Round 8 Spain - Race

Hello and welcome once again to Catalunya, where after an exciting qualifying session, we are looking forward to the race action. The skies are once again cloudless, the pit girls have held their signs glamourously and the journalists have interviewed the celebs. It's all down to the racers now, and they look ready to begin!

We go down to the track, Tafuro is on pole and Vukcevic joins him on the front row. Between Tafuro and Zakes at the back, there are 20 other cars ready to fight their way to the top. 65 laps stands between one driver and victory.

We have 1 light, we have 2 lights, 3 lights, 4 lights, 5... Go! Go! Go! Terrific start from Vukcevic and he looks like he has the inside line for turn 1! Urazel also makes a very good start up to 3rd nearly 2nd, as does McGregor who jumps Jantsher (He is behind that sign, honest ;)). Jantsher could possibly lose more places to Copeman here... Antunis also doesn't do too well, he is already down to 9th.

Tafuro and Vukcevic are still side by side! Who will jump ahead? Urazel is still right behind them!

The italian and montenegran car have been side to side for 3 corners now, one of them has to give... The same for Jantsher and Copeman for 5th and 6th, one will have to concede!

An Tafuro folds! He dives behind Vukcevic for corner 4, not willing to risk going further backwards. Copeman still won't give in though!

Still side by side in 5th and 6th. Surely Jantsher must take it with the inside line of this corner? The top 4 have got a little gap from him now, they are very close to eachother however.

Finally Copeman accepts his 6th place. He won't have an easy day though, he has Heart, Maverick, Antunis and Vanthoor for very close company. Oh and a nice big helpful arrow incase any of the drivers forget which way to go... ;-)

Tafuro is through! He dives down the inside of Vukcevic into turn 10 and takes the lead. Urazel has a little sniff as Vukcevic runs a little wide, but the Montenegran driver recovers quickly enough. Tafuro now leads the race!

Maybe Antunis needed that arrow! He has gone off the track at turn 10, not a good first lap for the brazilian. Replays show he recieved a touch from a little too fast Vanthoor, very unlucky for Antunis.

He is forced to rejoin in 16th. Thats 10 places lost in his first lap. Oh dear...

For once in a blue moon, its not the leader setting the fastest lap on the first lap! Instead McGregor in 4th takes the first one of the day.

With Tafuro looking like he has driven off, Vukcevic, Burazel and McGregor are in very close company. Jantsher is also pretty close having pulled away from Copeman a little.

Championship leader Maverick looks eager to catch his championship rival and has a look at Heart of Canada. He will not get through this lap though.

Antunis is trying to work his way back up the field and has a look at Oakley into that fatal corner 10. And he makes it stick! Thats one places of the 10 he has gained back already, good move by him.

Replays show an earlier move, and its De Boer going backwards, Xanthis taking his place. Thats not good for De Boer amid rumours of a very important press conference for Team Netherlands after the race.

This time the fastest lap is done proper, 1st place car Tafuro easily beating that first lap time, but thats not really surprising is it ;-).

Antunis is really going for it! He is already attacking Hovarth down the starting straight, they are side by side heading into corner 1.

And Antunis makes another move stick. Thats 2 places in quick succession for the brazilian. He takes 14th, and thats puts Hovarth in 15th.

McGregor is really really close to Urazel there, maybe a little too close! The australian is trying really hard to get that 3rd place.

However the action is to be had wherever Antunis is today. He is side by side with yet another car, again into turn 1, this time the red car of Carreiro is the driver under attack.

Antunis makes that move stick again. This has been a really gutsy few laps from him, not resting on his laurels is he!

With barely half a lap gone, that plucky yellow, green and blue car has moved on to his nexts target. Stein is the car blocking Antunis' charge up the order at the moment, They are very close though.

Close enough for Antunis to be side by side again! They hare down the start straight together, is this 3 passes in 3 laps at this corner?

No no not this time. This time is does not work so well as Stein defends really well to keep that 12th place.

Oakley is following the action by example, he is all over the back of Hovarth infront of him.

Finally some time to look more towards to top runners. Vukcevic has opened a decent gap back to Urazel, while McGregor is facing a little pressure from Jantsher for 4th.

I don't really need to tell you who it is do i? Only 4 laps into this race and Antunis has already tried more overtaking manoeuvres than i can count. Its turn 10, against Stein.

However Oakley sees his chance to shine a little here, really forcing Hovarth to go very defensive. ahead of them Antunis doesn't make it past Stein.

Oakley doesn't make it through either, perhaps not an overtaking lap this one. Some good fights down near the bottom though.

Someone forgot to tell De Boer that though, as he exacts revenge on Xanthis. Very clean, very smooth.

Getting a quick glimpse of the leader inbetween the action, he has opened a very respectable gap back to Vukcevic.

Antunis is nearly in that car with Stein, he is dancing all over the back of him! Im surprised the havent collided!

He has yet another go into turn 10, does Antunis. He is very persistent isn't he?

He doesn't make it, it seems 13th place is a bit of a sticking point for his what was a rather fast charge.

Tafuro has no wish to hang about and let Vukcevic catch up, he is driving off with another fastest lap.

Maverick tries to put himself further into the points, but his Switzerland car can't get him passed the stubborn Canadian car that Heart is driving.

Barely 6 laps into this race, Tafuro has already stretched out a gap of over 5 seconds over Vukcevic, thats nearly a second a lap!

Maverick won't give up though, he has an attempt down the inside of Heart into turn 10.

But he hits Heart! The canadian car spins right in the middle of the track! No-one can get passed him as he sits so they all wait til he recovers to carry on driving.

Heart holds his 7th place, but he has a massive queue of cars formed behind him now, although everyone in the same order as before the spin. Antunis seems to be ahead of Stein...

BUUUUUT its time for a nice long break, we will let you find out about Antunis and Stein a little bit later ;)

Bye!

Round 8 Spain - Race Part 2

Welcome back, welcome back! Ready to continue to adventures of team Brazil? Oh and every other driver of course ;)

Back on track we have a replay showing how Antunis finally managed to overcome Stein. Fine dive down into turn 1, same as before, grabs him a 12th place finally!

We have another replay to show you as De Boer may well have heard me about that press conference? He is driving forward and takes the English car of Oakley, good move.

Annnnd yet another replay! Hunsley for South Africa making it past Paddock into 10th place in turn 1. Seems a popular place to overtake today!

After that massive queue because of Heart, Hovarth, Stein and De Boer all are ontop of eachother. De Boer looks to be the one trying to make up places.

But he can't get anywhere in such a tight corner. All those cars are basically nose to tail, such the congestion on that track at the moment!

Maverick takes a turn of receiving pressure rather than giving it. Vanthoor is slightly less aggressive in his attempt to pass and no spin this time for either driver.

But that does not stop De Boer who is also on a charge. He makes it past yet another car, this time the stripy car of Hovarth. He does now have the defensive wall of Stein in front of him now.

Yoshimoto, who has been very quiet so far, takes a look at Xanthis. That corner is not an ideal place for that however.

McGregor is getting close to Urazel in this rather stylish shot. One of the cars does look slightly sideways, but i can promise you they are both straight ;-).

The same cannot be said for "Defensive wall" Stein. He has gravelled his car at turn 12, that has ruined his chance of a high order position completely.

The German rejoins the track in 18th, and with Yoshimoto, Ward, Zakes and Razak very close behind him.

They are almost 3 wide going into corner 1! Zakes tries to take Ward who was trying to take Yoshimoto. This can only end badly...

And it does for Zakes and Ward! The two cars touch and spin, but no damage to either car luckily.

Zakes gets out the gravel first to take 21st, whilst Ward is slower, and is last. Not a good st patricks day really...

Antunis is passed Paddock! He has made his way undetected passed Paddock of New Zealand and he is already attacking Hunsley for his 10th place! That's half the places made up by Antunis.

Once again the brazilian can only wait til turn 1, where he simply powers the car passed Hunsley. This is easy for Antunis, thats 10th place.

Hunsley is then immediately on the defensive again trying to protect himself from Paddock who looks to take advantage of this situation.

Oh dear thats very harsh by Hunsley! Paddock looks to go round the outside of Hunsley by the south africa moves across suddenly and clips Paddock. The back of the car is wobbling...

And he can't keep it on the track... He spins out and has to wait for a sensible gap to rejoin.

Unfortunately for him that gap is all the way down in 20th, thats a big loss for Paddock and very unfortunate.

Yoshimoto very nearly looses his car! He gets it terribly wrong in that final chicance and is lucky not to collect anyone or a wall. He can rejoin the race in 19th, 2 places lost.

Hovarth has still got Oakley all over his back. The englishman has yet to find a way passed yet, although from that close behind him it wont really work...

Tafuro really has driven off now and looks unlikely to be caught... He has broken through the 10 second lead barrier, and is continuing to build on it.

Whats this? Its a big move as McGregor is finally close enough to make a move on Urazel into turn 1! And he has enough speed! Good move by Nathan McGregor to earn himself a 3rd place!

Tafuro could afford to sleep or stop off for an italian meal right now... He is the only car in sight down the main straight.

Not the same for the cars near Antunis! He had been too quiet for too long and finally pops up again. He grabs another position this time from Vanthoor. Its once again in turn 1 though, sublime.

This guy just does not give up passing cars does he? Another lap another car, Maverick is his next target, and this ones for points! He not as close as he was last lap...

But since when has that stopped him? Naturally he takes the move and he is back into the points again. This drops Maverick out of them, and based on Copemans current position, out of the championship lead.

De Boer tries to follow suit with a look at Carreiro. But hang on, he blazes past Carreiro with ease, something looks up in the Portugese car...

Oh dear, terrible luck for Carreiro as we get our first retirement for the day. Thats a transmission problem which has stopped that car at turn 4.

From stopped cars to aggressive ones. Xanthis is looking to regain some place previously lost. He tries to start with Oakley but doesn't really get anything out of it.

Having taken 3rd from Urazel, McGregor is a little way back from Vukcevic. Not uncatchable though, by a long way.

Antunis seems born to drive this track or something... He is going for yet another place. This time he is going for 7th place at turn 1, but Heart is blocking his way.

And Heart very quickly shuts the door on that move. Not this time round for the brazilian.

He has yet another look going into turn 4, but very sensibly opts out of trying. Maverick seems to have dropped a little from Heart.

They are close! Coming up that back straight towards turn 10 they are very close! Maybe this time for Antunis?

Yes! He claims yet another place in this extraordinary driver of his. Really good move. He is now 7th, having starting the day in 6th, just 1 place left to gain.

But you will have to see whether he can gain that one place tomorrow, so watch some commercials or something? Im sorry guys but the commentators need sleep ;).

I will post the rest up for you to read tomorrow!

G'night
WHAT!?! tomorrow???

i'm here biting my nails off and you ask me to wait until tomorrow?! :-O

hahahaha, but seriously... what a race for me and Team Brazil, and that's 20 laps or so... can't wait to see the rest of it...

-------------------------------------------
yeh sorry sorry but i was nearly asleep at the keyboard, not good ;-)

You will have your coverage very soon, so just try not to destroy your nails too much before then ;)

Round 8 Spain - Race Part 8

Welcome back to our coverage! You must be ready for the race if you are reading this, sorry about the big delay in our coverage but as they say "every good race has a 24 hour pause in it...". They do say that don't they? ;)

Anyway back to the most important feature, the race. As we go back to the track, we see the size of the gap Tafuro has opened up over Vukcevic. It has broken the 15 second barrier now and the italian is cruising.

The pit stops have begun! Urazel is the first driver to pit from 4th place. Its tight so all drivers will need a good stop to keep their places.

He comes out into 17th place just ahead of Yoshimoto. Thats with noone else pitting of course so Urazel will inevitably gain places back.

His outlap has not been too good though. Yoshimoto is really attacking the turkish driver, but he can't make it through at turn 10.

Tafuro is in! The leader pits from 1st place, hoping this will all run smoothly... Where will he come out due to that massive gap he had to 2nd.

The answer is 3rd. Compared to others drivers he really hasnt dropped back that far, it shows how much he is dominating here.

This leaves Vukcevic to enjoy the lead for a bit, it can't last as he needs to pit though. Jantsher is a little back in 2nd place, he is also yet to make his stop though.

Jantsher has put in some very good laps in the clean air he had in 2nd! Between him and his engineers they have done a very impressive job. He is above Urazel and has taken 4th place in the stops.

Another person to profit from the pitstops is Antunis, who obviously put in some very impressive laps. He is now right on the back of the next car in line, Copeman of USA.

Maverick has found himself up in 2nd! He has Vukcevic for very close company though. The 1st stop window must be shut by now so what is Maverick doing not pitting? This is very odd...

McGregor keeps his old place, well save for Maverick not pitting, he would still be in 3rd place.

This really has to be credited as a stunning drive. Antunis has pulled himself passed yet another car and this time he makes in passed Copeman. It wouldn't be anywhere else but turn 1 would it?

Vukcevic is clearly not ready to wait for Maverick to pit, if he ever does. He is side by side with the swiss driver! Both teams must be praying for no collision...

And he makes it, quite clearly with a superior car today, Vukcevic has earned his 2nd place back well.

Further down De Boer finds himself in 12th with a very impatient Hunsley right behind him. Hunsley looks into turn 10...

Nothing doing, De Boer shuts the door. This fighting means the pair are dropping back from Hovarth infront of them rather quickly...

You have to cheer when this happens, because its barely happened all day. Vukcevic goes faster than Tafuro in a sector!

Maverick, with his for some reason 1 stopping car is dropping like a rock away from Vukcevic after being passed, he is clearly not in the position his car is ready for. But he looks to be pitting! 30 laps in Maverick takes his pit stop. Unless he does a splash and dash at the end, this is a 1 stopper.

Once again Hunsley is looking to gain positions into turn 10, however once again De Boer defends very well.

Maverick pits and comes out 10 places further down, in 13th place. I make that everyone has made their stop finally?

That makes its time for some after stop standings, and well basically half way standings. We are also onboard with a very lonely Tafuro at the front:

So with everything settled and sorted, McGregor has his 3rd place back. Stops mean he is a big 8 seconds away from him though and doesn't look to be decreasing it.

Down in 16th place, Razak is looking to take the fight to Xanthis. He, like many before him, decides that he can't do that is turn 4. Rather smart.

He is still very close though, and that doesn't stop him trying into turn 10! Its very close...

But he makes it! That's 15th place for Razak, Oakley and Maverick lie ahead. Xanthis just seems to be going backwards today.

He has been a little quiet hasn't he. Now that he has gained his 6th place back he could have stopped? But no, thats not the idea for Antunis. He is all over the back of Urazel in 5th place.

He still behind him, but he is still very close, ready to make his move somewhen.

These 2 aren't the only two scrapping. Hunsley is still trying to force his way past De Boer, but nope not this time.

Antunis is ready to have a go now! But thats some fine defensive work by Urazel, keeping that brazilian car behind him.

That im afraid to say is an example of how not to try and overtake. Hunsley may have got a little frustrated by his efforts so far and he drivers into the back of De Boer in turn 10, the dutch driver is forced to go wide...

Hunsley is through, taking 11th place from team Netherlands. De Boer doesn't go too wide and manages to bring to car back right behind Hunsley again.

I'm sorry to say Urazel bt you do not keep Antunis at bay for long! He gains another place and moves up to 5th place, fine move. That is 11 places gained since his spin, although his next target is a good 10 seconds up the road, and its Jantsher...

Jantsher who seems to be closing in on that australian car infront of him, who himself is hovering about 8 seconds back from Vukcevic, not really closing that gap.

Thats a bit too close for comfort for Yoshimoto. Paddock is having a peek up the inside from 19th, he can't make anything stick though.

Stein is looking to pile on more misery for Xanthis down at the bottom, but chooses a bad place to do it. Xanthis easily shuts the door.

The 2nd pit windows opens with Vanthoor diving into the pits, from 8th position. The telemetry flashes as loads of drivers are ready to pit around now. Well Maverick obviously isnt.

As Vukcevic joins the early rush of pitstops, McGregor has a short while in 2nd place. If the gap between Vukcevic and Tafuro was large, the gap between McGregor and Tafuro is massive.

Away from the pitstops, a yet to pit Stein and a yet to pit Xanthis are still fighting. Stein looks once again, but Xanthis is holding really firm this time.

Im very sorry but you guys will have to suffer another commercial break ;). No no not 24 hours this time, just a short one whilst the next part of the coverage is cut and put up ;-)

Thanks!
Round 8 Spain - Race Part 4

See very quick commercial break, we like to mix it up for you guys ;)

Race race race... Just before we left we saw Xanthis defending heavily from Stein. It seems perhaps a little too heavily, as they collide! Stein locks up massively.

Xanthis goes very very wide after that collision, using rather a lot of that big red section outside turn 10.

Stein is not so lucky! He spins after locking up and has to sit on the outside of that turn and wait for the cars to pass him. Remember he is yet to pit so he could be way back.

He rejoins in 19th position, behind Hunsley, who yes has pitted.

Xanthis on the other hand gets off rather lightly from his overdefensiveness. He drops down to just 14th place, right infront of Ward though.

Whats this? Tafuro near another moving object? His lonely days are over as he has caught up with the back of the field, giving him some back markers to play with. One of those being the unfortunate Hovarth of Hungary who Tafuro is closing on.

Vukcevic is enjoying what is rather an empty piece of track around him during this pit time, as he is down in 5th place after pitting.

These pitstops have put Jantsher up to 2nd behind Tafuro, although the italian is also yet to pit.

An Old battle revived! McGregor comes out of the pits in 6th behind Urazel who he fought with earlier. Urazel will submit into the pits somewhen though.

Tafuro is in for his final stop of the day! This doesn't really need to be superb from the italian crew does it? He is just that far ahead.

A whole pitstop ahead infact. He drivers through, stops, drives out and still maintains his lead. Complete control from Tafuro.

Having found himself in 8th place after his stop, Antunis finds himself some more drivers to fight with, and he doesn't hold back. This one really does mean something though as both Antunis and Maverick won't pit again. Not this time for the brazilian.

But he is really close behind, i don't think he could get closer! Oh and Stein is in the pits.

We have the first back marker lapped! Unfortunately for the neutrals its in the pits as Tafuro drives along the start straight past Stein (far left). Bit boring way of passing?

Lets face it, it was inevitable wasn't it? Turn 1 once again, where else would it be. Antunis cruises easily past a slow Maverick, and takes back 5th place.

In his intent search of more back markers to lap, Tafuro looks to complete the treble as he sets another fastest lap. Thats the only title of this weekend that is in any doubt really.

But Antunis fights back against Tafuro! Maybe in an effort to gain recognition for his stunning day, Antunis sets the fastest lap above Tafuro. As we casually observe the gravel...

Tafuro is onto the back markers once again, this time he as Ward and Xanthis right infront of him. That would really cap off their days.

Back markers or no back markers that gap is still growing. Vukcevic is now over 20 seconds down on first place. Only a miracle could hand him the victory now.

As Tafuro makes his way on his first actual lapping of the day of Ward, Antunis another fastest lap. He is really rather quick today.

At the same time, McGregor is now over 10 second back from Vukcevic in 2nd. that position seems secure aswell. Although Jantsher is lurking rather close...

Another one down at the back, this time its Xanthis who is a lap down. Really sums up his day today, not a great one.

And its not long before he's also passed Zakes of Madagascar. These guys aren't slowing Tafuro's drive one bit.

A quick standings check with just 10 laps of this race left:

As we finish that standings check, Tafuro crusises easily past Paddock, he's lapped up to 17th place now and is cutting through them quickly.

Oh no disaster for Hovarth! Its another transmission problem today and thats the 2nd retirement. He wasn't going to score points but its always nice to finish.

May seem a strange thing showing you the overlappings but thats pretty much all the action out there right now. Yoshimoto is the next victim of Tafuro.

Jantsher (ie that big sign) is rather close to McGregor now, could he spring a surprise in the last few laps?

Maverick is falling backwards at the moment, as Urazel pulls a fine move going into turn 1, to take 6th place. Lets be fair that swiss car hasn't been particularly fast with that one stopper.

Razak has also been lapped by Tafuro as he shows off his vastly superior car.

Zakes pulls a very impressive and very slick move down at the tail end to get himself up to 17th. Small bit of joy for him. But hang on Razak is pitting again, it seems he has some sort of technical issue? It seems he is suffering with an electrical problem and has to pit to sort it out. He rejoins the race, but in plumb last.

But not just into a big gap, he comes out of the pitlane right behind McGregor in 3rd place, that could cause a problem for Jantsher to get past.

Clash of the titans into turn 1! Copeman looks to go past Maverick into the turn, pretty much the same in the official standings. That move is crucial as it means that USA and Switzerland would be level on points! Maverick has no speed what so ever to defend his position.

Razak is causing all sorts of problems for McGregor! The lapped back marker decides to try and overtake the australian in turns 10/11 and that means that Jantsher is suddenly very very close.

Back at the front, Tafuro is making his way through that final chicane for the very last time...

Paulo Tafuro wins the Spanish Grand Prix! He had a poor start but recovered very quickly to retake the lead. Once he was ahead he never looked like losing that lead and he has had an outstandingly dominant driver today.

Mirko Vukcevic crosses the line in 2nd place. He got a very good start but wasn't able to hold off a fast Tafuro. However his 2nd place also never looked in doubt as he held a very good steady pace.

Nathan McGregor manages to hold on to his position and takes the final step on the podium. Very good start to gain him one place, and a very good overtake to gain him the other. Good performance.

And there you have it, the race is finally over!
Congratulations to Paolo Tafuro of Italy!. That was a very very good drive and really earnt the victory

Special mention also goes to Felipe Antunis of Brazil. If there was a driver of the day performance, this man would definately have earnt it. A very gutsy drive and some fantastic overtakes to recover from a spin made an amazing drive for him. Probably deserved more than 5th, but 5th is very solid.

Full results will indeed follow!

Thank you for following our coverage all the way through, hope it wasn't too draw out once again ;)

Bye!
Official race results:

Current championship positions/points remaining

Once again well done to all drivers, and sorry if anyone is annoyed by the order of drivers who are on same points, ie John and Chris. But lets face it your equal at the moment and you can tell, it may/will be sorted for future tables ;-).

and now we wait for the Team Netherlands official press conference which was annouced yesterday.

Thanks

2nd will do, 2nd will do very nicely indeed on the Montenegro side of things. Im a bit disappointed Tafuro made it through and then drove off into the distance though. still 2nd is nice.

On a side note, Felipe that was some damn fine overtaking ;), just incase you didnt get that view from my commentating

On another side note, there is a new table on page 1. It contains full positions listings, points, perf balance remaining etc, no more searching through every post if you want that info, head to page 1 now!

i would probably fight for the victory if wasn't for Vanthoor ;)
but i still had fun in the race and 5th is not that bad...

four points behind the championship leader and i'm still in the fight... hope to be until the end...

-------------------------------------------
Gosh, I hoped so much that I wouldn't be that one stopper... ;-)
But there you see that at normal tracks it doesn't bring you very much of an advantage. It was horrible to see all these cars overtaking me without being able to do ANYTHING against it.

And Paolo: Very good driving, though you're also way down the remaining perf points. This could turn against you later in the season ;)

Chris: I'm glad that it is that close between us right now. It looks to become an interesting season :-)

Yeh i considered telling you it was you before i posted the race John, but decided that would ruin the suspence of it, and wheres the fun in that ;)

On the other hand, as one of those overtaking drivers, i can honestly say it was good to be able to drive past you with ease.

I agree it is rather close, and that can only be good for future races?

Again showing I have the pace if the car keeps running. That is my second podium of what should have been 6 podiums.

First retirement in the race. Well... At least we were first in something... :)

-----------------------------------------------------

I was just flicking through the results and there were a few things i noticed, you might not care but i shall post anyway ;-)

-Maverick leads the championship but has never won a race...
-Maverick, Vukcevic and Jantsher either finish in the points, or not at all.
-Copeman has never retired from any race so far.
-Tafuro, McGregor, Yoshimoto and Carreiro have only gained points from podiums, never from 4-8th place.
-Hovarth, Jantsher and McGregor have retired more than anyone else, 4 time.

Sorry ignore anyone who read this bottom part, just read something harj put after the race about greece having no owner.

Thanks

Great coverage :)

A great race with some good overtaking from Team NED, however we weren't able to transfer it into a point finish like Brazil did. Guess we need to focus on the next race!

Press conference will not be held off for long now, TBH just waiting on a new page ;) ;)

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!
