I think the FIA have horrendously missed the point here.
Bernie has always said, "Put the onus on wins and we will see more battles for race victory," and it seems like the FIA have lapped it up as a good thing.
However, if I were to turn it around and say, "Put the onus on wins and we'll see less battles throughout the rest of the field, because it is much less important than it used to be," then suddenly it doesn't seem like a particularly clever idea.
Bonus for 1st place means:
- Battle for position 1 is more intense;
- Battle for 19 other positions is less intense.
To me, that seems like levelling a rainforest to plant a tree.
