Phillip Island - The race - Live broadcast (part 2)

And we're back with Johson trying to overtake Silvestre into turn 10

He gets the place

Nikolov in 5th close to Vukcevic

Hunsley runs wide! Another one who was too fast in turn 9

He crashes into the tyrewall and looses a wheel! That's the end of his race!

He was running in 6th place as he gained much places while Johnson blocked the track after his spin earlier in the race

Tafuro goes out of the slipstream of Silva

On the outside line into turn 2

And Silva has more grip on the inside and keeps his position

Silvestre tries to get inside Johnson, but he shuts the door

Girard takes this chance and passes Silvestre and has now the inner line into turn 4

Side by side with Johnson!

But he can't pass him

Copeman is the first to pit, he comes in from second place

And Antunis comes in as well

Copeman gets back out in 5th

Brilley comes in the next lap

As do Edvardsen and Silva

Brilley rejoins in 7th

and has to defend against Tafuro now who is yet to stop

Tafuro out of the slipstream into turn 4

And he gets past!

Vilela under pressure from Jantsher

Edvardsen in 14th after his stop

Silva in 16th

and Antunis in 17th

Kederer and Marinescu come in now

Jantsher still not able to pass Vilela

Tafuro has made his first stop now, too, and rejoins in 14th

Nikolov now leading in front of Vukcevic

Here's the replay of how he passed him a few seconds earlier into turn 4

Vukcevic now in for his stop

Back out in 7th

de Boer, Johnson and Vilela all pit in the same lap

And one lap later Nikolov comes in

This puts McGregor back in the lead

Girard and Silvestre in the pits

Jantsher as well

Kederer very close to Edvardsen in turn 3

he passes him into turn 4

and is in 7th now

Vilela passes Silva in turn 4

But Silva has the better traction and gets his place back

Vilela now again under pressure from Jantsher

Jantsher in the slipstream

gets out of it

side by side down the start-finish-straight

And he gets past

McGregor lapping Kamikaze

With the first round of pitstops done, lets take a look at the standings

And here's a replay of Tafuro passing Edvardsen

Evdardsen comes in again! Brake problems force him to another stop

Another replay of Girard passing Johnson

McGregor sets a new fastest lap

Silvestre under pressure from Antunis

Antunis takes the inside line into turn 4

But Silvestre doesn't give up that easily and gets back his place

The gaps between the top 8

Antunis now behind Johnson

Kederer closing the gap to de Boer

The second placed in the championship, currently in 13th place

Edvardsen after his problems now behind Byrne in 17th

And it's time for another break. Stay tuned for the last part of the race!

Phillip Island - The race - Live broadcast (final part)

And we're back at Phillip Island for the last part of the race

That's Vukcevic! He's off the track!

The replay shows that he also has run wide in turn 9

And Silva runs wide at the same place, while Vukcevic still waits to rejoin the race!

Luckily he doesn't hit him

They're now waiting side by side

And Silva rejoins in 18th

But Vukcevic has to wait almost another lap before he continues in 19th

Copeman comes in for his second stop

McGregor is in one lap later

Jantsher was in, too

And McGregor gets back in second between Brilley and Nikolov

de Boer and Kederer pit in the same lap, and de Boer stays in front

Girard in the pits now, too

Johnson comes in one lap later

followed by Silvestre

who stays behind him

and exits the pits just in front of Byrne

who has the higher speed and overtakes him very easily

Tafuro and Antunis now in for their second stops

Antunis gets out behind Edvardsen

Johnson tries to pass Antunis

Side by side into turn 3, but Antunis stays in front of him

Meanwhile Kamikaze, Brilley and Nikolov are all in the pits

Antunis is off the track in turn 9!

But he doesn't loose much time and rejoins in 13th

Marinescu and Vukcevic come in

With all stops done I think it's time for the standings

Our race leader in front of the lapped Vilela

Kederer close to de Boer

And Edvardsen comes in for a third time, seems that he wasn't fuelled to go to the end at his unplanned second stop

Jantsher in 10th, followed by Antunis

Silvestre goes out of the slipstream of Silva

Side by side down the start-finish-straight... but wait, the standings say that Copeman leads! What happend to McGregor?

Silva keeps his place while we wait for the replay of McGregor

And here's the replay: McGregor has run wide in turn 9! He throws away a sure win!

Luckily no damage to the car, but Brilley and Nikolov have passed him too, so that he's in 4th now

Here's the new leader

That's Nikolov trying to pass Brilley for second!

And he goes through!

McGregor, who must be in a rage now, sets a new fastest lap

Kederer still close to de Boer, but only two laps to go

Copeman starts the last lap

And he wins the Australian Grand Prix! Congratulations!

Edvardsen crosses the line 1 lap back in 12th, the TV graphics are wrong here

Vilela finishes in 13th

Silva in 14th

Right behind him Silvestre in 15th

Byrne is 16th

Marinescu finishes 17th

Vukcevic two laps back in 19th

Here comes the second placed Nikolov

And Brilley completes the podium in 3rd

Kamikaze one lap back in 18th place

McGregor finishes his home GP in 4th, but I think he won't be happy about that after leading almost all the race

Kederer finishes 5th! He has passed de Boer on the last lap.

de Boer in 6th very close to fifth as you can see the shadow of Kederer's front wing on the left side

Ah! Here's the replay of what happend. Kederer was besides de Boer into turn 4

And passed him on the inside

Tafuro crosses the line in 7th

Girard in 8th place

Johnson after his spin early in the race finishes 9th

And Antunis gets the last point for 10th place, although he was off the track two times!

Jantsher is the last one in the same lap with the leader, he finishes in 11th place

Here are the official results

and the fastest laps

That was the Australian GP, congratulations again to Chris Copeman! Thank you all for watching, I hope you enjoyed the coverage as much as I enjoyed watching the race. See you all again soon in Vallelunga for round 10 of the GPGNC!

(Sorry if some scenes were missed, but Hunsley's car wasn't removed after his crash, as you can see in some pics, and the directors cut camera stayed on him for the whole remaining race.)

Good recovery drive, but Marko was unlucky not to scrape the last point on offer.

F#@&... a sure big haul of points absolutely chucked away there, and seems like a massive waste of boost. Dammit!

My Grand Prix 4 Files

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?
A full weekend of disappointment. A great opening to the race, but brake problems meant there was nothing Edvardsen could do.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unless I'm very much mistaken... I am very much mistaken!
NOOOOOOO stupid Germany! ;) Last corners damnit xD So close to 5th!
Well driven and faultless race though, scoring points where Austria and Sweden are missing is what we needed!!

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!

Turn 9 was the crunchpoint in this race. In the test runs I had done there were much less cars running wide, and if they did they also recovered faster. I really didn't see that coming.

About the race:
I never expected to get 5th place, that's an awesome result. Johnson's spin helped me a lot as this put the midfield very close together. The fight with de Boer was much fun and hell, that was very close at the end as I run a bit wide in the last corner! (I had taken a screenshot of this scene, but fraps didn't save it, as some others too:-()

I had to expect it without using boost, but how the hell I lost so many position when other cars get in accidents instead of gaining them (I was 7, some accidents and boom! ... 12, then the leader runs wide and boom! ... 15)?

French Team - Post Race Driver Statement.

I am pleased with an 8th place. A good run through the traffic. Just got to improve our qualifying pace, and better results will come our way.

As Johnson spun at the beginning, you run into his car and get stuck. I've rerun the race until that point and added the missing screens to part 1 of the coverage.
About the second lost of position: you run wide at turn 9. Sorry for missing that.

Bulgaria statement

Woo-hoo! Well done, Nikolov! 2nd place, starting from 10th is very good result for us!

We are now back in top ten in the standings, which is our aim! Now we've been 3rd and 2nd, only first place is missing. We're optimistic that we would get our first victory during this season, which will be superb for us!
