Bernie says he wants excitment, he wants people to fight for the last points...

Apparently he missed Spa last year... Where Lewis risked a move but oh wait he got peanalized for fighting for the win to the line. (Y)

For the most globally recognized sport in the world it sure is run by a bunch of t*ssers!

thats a very good point, i hadn't thought of that(though clearly neither have the FIA).

So last race showdowns will now rely on drivers being either equal on race wins or one win ahead or behind the others? Surely that's a negative for the sport and for Bernie's precious TV audience.

I can see a lot of team orders tbh.

Say Kimi wins the 1st 3 races and then someone else wins 2 but massa has not won a race and is only 2 points behind. He could be told sorry Massa we have to support kimi as we are 5 races in and you have not won.

See what I mean though.

You could be in a situation where Kimi wins 3 races and retires from 2 (30 points) and Massa finishes 2nd every time (40 points), yet Massa has to yield as he isn't winning races. Crazy.

a very good point, this will only add more and more politics, and stewards will be dishing out penalties glor with drivers/teams claiming the move was unjust and maybe done intentionally Even if it wasn't what else is driver B suppose to do, take a risky move that might pull off, take a risky move and you push Driver A off or take yourself out even put you both out.
Whatever happens = penalties = Fcuked off fans = Favortisum claims etc

Btw. James Allen sums it up nicley

"I think we’ll have to see how this one evolves. In an evenly matched season like last one, Massa and Hamilton were only one win apart and the same was true in 2007 with Raikkonen.

However a dominant year is a dominant year and the guy on top wins whatever the points system"

The problem now though is, if a driver is dominating enough for it not to look ambiguous under this system, it'll take all the excitement out of the championship fight. If the fight is close, there'll be misrepresentations/injustices done to the contenders and some confusion for us. Either way, we're snookered.

There's a link to a petition on that BBC blog. It can't do any harm to post it here. The FIA need to realise the strong public opinion against this farce.

What do you think all the teams think of this rule, you think anyone will say anything soon in opposing it?

I signed it yesterday, and I never sign petitions.

It's going to make little difference, but if the negative feedback continues, then hopefully they'll reconsider for 2010 hopefully... or whenever Bernie and Max finally kick the bucket.

If there was a need for this, I could understand, but even applying this system to previous seasons (something I never do) it would only have changed 1 champion in the previous 2 decades (2008), so I really can't see the point.

I mean, come on. How many times has Hamilton settled for 2nd? Kimi? Would Massa? Kubica? People generally didn't attempt to overtake, not because they were a bit scared, but because they hadn't got a hope in hell of overtaking. That wasn't the case in 2008 (more through circumstance than anything else) and it won't be the case in 2009 with the new regulations.

It's just meddling for the sake of it. On paper it might be a good rule, but in practice it's going to make sod all difference to the action in front of us.

Signed that petition, 11,000 signatures so far. Probably won't change anything, A full-on boycott is needed this time.

There are 2 petitions floating about. Both going strong. Anyway, I also never sign petitions, but figured this time I kinda had to.

have a look at f1-live, there are quite a few articles quoting drivers and team owners now.

the drivers don't really like it, but Briatore doesn't mind it.
