GP2 Manager - 2005: Silverstone Free Practice & Qualification Results PG36 - Searching for a new manager!

Nelson Piquet Jr. top motivated
Welcome to the 3rd and last round of this years GP2 Asia Cup. After not managing to score any points in the last two races, Nelson Piquet Jr. now drove the fastest lap in today´s practice session here in Shanghai, driving +0.200 seconds faster then second placed Gary Paffett. Even though this would be nearly nothing in Formula 1, in the GP2-Series this is quite a lot. Nico Rosberg managed meanwhile managed 3rd.

@ginnerchris: I don´t think that it would be a big problem to upload the lap chart as well.

@Vomit: I´m really sorry, I did just realise that you wanted to change your driver line-up for this race. Sadly I did already run the practice and qualifying with your last races line-up. If you want me to change it, I will rerun the qualy.

@macca25: I don´t see anything wrong in my standings... There are 42 points given away every weekend, 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 for places 1 - 8, 2 points for pole position and 1 point for fastest lap.

ART Williams press release

We are delighted by Marc's 4th place. Finally he starts to show the performance we want to see from him. Mathias Lauda still has some place for improvement. But he will get his chances again and again in the FPs to show his real potential.

Nelson was simply fantastic!!! Sergio maybe replaced by the test driver....

2nd drivers evenly matched

We're pleased to see that both drivers have matched each other so closely in todays practice session, but we think there must have been something wrong with the set-up for us to be so far off the pace. Hopefully some adjustments overnight and Kamui back in the car alongside Benoit should see a step towards the top 10. Points look ambitious at this stage, but we have seen how close the differences between the teams have been and we hope to find something overnight.
Sorry, didn't relise there points given for pole.

Much better from Bernoldi, and we know Wurz will hopefully be around the sharp end in qualifying, just hoping for better luck in the race this time around.

0.002 seconds ahead
Today´s qualifying saw Kamui Kobayashi take the pole driving +0.002 seconds faster than Nico Rosberg. This will possibly be the closest ever claimed pole position in GP2-Series. Junior Red Bull Racings first driver Alexander Wurz will start tomorrows race from 3rd place. After the qualifying Wurz said, that he hopes to have a better race this time, after spinning in the last race while trying to get first. His teammate Milos Pavlovic, who drives his first ever GP2 Race will start in 10th position. Meanwhile Can Artam, who showed an awesome performance in last race drove the worst lap this time.

Brilliant session, it's given us a good chance for a win!

A furious team manager after the qualifying: "How the hell can it be that Marc shows his potential with 4th position in FP and then ends up second to last in the qualifying again? I am not really satisfied with him. If he goes on like this, his place could soon be given to one of our alternatives!"

Delighted with Wurz, we knew the pace was there, hoping he scores some solid points this time. No pressure on Pavlovic, hope he gains valuable experience in the seat and maybe some points as the pace is definately there.

Disappointment is the word. Both drivers had a bad result, we hope both drivers improve there places in the race.

Very pleased with Bruni's qualifying performance, 7th place gives him a good chance of scoring points. Monfardini down in 17th not as good though, we'll see how his race works out. We now look forwards to the final Asia Cup Race.

New team owner on the horizon

Shanghai may not be a favorite destination for European high-life, but still there are some interesting people in the paddock. One of them is Deyan Rangelov, owner of "DSR Performance" and "Water Melon Company". This exotic Eastern European points out that the reason to be in China is buying some new Chinese sort of water melons, but he combined that business trip with a visit to this wonderful Herman-Tilke-designed state of art race track, because "is a great fan of these series". Having been a karting driver for 2 seasons in past, Rangelov seems to love motorsport and the ones who know him told our media that if he decides to enter GP2 series - he will do it at any cost. Unfortunately we couldn't find out if he's negotiating with some existing team to takeover or looking forward to create a new team from nothing. FIA officials deny that there is an empty slot for a new team this season and it seems no team owner is willing to sell its own team, although some specialists say there's a financial crisis to come in some years time and maybe it's the right time for profitable deals. Rumours are fed futher by the fact that "www.dsrracing.com" has been registered, although we are not sure if this stands for a new GP2 team or something other.

PS Sorry guys for disturbing you, i just entered this forum and got excited over the prospect of playing with you. Today Mr. Rangelov put his papers in FIA headquarter and is hoping he wont be in the waiting list for too long.

good luck everyone and i hope we see one another in paddock again :)

Lyons is once again getting the best out of the car. Hopefully we can pick up some big points this weekend, although Sharp will have to improve if he expects to get points from 15th
Racing Engineering Press Release
ポールポジション
Kamui Kobayash was thrilled to pick up his first pole position in the GP2 series and thanked the team for giving him the chance.
It was a close session for sure, and we hope that our race performance is a little better than it has been in the last 2 races.
We know the competition from Super Nova and Red Bull Juniors will be tough in tomorrows race.

Benoit did not do too bad today, making good progress from yesterdays FP. Hopefully he will gain more experience and pace as the race progresses, and could sneak a point in the race. He'd surely put pressure on Lopez if he can.
Any news on the race?
Hey guys! I´m really sorry for letting you wait so long again. It´s just that I had my free week and I was spending really much time with my girlfriend. I´m thinking of maybe streaming the races live, because running and commenting them would be much easier for me and more enjoyable for you. Plus I think the streaming platforms can also save the streams, so you wouldn´t need to be online at a certain time, but just watch them whenever you want. Only downside might be, that my internet might not be fast enough. If most of you like this idea, I would like to stream a test race (this one?). But for now, let´s get to the race coverage!

Shanghai Race Coverage
Welcome everybody to the last race of the Asia Cup. In a dramatic qualifying, Racing Engineerings Kamui Kobayashi took the pole and is now ready to start the race in front of Nico Rosberg. With eleven more points to get in this race 7 drivers still have a chance of winning the first ever Asia Cup. But let´s not waste any more time, cause all five lights are on!

And we´re off!

Alexander Wurz and his teammate Milos Pavlovic both try to use the middle line!

Milos Pavlovic now has the chance to catch both, Heikki Kovalainen and Richard Lyons!

This is an awesome perspective, as you can now see all drivers.

Pavlovic gets through Kovalainen and Lyons, while Nelson Piquet Jr. overtook Adam Carroll!

And he is now challenging Gary Paffett and Gianmaria Bruni. Really good start from Pavlovic it seems!

Meanwhile we see Kamui Kobayashi, who managed to stay first in front of Rosberg and Wurz.

But he is running a bit too wide, while Carroll gets back his fourth position.

A little look at the back of Rosbergs car.

But what is this?! Alexander Wurz challenging Rosberg for 3rd!

But he fails.

And now Carroll is looking to overtake him.

Oh my god! I think this is Gary Paffett spinning back here! This would destroy his chances to win the Asia Cup Championship!

Seems like the other BCN Car is fighting against an ART Williams car, but I would more like to see who was spinning back there...

Or I might wanna see this! Nico Rosberg attacking Kamui Kobayashi for first position! And he needs this win, if he wants to win the Asia Cup!

And he´s through! Wurz also fighting against Carroll for 3rd. He is second in the Asia Cup with 5 points behind Paffett.

Did I congratulate Rosberg too early?

No I didn´t.

And Carroll now challenging Kobayashi for 2nd! He would win the championship if he gets through!

But he fails.

Wurz now again trying to get 3rd. After 2 bad races from him, he now needs to show that he is worth his money.

And he´s through! Wurz now in 3rd position!

Meanwhile Nico Rosberg sets the fastest lap.

And Coloni driver Gianmaria Bruni challenges Nelson Piquet Jr. for 6th. Both do not have any points up to now.

And he made it!

While Rosberg is happily driving in a fastest lap again.

With 3 laps done, let´s have a quick look at the standings.

It seems like I missed Pavlovic loosing some places, as Yuji Ide is now challenging him for 9th.

Bad camera perspective, but you can still see the fight back there.

And Ide gets through.

But that´s not all! I think this is Piquet´s teammate Sergio Hernandéz who tries to overtake Pavlovic, while Ide wants to overtake Richard Lyons.

And I was wrong! It was Lyons who had spun and Paffett is fighting against Kovalainen! This is changing everything!

And he get´s through! This ruins the chance for Rosberg to win the Asia Cup for now, as he can only get 19 points in the end, while Paffett would have 20 if he stays 8th.

I think Artam just overtook Lapierre.

And Lyons is looking to do the same.

But he doesn´t get through.

Monfardini running wide, opening the door for Montagny.

This was no problem for Montagny.

Sharp back here overtakes Marc Gene for 17th.

And we are back to the top where Kobayashi is driving in front of Wurz. It seems like Carroll got through to 2nd while the camera was showing the back row.

And back here Pavlovic tries to defend his first point.

And 2 laps later Alexander Wurz managed to overtake Kamui Kobayashi! Wurz now 2nd!

Rosberg meanwhile driving a lone and fast race.

Seems like Kobayashi won´t give up his 2nd place so easily.

Pantano is fighting against Lapierre now.

And he´s through.

13 laps are over, so let´s have a look at the standings again.

Paffett now challenging Piquet for 6th!

And...

We get cut off, just to see Wurz driving in second and setting the new fastest lap.

Well he gets a bit closer as well, but I would have more liked to see the duell back there.

And Piquet seems to have lost the position as Kovalainen is now challenging him for 7th!

But he doesn´t get through.

And the pit stops start.

Ouch, Tréluyer and Pavlovic touched!

It looks like both can drive on, but Tréluyer will have the better end.

Rosberg is pitting, while Hernandéz also seems to benefit from the collision.

Kobayashi back in first, but only due to not having pitted yet.

And Sharp, who did just pit lands behind Alexandre Prémat.

Now Bruni is leading the race. He is on a side note driving a really good race until now.

Pavlovic 3rd, but he´ll get in during this lap as well.

And Adam Carroll takes the lead! He is now looking to win the race and the championship if Paffett won´t manage to get at least five points! Here are the current standings:

Rosberg really did fall back to 2nd.

While Pavlovic managed to get 9th again, but Yuji Ide wants to take that position from him!

But we get cut off before we can see the result of this fight.

Whats this supposed to show us...?

Ah, I see! Pantano overtook Can Artam!

And the race is kind of boring right now...

Let´s have a look at the standings again: Paffett still needs to overtake 2 drivers and drive the fastest laptime OR overtake 3 drivers if he wants to have the same amount of points as Carroll after this race.

Not much happening. Prémat lost some time.

As did Kovalainen.

Hernandéz as well.

10 more laps to go, and it seems like Carroll will win this if nothing unexpected happens.

Vilander is getting closer to Sharp, but that´s nothing special as well as it is out of the points.

Is that smoke in the mirror of Pavlovic?

No, I think he just braked wrong. But now something might happen: Kobayashi got closer half a second to Rosberg.

Ehm.. well as you can see at the top, he didn´t get any closer though.

But now, Pantano is challenging Frank Montagny for 18th. It´s not about points but about prestige!

And he´s through!

Oh, but he is breaking wrong. Will this cost him his gained position?

What so ever, Kobayashi got closer to Rosberg! Will he manage to get close enough to Rosberg?

Oh no! No, no no! Piquet´s car is burning!

This is so mean! He was finally looking to get his first points and now, he will have to quit!

That´s just horrible. This talented young driver could finally get his first points, but now he´s out.

Adam Carroll still leading the Shanghai Grand Prix

Okay guys, I am unbelievable sorry! With two more laps to go suddenly 6 drivers went pitting again and they fell back to the end of the field. Then, in the final lap, 15 drivers went out of fuel and had to forfeit, 1 to 2 corners before the end. Only one driver managed to roll over the finish line with no more fuel while the 6 drivers that pitted finished. So in the end only 7 drivers finished, and I decided to make screenshots during the second last lap before pit stops. I don´t think, that anything would have changed during these two laps, so I hope everyone is fine, that I took these standigns as final results.

Congratulations to Adam Carroll and Super Nova Racing for winning the first ever GP2 Asia Cup!

So guys, Asia Cup is done. I hope you all enjoyed it and you are not too mad with me for posting so late and not beeing able to fix the pit-stop problem. I will try streaming this race next tuesday, stay tuned for the exact time, so you can all come and watch it.

On another note, I decided to expand the Pre-Season Test Sessions. Every circuit will now have two test days. Also, please note that the testing itself is for free, but sending data to your engine manufacturer costs money! So please tell me via PM, if you want to send your data to your manufacturer or not. Also choose if you want them to work on performance or reliability. For costs please see the first post again.
Last but not least, all teams have now gotten the new budget for the first season.
Coloni Motorsport

A good result for the team in Shanghai, with Bruni driving a solid race and scoring some points. Monfardini didn't really perform, but we hope he'll improve throughout the pre-season testing. Coloni will now prepare for the first test in Barcelona.
