I can't remember the last time when a driver was so universally disliked through the entire F1 fanbase as Maldonado is today. We've had Grosjean last year, Nelson Piquet Jnr., Yuji Ide, who all showed great inability to drive, but at least they weren't a dick about it, so didn't get as much hate as Maldonado does. I have yet to see someone who is genuinely happy Maldonado may

F1 I'd think so. It could be you're allowed to use an engine that has been improved after homologation during one of the in-season tests, if a manufacturer deems it valuable. The Sporting Regulations say:
Track testing shall be considered any track running time not part of an Event undertaken by a competitor entered in the Championship, using cars which conform substantially with the cu

F1 I've read through the power unit parts of the Sporting Regulations and the Technical Regulations and found the following.
The TR say that an engine freeze is phased in between 2014 and 2018. Every year, less parts can be modified. The SR say that an engine provider has to deliver an engine to the FIA for homologation before February 28 2014. My conclusion is then that after homologation,

F1 We're all hoping RedBull is relatively weaker next year. However, their development team structure won't change much (I think one guy went to McLaren?). They have coped with regulation changes every year, though these were much smaller. If they aren't as dominant next year as they are now, it is likely to be due to one team finding a loophole like the double diffuser, rather than a

F1 Very true. The only reason people feel RedBulls domination may end, is the regulation changes. Bar that there is no reason to assume RedBull won't be at the front next year.

F1 What kind of money does Perez bring? If the Lotus-Quantum falls through (which seems to become more likely by the day), Perez might be able to fill their financial gaps. This would remove any reason to keep Maldonado in F1 for any longer and he'd be left without a seat. Oh, in an ideal world...

Off-Topic I had my reservations on DRS, but it seems the FIA is trying to decrease its influence with shorter zones, which is good IMO.
Bernie gets too much criticism (which I'm sure he personally couldn't care less about). This is mainly due to people who have no idea what his role in F1 is and don't know his ways of thinking. First: he has no power in rule making. He's there to mak

He drove on slicks on a soaking wet part of the track. That's not unlucky. He was lucky that he didn't smash his entire car to pieces.

My view on it is not so much based on that one article, more on the general driving behaviour we've seen from him lately. He's very often been called to the stewards and while they're stricter these days than they used to be, it's hardly a coincendence.
His only mistake yesterday was that with Webber and that has been cleared. And

F1 Not exactly from what I've heard. He had been told that he was on stand by for the Sauber team during the weekend, but still it must've been quite a hassle!
Also, it has been raining for quite a bit now in Canada, so much of the rubber laid down will have been washed away. Ideally, it would stop now, the track dries up and it would start raining 5 laps in :P

F1 That may be so, but it doesn't defy my point. Everybody was all crying their eyes out when they saw that and thought every car would look like that. 1: they don't, and 2: there are cars, within the same regulations, that look good. One reason is that people need to get used to it. People hate change (just think of the gazillion times F1 has been proclaimed dead when something new was in

Other Motorsports While I find it hideous, I do give a +1 for innovation and daring to do this. Due to the super tight regulations we have only one view of what a formula car should look like. Due to this one view, we find this ugly. But didn't we all puke when BMW showed their 09 interim car? The cars don't look so bad now because we're used to it. I find some actually very pretty. Same goes for th
