ART Williams statement

Having heard of the new teamownership of former DPR-Racing and now DSR Racing team and their problem with a missing test driver, John Maverick immediately said to internet portal Sportsnet.bak:

They are indeed in a not so good situation. It's hard to find good drivers at this late point and it's not long anymore until the test sessions will start. We, in contrast, are in the situation of actually having a driver too much as we still have the option to let Bjorn Wirdheim from ART Williams drive for our team.
Having said this, we would be pleased to offer the services of either Marc Gene or Mathias Lauda to DSR Racing. If they are interested they are always welcomed to contact us.

Can i just clarify. Pre-season testing....do we only attend 2 of the 4 pre season tests? Pre season testing doesn't cost? unless you send data which is £250k? And do we choose between reliabilty or speed like in F1? Cheers
New website for DSR Racing

As every respected racing team, DSR has entered the virtual space. We are happy to announce that from now on www.wix.com/pycku87/dsr is our official website. We hope we will be able to upgrade it regularly, so that our fans keep informed what is happening in the team.

"We are starting this ambitious project because we owe it to the fans. There they will find all the information - news, stats, pictures from races, etc." said team owner D. Rangelov. A journalist asked him if the team is close to deal with a driver and who is he, if any.

"I said we will announce news when we have the news. Currently we are just talking and looking for possibilities. I can promise you that we will definitely start the GP2 season with 3 drivers. However, we may start the pre-season tests with what we've got up to now" - was the response of angered Rangelov.

Speculations say the team is negotiating with and for drivers like Neel Jani, Bas Leinders, Marc Gene, Mathias Lauda, Christian Albers, Patrick Friesacher and Vitantonio Liuzzi. Or at least some of them :)

As Pre-Season testing is for free, you do participate in all 4 tests (so your drivers can gain experience). And yes, it will only cost if you send data. Please note that you can only concentrate on reliability or speed if you send data, as all teams are using the same chassis. Therefor, the decision you make will affect all teams using the same engine as you do.
New driver for DSR Racing

News from the team are coming one after another like they are produced in a conveyer.

The result of what was thought to be a really fast negotiations is that DSR have signed contract with a new driver. Team owner Deyan Rangelov commented the news:

"We are really happy we could sign with such an experienced driver for 2005. It was really 12th hour bid and we were really racing against time, but I'm happy we managed to conclude the deal before Catalunya test. I want to thank John Maverick from ART Williams and mclarenaustralia from Renault for their seriousness on the matter. The driver told me he didn't really feel comfortable in his former team and he is glad to join DSR. So, I do believe we made a profitable deal for all the parties and there isn't anyone sad from the deal."

But who is the driver?! Up to now this was a secret just like who is the Stig. Now the mystery is over!

He is... MARC GENE!!!

Marc Gene: "I'm extremely happy to join DSR project from the very beginning. Mr. Maverick and I had some arguments about my performance so that I felt I should look for another team to drive. DSR offer came at the right time and I didn't think much before accepting it. To be honest, I want to thank Mr. Maverick and Renault board of directors for making no problems and allowed me to join DSR Racing."

Mr. Rangelov seemed a little worried. He explained "Now we have a new problem - 3 wonderful drivers and only 2 racing slots. I feel sorry for Nicolas Lappiere, but he has to accept his new role as a third driver. You don't expect me to pay so much for Gene if he is only to give advice outside the car, don't you? Marc Gene gets the second racing car which means he is to drive in Barcelona test days, but nothing is permanent. There are some testing sessions that are coming next so I'm thinking of a battle between all 3 DSR drivers. The 2 fastest will get the cars with #11 and #12, while the third one will have to wait for another opportunity. It is hard to make such decisions, but I promise everyone will get his chance to prove he is worthy."

ART-Williams comments the Marc Gene deal on their webpage

John Maverick:
"I confirm that ART today has re-loaned Marc Gene to DSR Racing. It is true that Marc and me had some little arguments about his performance, yet I'm sad that he needed to bring this into publicity, naming me the bad guy. Either way, when he heard of the DSR offer it was him who thought he'd be too god for this team and wanted to go. Knowing that a totally unmotivated driver would hurt the team, we had no option than selling him, for way less than we could have asked for under normal conditions."

"Furthermore this deal means that Bjorn Wirdheim from the Williams F1 team will fill Gene's slot as race driver while Matthias Lauda will remain the test driver for now. But every driver will get his chances during the season."

"And on a side-note, ART-Williams will not start yet with their new livery in Barcelona but at the second test days. The reason is simply that there are some sponsorship problems which prevent us from using the new livery already. But this will definitely be sorted out soon."

GPGSL : Team Owner of 'Maverick Track Performance' (MTP)
As this thread seems a little bit too silent, I've decided to paste you part of the interview with Nicolas Lapierre that he gave earlier today:

We sit on a small table in DSR motor home. Well, motor home maybe isn't the best description its just 2 refashioned old trucks. I saw third one parked behind them but I can only guess whats there as it is no allowed for journalists to enter there. Luckily we find some place on a small table and start our interview. We have started with some kindnesses and salutations and some jokes. You can't miss the fact that Lapierre isn't typical Frenchman - there's no sign of arrogance or superiority. Of course theres the typical French accent but this isnt pain in the ass. Hes 21 year old boy, who has just come one step before his dream becoming a Formula 1 driver. Lapierre seems a little nervous and confesses that he hasn't given much interviews so far. That's why I decide to start with some general questions.

Journalist: This year there is no French driver in Formula 1 but Frank Montagny, who is tester for Minardi and also races in GP2 series. Why is that crisis? Lack of talent, sponsors, interest, management or what?

Nicolas Lapierre: Its complex. You know, there was a program for young drivers, supported by the government, in the 70-es and 80-es. Then it stopped and now it is very hard for us. I don't think we have no talent, of course maybe were not as talented as Alain Prost. But still there are some very good French drivers Montagny, Pla, Premat, I would put myself into this group. So definitely there's talent and there's interest in this sport in France. But nowadays Elf doesn't support its program, neither the government give us money, so its hard. But no one of us is thinking about giving up. Maybe with a little more luck and some other sponsor and we will soon see our compatriot in F1.

Journalist: But you've just lost your regular place and now you will be just a test driver. And it seems you are not going to drive here in Barcelona?

NL: The situation changed dramatically over past few days. I signed a contract with David Price Racing, now we are Deyan Simeonov Rangelov Racing. But its not only the name that changed.

Journalist: Apart from that, what are the other changes in the team?

NL: One mechanic and 2 engineers from Bulgaria joined the team. They seem to be very qualified young specialists, although they have no experience in motor racing. And maybe the most important thing is that team spirit now is a way higher. Our previous boss had little if not any time for us, Ive saw him just twice after I signed the contract. He didn't even come to the Asia cup race. And we had no conversations whatsoever. On the other hand you can see Mr. Rangelov is here for this test day. Hes devoted to what he is doing and I'm sure he knows the name of everyone in the team. He likes to say that were a family and I think that step by step were going into that direction. Its too early for such prognosis, but I think were on the right way. Ive heard that the team bought some land in Bulgaria and a new factory is planned to be build there, so I can see our team owner full of ambition and I think he has the ability to achieve great things in this sphere.

Journalist: You said Rangelov is very ambitious man. And what are your ambitions for this season and for the future?

NL: I'm just 21 and I'm still learning. I think this year I must find for my place in the series. Next year Ill definitely be part of GP2 series again.

Journalist: With DSR?

NL: My contract is just for this year so I cannot say that. But my desire up to now is to stay. However, the season is long and a lot may happen.
I don't want to close the door for any good proposal.

You can see the full interview on DSR Racing official website.

Rosberg setting first fastest lap of the year
Today the GP2-Series Pre-Season finally started. It was an interesting session and in the end the german Nico Rosberg drove the fastest lap. His teammate Adam Carroll, who won the Asia Cup did only manage 11th, but that does not mean anything, as we are only talking about pre-season testing. Sauber GP2´s driver Heikki Kovalainen meanwhile managed 2nd, while his teammate Robert Doornbos drove the slowest lap. The new team, DSR Racing managed 10th and 18th, with new signed Marc Gene beeing the 18th. BCN Competition meanwhile showed a great performance as well, as Lyons finished 3rd and Sharp 4th.

@ginnerchris, RegularJohn and mogotron: Do you want to send in your collected data?

@everyone: Please submit your plans for all remaining Pre-Season Test Sessions as soon as possible. Thanks :)

Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/23/2011 10:09AM by Reve-san.
We'll send the collected data yes, and we'll stick with these two drivers for the next session, and continue to focus on speed.
Debut for DSR

Not quite good for a start, still this is only test and lap times don't matter. Congratulations to Nico Rosberg, definitely the favourite to win the series, according to our boss. Further press release will be given when the second test day is over.
We'll send the data and use Briscoe and Carroll for the next session, focusing on speed. Carroll didn't do bad, but I hope he will improve on these results. I'm expecting my drivers to be at the very top of that championship table by the end of the season!
ART Williams statement

We are pleased with Ide's performance. Mathias Lauda's performance was very crappy however. We thought him to be more motived after a race seat got free. As already registered, Bjorn Wirdheim will drive the second test day.

Our plan for the remaining test sessions goes like this:

Until further notice, Ide and Wirdheim will drive the cars.

Jerez:
Both days speed --> send data for both days.

Valencia:
Day 1: Reliability
Day 2: Speed
--> send data for both days.

Catalunya:
Day 1: Reliability
Day2: Speed
---> send data for both days.

Red Bull Racing Junior Press Release

Very happy with the results, we were again the fastest Renault powered car.

Wurz and Bernoldi will compete in all test sessions:

Jerez- Speed (both days)- Send data
Valencia- Speed (both days)- Send data
Catalunya- Reliability (both days)- Send data

GPGSL
Christel VXR: S12 onwards | Wins: 3 | Poles: 3 | Fastest Laps: 2
Considering how fast the F1 thread has got through their pre-season tests, what is the timetable for the forthcoming tests?

We have now firmed up our plans for the remaining sessions, and they are as follows:

1 - Catalunya
Day 2 - Pace - Kobayashi & Treluyer

2 - Jerez
Day 1 - Reliability - Kobayashi & Lopez
Day 2 - Reliability - Kobayashi & Treluyer (send data)

3 - Valencia
Day 1 - Pace - Lopez & Treluyer (send data)
Day 2 - Reliability - Lopez & Treluyer

4 - Catalunya
Day 1 - Pace - Kobayashi & Lopez
Day 2 - Pace - Kobayashi & Treluyer
Catalunya Day 2 Results
After finishing 5th in the first session Kamui Kobayashi this time tops the timesheet of the second day of Catalunya Test. Richard Lyons of BCN showed a great performance again, by managing second, while Racing Engineerings Benoit Tréluyer managed third. Red Bull Racing Jr. meanwhile had a difficult session, and both drivers didn´t get abotve 18th.
Both days in Catalunya were quite good, and the data the engine manufacturers received were really useful.

BTW, 3 Managers have already told their plans for the rest of the test sessions, and I would like to ask the remaining ones to do so as well, as Twigster set the pace really fast :)
Here are Super Nova's plans for the test sessions

Jerez
S1 - Pace - Rosberg & Briscoe
S2 - Reliability - Carroll & Briscoe

Valencia
S1 - Reliability - Rosberg & Briscoe
S2 - Pace - Carroll & Briscoe (Send Data)

Catalunya (Send data for both days)
S1 - Reliablity - Rosberg & Carroll
S2 - Pace - Rosberg & Carroll
