Surley this isnt the way to go :(

F1 politics eh? A bunch of stuborn kids the lot of them!

btw, Ferari, RBR, STR are apparently legal binded to F1. What happens now with them? Can they just simply not turn up and refuse to pay any fine incurred? I mean, this is going to sound very silly of me (your used to it by now!) but who can force them to pay a fine?

Not the way to go at all, and although this has been threatened on and off for some years now, it's still a shock that it's got this much closer now.
I can see the possible exciting aspects of it, but the main priority right now has to be to safeguard F1's immediate future.
At least we should have some great analysis from the BBC this weekend.

technically those three teams that are contracted can just enter some crappy car, that has 5HP and just go around the circuit in 25 minutes, with no sponsors or branding.

the fia will then just have to dq them and that's that, send 2 team members, they set up the car and drive it themselves.

bernie and the fia will probably sue for bringing the sport into disrepute or something.

alternatively they can just build a car that fails the crash test, then the fia and bernie no ground to stand on if they can't build a safe car to compete.

i've always seen max as a cancer on the sport, always trying to bring it down, his intentions may have been good, but it has hurt the sport too much.

the budget cap was way too low, they should have made it 125mil, as the lowest funded team gets around 80mil, then bring down by 10mil a year. he's just been too stubborn, like me, i can't be bothered to capitals right now, and that's damaged the sport.

for me, there hasn't been anyone to replace max or bernie, and lets be honest, they are getting on a bit, and stuck in their ways, they just can't see clearly anymore.

for me, f1 lost some of its sparkle last year, and this year, although its nice to see small teams get a chance at the front, but it doesn't have that grandeur of ferrari versus mclaren, you know the big boys going at it.

we'll just have to wait and see where this goes...

ps, even if fia and bernie threaten to sue, they all can just fail the crash tests, that's the easiest way out i believe

tick tock, there still over 20 hours for FIA to respond/extend the deadline

'It has become clear however, that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.'

to a simpleton like me it would seem that the teams are still (conditionally) entered for 2010 so let's see what tomorrow brings

If they do indeed quit F1 I'd like to see some Le Mans entries or the use of some classic venues that they'd definitely be running, like Montréal, Le Mans, Silverstone and so on!

Mosley's hours as FIA president are counted, he will resign or the Board will remove him, extend the deadline and come to an agreement next week

as far as Bernie goes, hmmm, no wonder why he didn't wanted anything to go public

what do you bet prodrive sign up for the FOTA championship, then we get the likes of manor and campos pulling out their entrys as 'F1 is caput', then theres a big u-turn, the budget cap is amended, and suddenly prodrive are on the F1 grid for 2010...because manor and campos withdrew!

That press release is basically an elaborate way of saying, "We've talked for 4 hours, nobody quite knows what's going on, so here are some mixed messages and rumours for the press to jump on."

hopefully this doesn't happen, as i think it would damage the sport. however, it would certainly be interesting to see what they could come up with for a series.

This sounds like some dark humour but imagine Donnington's situation.

I believe the term is 'oh f@%$!!!' - but i could be wrong.

If this FOTA Series does go ahead then there is no way both teams can survive together. F1 has the TV money coming in already, FOTA Series would have the fan base, the drivers, the teams, everything really.......

I hope for the sake of F! though that this gets sorted, don't want F! to become a second rate series along with Formula 2 ;)

Well when you think about it a series run by the teams makes perfect sense.

By cutting out the middle man (Bernie), the teams themselves will recieve all the money from TV deals, meaning they will make a profit, and then wont charge the circuits exorbitant fees to host the race (welcome back Silverstone, Montreal). New teams will be able to enter because the FOTA series would actually be a viable business for them.

And I havnt even got onto the teams being able start a new rule book themselves from scratch.

If this series gets launched and the team bosses themselves will govern it, then it will collapse quickly. Now, all the teams have the same enemy: the FIA. That's what unites them, it's that and only that. The teams put aside their personal interests in order to fight that enemy together. Once that enemy is no longer there, personal interests come back and then the FOTA series will be impossible to govern.
