Not sure if any of the GPGers are familiar with urban exploration, the slightly unsafe past time of exploring abandoned places like factories and warehouses. Yesterday I met up with a couple of folks from a forum to go exploring an old threads factory which closed in 2004 after over 100 years of producing threads.
We climbed over an old rickety bridge to get in which looked like it was going to fall apart: the thought of a 30ft drop into knee-deep water was not a nice thought.
We wandered around taking pictures for a while and we were in the process of removing some glass from a window to climb through when someone spotted a security guard, so we ran as fast as possible in the only direction we could: up some stairs! 4 flights up and we encountered two locked doors. That's it: surely we'd be caught by security, police called, charged with breaking and entering and trespassing...
The only way was down, despite what Yazz says. Faced with four guys and one girl, the security guard was in no position to argue with us. He promptly turned out to be the nicest security guard ever, who told us if we wanted to look around, he'd have let us in. He then showed us around all the really cool places of this huge factory. Quite a lot was sealed off due to asbestos but the rest of it was still filled with the original machinery. Very cool indeed.
Most of us had cameras, so feel free to check out the pictures:
