however, that system would have changed nothing either, again except for making Massa and Hamilton level on points, giving Felipe the championship

Lewis and Felipe might call that a fairly substantial change of outcome...

of course, but i don't think the FIA/FOTA should expect too much change from this new system.

In terms of the difference between the top three, you're right, but it will increase the emphasis on finishing since drivers will lose out more if they don't finish and their main rival wins.

I was thinking about different ways that they could have done the new points system. If they had made it 12-8-6-5, then going up to the podium from 4th would only be as rewarding as moving up to 7th from 8th. With the points system that they have chosen, each postion gained between 4th-8th nets you one point, whereas every position gained on the podium gives you a good reward, with the biggest being for the win.

It's a good step forward, if you ask me.

The dropping of points was archaic. It was a relic of decades before when many drivers didn't race at every event, for instance choosing the Indy 500 over the Monaco GP, or driving at Le Mans or other events outside of F1.

By the time it was scrapped it was far more outdated than even Bernie is now.

If the medals system is implemented what will happen to the trophy ceremony, it wont be the same with medals.
