Thanks Laurent, I hope someone can give me an example of what i need to be looking for, I'd rather be looking at Max's viewport than a wall of confusing text.
I don't fancy reverse engineering magic data.

here i post a cmagic4.ini file for the lines laurent mentioned (angle and position).
around there are some more new and unk values. maybe someone can hopefully find out some more secrets.

Holy @#$%&!...see what I mean, thanks matt those are very helpful it will save me a lot of trial and error, but magic data needs a new interface.
Why is there no easier - to - understand UI for magic data ?

You can import track cameras from other tracks into your dat file.

Seems that your last camera has a sector value in the box "View car to sector" which doesn't exist.

I can also take a look at your dat file if the above isn't clear enough.

Just to confirm, there's no way to move the cars position from side to side ? They are actually positioned too near the middle of the garage, as compared to real life scale.
I'd like to move each of the cars in a single garage closer to the external walls, creating a bigger central gap between the cars.

thx

Here's a visual of the problem.....not a biggie, but would it be nice to reposition them.

You can see om this 2010 garage, that the cars are much closer to the sides.

Editing these values is having no effect for me, are you sure desc90 and desc93 control the position and angle ?
I loaded the magic data from Monaco into my dat, and the cars position moved forward, so the positions must be in another value ?

desc91= new (dw)Car Position in Garage
desc92= new (dw)Car Position in Garage
desc93= new (dw)Car Angle in Garage

For me both desc91 and 92 affect the depth position, and 93 the angle, I've just spent 4 hours testing values and can't find anything that affects the sideways positioning.
I'll edit the garage layout to fit the car position...it's easier.

Hi guys!

I'm a beginner in track editing, but I've learnt the basics from the 60 mins tutorial and the F1 Virtual step-by-step guides. I managed to get together a Monza 1971 beta (kind of like Pedro's betas of the Österreichring and Interlagos from the '70s). It's nice, the layout is precise, made based on Google Maps, only a few meter short of the real track length back then. It's awesome, really the king of the slipstream. : D There are a few things to do though, real pitlane, the asphalt run-off at Vialone, etc.

I don't have a problem with the pitlane, or the CC-line, the tough stuff got going well.

I have an annoying problem though: I chose 'Track from .dat' to make the mesh, and conversion went well, except for the tarmac. It showed a constant brownish surface at first, nothing for the second try (really funny to fly basically : D), and the brown texture for the third time as well. Meanwhile, I can see the original 2001 layout and pitlane below me with proper texture and stuff. Strange. I also set the banks to be tarmac, and it shows up there correctly. My new pitlane also shows up correctly. I used the X-mas edition of GP4 Builder, which felt a bit buggy, but this is another thread. I don't know if it has to do with it or not.

Sadly, I'm a total newbie in track making, so I really don't know where to go from here with this problem.

+ Related question: does it mess up CC-line to make the S/F straight 24-meter wide as it was in 1971 with wild changes in left and right track width?

Thanks in advance for your replies. :)

Alright, I forgot to build .bin files, amateur error.

Now I got something, I REALLY cannot solve alone: when I want to have a slight banking (under the old oval), the track responds nicely to my input in Track Profiler, but the onboard cams can't seem to follow the car down. I get a top view for that few secs while the dip lasts in the track.

Any idea?

you forgot to build .col file, amateur error ;)

edit : You will have to check if CC-line is working or not with such heavy changes. If it doesn't work correctly, you can try Action\Equalize Sector Centers. Make a copy of your work before doing it, we never know and this feature can't be cancelled.

edit2 : and BTW, this is the general thread for GP4Builder bug reports or as there's still a fresh thread for it, you can use this thread

Thank you very much Laurent, it was indeed as simple as creating a .col file.

I have yet another question.

I made a .dat (in fact modified an original, but was not the source of the problem in earlier and similar cases), then created .wad via 'Track from .dat' option.

When I try it ingame, it crashes while it loads.

The problem is with the conversion from .dat to .wad, because I tested the .dat alone with the original .wad and everything was fine.

What's wrong this time? (I sincerely hope it's another easy thing to solve.)

Please help. Thank you in advance.

I'm using GP4 Builder 1.705.

Edit:

- It's not the kerbs. I heard kerbs conversion is quite difficult to do, so I tried a conversion without kerbs, and one where I pre-deleted all kerbs from .dat itsself.
- It's not GP4 Builder 1.705. Or at least 1.540 behaves the same way.
- I modified Suzuka. (Restored 1982 layout.) Could it be down to the figure 8 of the track?

Anyone? :(
