The Official 2009 Japanese Grand Prix Thread ***SPOILERS***

i didnt knew that Fernando was one of those who has to go to the stewards. i just saw the sector times and saw he was slow so i thought he slowed up. So Sorry to all of you.

"And thats the bottom line cause Alonso0506 said so"
He did slow, but only coming up to 130R. The BBC played his onboard lap after Q3 I think it was, and he was flatout throughout the yellow flag zone, as was Button, Barrichello, and I think Sutil (all 3 of who set times on that lap), and possibly others, though they may have backed off approaching 130R, like Alonso.

The problem Villeneuve had was that they were double yellow flags, meaning he had to be prepared to stop. This was a single yellow flag, meaning 'reduce speed and be prepared to change direction'.

Given that it was essentially a straight and the lesser in severity of the 2 yellow flags I've a feeling that they'll just get reprimands... but my own view is that they should get penalties.

Funky, funky session though. Very odd.
5 place drop for Alonso, Barrichello, Button, Sutil and Buemi has been given a reprimand and a 5 place drop.
Car weights, with I think how they will line up (Heikki's taken a 5 place penalty for a gearbox change).

Fair penaltys... Again looking at the weights, I do wonder why the hell Brawn left it so late when everyone was quicker on the second lap :s! It just seemed they were doing everything they could to make it harder! Now for tomorrow Button and Rubens are in a posistion where everyone around them is much better off. They will have to overtake tomorrow! Could make for some good viewing I hope!

edit - Gav,I thought Heikki after his 5 place drop would be in a Brawn sandwhich? After the first penalty's he was 6th i think, then a 5 place drop would put him in between Rubens and Jense I think...

Glock of course unlikley to race...

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL

Yup, presumably his replacement penalty will come into effect after the ignoring yellow penalties, while I just demoted them all together.
Hope safety car will come out so those who got 5 place penalty can gain. Anyways that a quite light penalty for them. They should put on the back of the grid. All of them!

Glock's accident was weird, watching the onboard footage. That's some powerful understeer... :S

Crazy session. Crazy weekend in general...think this race could be quite "funky" too, as gav puts it.
Yeah, Its look like his car was not responding at him at all.

Timo's crash was similar to Senna's Fatal accident.

Rosberg will be absolutely delighted to find himself there after all those penalties! A saving grace for Williams, who had a dreadful session by the looks of things.

@ Gav, just to be clear, the five-place grid penalty is 'absolute' rather than 'relative'. So for example, Rubens qualified 5th in the session - his absolute penalty is to drop 5 places, so he starts 10th, irrespective of other drivers behind him also incurring penalties. In effect, think of it as the penalised drivers being given "set" grid positions, and then everyone else moving up to fill the gaps as necessary.

Never mind Rosberg, Vettel must be dancing on the roof of the Red Bull truck! He needed something special to keep himself in the game, and not only does he get pole, Barichello and Button get shoved back five places.

The problem I see with everybody getting the same penalty is that it is a bit unfair. Alonso slowed more when he saw Buemi and that ruined his possibilities of getting into Q3. The others did not. The lesson one gets is: next time be sure to run flat. You may get a penalty, but you will get at least 2 positions for free. Anyway I don't want to justify Alonso. He probably did wrong.

In my opinion, it would be have been fair to delete the lap time of all the involved. Those who got into Q3 with that lap time should be repositioned with their Q2 previous time + 5 positions penalty. Only if their previous times were OK to run into Q3, I would allow them to maintain their Q3 places (+penalty).
I can see where you're coming from, but Alonso still broke the rules. Fairer might have been to remove the times of the offenders and demote them 5 places, but that might not be open to the stewards.

I feel more sorry for the likes of Kubica, who did slow and was then compromised by Buemi in the final chicane too, failing to get a chance to get into Q3.
Button will DNF tomorrow

I hope Trulli wins to secure Toyota's future.

That would be a very good thing to happen, but it's a real mountain to climb, he's running pretty light comparatively, one thing is that KERS isn't such a big threat here. So yeah, if he keeps his head down, and gives it 100% for the whole race, the pit crew nail all the stops, and some other things go his way,it could happen.

yes, but you can probably rely on Red Bull to screw something up! ;) If he has any chance he will need to be no worse than 2nd after the first lap.

Also, Autosport is now saying that the grid still isn't final (as it depends on whether gearbox or yellow flag penalties go first), but will be finalised on Sunday morning.

guess the FIA rules turned out to be too complex for the FIA people

errr??? gearbox should go after seeing as its getting changed after quali.
