PS: One other thing. You'll probably need to make two extra Windows library files available in your GP4 folder: MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL. Do a search on your machine and find those or go find them elsewhere on the net.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
1. Load PlayonLinux 2. In the toolbar, click the INSTALL button 3. Down at the bottom left, click Install a non-listed program 4. In dialog that comes up, click NEXT 5. Choose "Install a program in a new virtual drive" 6. Give it a name (GP4 will do) 7. "What would you like to do before installation?" You MUST choose "Use another version of Wine" (bby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Right now I'd have to point you to PlayOnLinux. Wine was recently updated to V9 and (for now) it doesn't work with GP4. More to follow. I'll write a guide for you, but in the meantime install PlayOnLinux OK? You're going to need it.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Hmm. Again, very interesting. I edit track magic data files all the time so I don't have a untouched 1997 trackpack installation to look at right now (and I'm busy with other things), but there are one or two lines in the track MD files that, while not directly something labelled 'variance', could conceivably impact on the SD, because there are still some entries in the MD filby Noog - Grand Prix 4
The way forward? Well, for what it's worth, here are my thoughts... In your spreadsheet you list these car specific characteristics: Handling Aero-grip Mech-grip Speed Reliability If we try to 'translate' these into GP4 controllable factors, we get something like this: Handling - grip Aero-grip - grip or power or a combination of the two Mech-grip - grip Speed -by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Thanks for the files. I think I should start with the bottom line. You ideas are very appealing, but the truth is, they are more suited to a game like RFactor. Let me explain. In GP4 we are very limited when it comes to control over individual cars or drivers and our primary tool (really, the ONLY tool we have) is the performance file (PF). With the PF settings for each qualifying sessionby Noog - Grand Prix 4
I agree that this is an interesting idea and it looks good too. However, I'm wondering how (or whether) you intend to make use of the real world Q & R lap times?by Noog - Grand Prix 4
An interesting study and a useful link to SDI's explanation of variance which I'd not seen before. Thanks. I do have one question though. Towards the end of your last you state that "variance must be high enough to distinguish it from internal variance which differs from circuit to circuit". In what way does "internal variance" differ from circuit to circuit? Isby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Looks like you've double-clicked the gpxcinfo.ini file. That's not what you need. Gpxcinfo.ini will take care of itself. Instead, you need to run GPxPatch, then click the GPxInfo tab and you'll see the .ini files you are using. One of the entries there should be called visors.ini, or something like that. So if you have that, double click it (and my earlier instructions staby Noog - Grand Prix 4
A real 'next level' accomplishment. Raises the bar forever. Incredible work.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
pitwall.app - Nice one. Haven't seen that one before. Very useful. Thx. What is RW data? Real world. Apologies, I should have made that clearer. "1.02 version.... algorithm" It must take you quite a while to do all that for each mod; but it's definitely a very thorough way of doing things and I found it informative. I'll be looking forward to your PFs for 1998 foby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Hi Dominique "I can create an integral PF FAQ with all my gathered data and correlation results" I'm sure that will be very useful to many here. "Technically I cannot understand how you can reach 100% failure. For me it's like a radioactive decay. You have each lap a certain probability of failure (or rather chance to survive) which cumulates to a given value toby Noog - Grand Prix 4
PS: A quick note about failure rates. You were right, but here's the 'official' explanation. 100% failure in a 100% race is 16384, so 10% is 1638 (ie pretty close to your estimate: well spotted!). However, it's worth noting that 100% failure is never precisely 100% because sometimes a car will break down after it crosses the start/finish line for example - and very occaby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Hi Uncle. It might have been better to start a new thread, rather than resurrecting on old one, but regardless, as a fellow alchemist I hope you don't mind if I add a few thoughts.... "1. They are based on the results and not on the real pace." Generally, for each event you have one recorded real world Q time per car, one set of race results and one fastest race lap time perby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Ok, this is all off the top of my head OK, but.... Make a second copy of your visors and put them into your gpxdata/pnl folder. I'll explain why you might need to do this in a minute. Now, go into GpxPatch/GpxInfo and double click your visor.ini At the top right you'll see an Enable images check box. Check it. Now click the Edit Underneath button and in there, you have to adby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Alternatively, you could leave GP4Tweak as it is and just use GPxInfo to call the visors in the NON-cockpit views.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
If you call the visors using GPxPatch>GPxInfo instead of using GP4Tweak to do it you should be able to show the visors in any view you want. Not sure about the rain and dirt though. I think you'll still need gp4tweak to get those to show up.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
My advice would be to forget about TSM completely for now. You don't need it. The original tracks comprise a DAT file and a WAD file. 1. Create a folder called MyCircuits or whatever 2. Now, for each track create a sub-folder and put those two files in it 3. Now use the GPxTrack tab in GPxPatch to tell the game where each track can be found. (You only need to tell it about the DAT -by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Press 8 on your keyboard a few times. It cycles, you see?by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Because the author of the mod sets up the menu you see in the game, assuming that you'll download and install the tracks.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Mods do not usually contain tracks; only cars. To install new cars, you can use CSM, which installs a 'carset' (xxx.cuh), or you can install them one by one. To change the tracks you can either use a trackpack (xxx.tuh), which has all the tracks used in a season, or you can install the tracks one by one. There are docs in the FAQ section telling you how to do all these things.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Slasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You learn something new everyday ! Well in that case I should probably correct a small mistake then! I said above the desc=74 adjusts the game clock; but that's not actually true. Desc=74 DOES tell the game what constitutes a lap in multiplayer mode, but it's desc=75 that actually adjusts the game clby Noog - Grand Prix 4
The answer to this can be VERY complicated, but you can start by comparing what you find in desc=74 of the MD file with the fastest lap time you are seeing on the track in qualifying. Desc=74 is on line 76 of the magic data file and it defines the fastest qualifying lap time in seconds, so 69560 means 1m 9.560s. (The value in desc=74 actually adjusts the game clock, but we don't needby Noog - Grand Prix 4
So you just want to change the back panel? In that case, look in the /gpxpdata/pnl/pitboard/ folder and edit the file called pitboard.tga - and if you want to change the size of it, look in the pitboard.ini file where the pitboard.tga is mentioned.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Deciding what it is you want to achieve would be a good start. Your question is very much like walking into a large food store and asking someone how to prevent starvation. It's not a appropriate question. Or am I missing something? But if you went in there and said that you wanted a meal made from cabbage, a bowl of sugar and a bird's beak you'd be in with more chance of aby Noog - Grand Prix 4
I have to go out now, but I'll upload the fixed version of your anim.wad and drop you a link later when I've had a chance to double check it OK?by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Stranger still, I can't make it crash AT ALL now - and if I'm not mistaken I've copied every single file over from the qualifying folder in your broken anim.wad! I think that's what gives this game such long-lasting appeal. It's just so incredibly weird sometimes! So, is it fixed at your end now too?by Noog - Grand Prix 4
OK. Not sure exactly where the problem is yet, but here's how to overcome it. I opened your anim.wad and into the qualifying folder I copied everything EXCEPT the skins from the qualifying folder in my working anim.wad - and it works fine. So it's something in that folder, but it's not the skins.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
