was gonna get away with it, isn't this the same guys whos been switching lanes more than allowed at the start of the GP's?, don't they invented a rule out of nowhere to take Alonso out of pole and give it to him in HUngary?, or at Nurburgring when they put him back on the track, didn't they penalized Kubica for the "obvious race incident" between him and Kubica? even Kubica himself was surprised, and said had it been another driver he doubts he would've got the penalty..

i know danm, i was watching practice 2 at the same time, but weird for me i had different lap times, when i posted those it was like 3 mins to go, and even when the session stoped lap times remain the same, only Kimi flew himself to 1st, and it displayed a diferent time in both servers

I thought he'd at least get a grid penalty, maybe transfer Vettels penalty over...I feel he's a little bit lucky but hopefully he'll do better behind the safety car next time.

Well Vettels penalty about the - 10 grid positions has been removed also then i see no problem that hamilton don't get a penalty either. If they sticked to a penalty for Vettel then Hamilton would and should had one also. I think the stewards with removing the grid penalty of Vettel did a good job in this case.

Anyone heard about Williams moan @ Prodrive's entry? What's that all about?

B-team with a capital B. Its good for McLaren having '2' teams. Improve stuff, say test it with Prodrive and use it for McLaren. You might even see Prodrive nick a few points here and there.

It's nothing knew. The Sauber was a Ferrari B-car, the 95 Ligier was a 95 Benetton, the Super Aguri is a Honda, the STR is a RBR. Just in 2008 it should now be officially legal...or that's what we were told.

I read recently (meaning the last couple of years) that the 95 Ligier wasn't so much a Benetton as just have the Benetton aero package. Still doesn't change anything, but I thought it would be the full thing, minus the knowledge of how it worked, and perhaps the suspension and electronics.

It had Ligier developed suspension at least, which is part of the reason it was quite poor compared to the Benetton. Ligier testing at the super smooth magny cours meant it ran quite badly at tracks that weren't billiard table smooth.

Seems like a silly error tbh.
