But I also find very difficult for a driver to manage the situatuion himself, waiting those 8-10 seconds (remember that Kimi was considerable close infront of Alonso final lap) and to cross the line with 1 single second for the final lap...just to difficult. I have no doubt that Alonso was adviced. By whom? I don't know.

Two things have come out today.

1) Hamilton and McLaren have put out a statement saying that Hamilton did not use the language attributed to him over the radio.

2) Autosport have done an analysis of fuel burn and advantages of being in front at certain tracks. too long winded to explain, but basically it made no difference at the Hungaroring whether Alonso or Hamilton were out first.

I would also like all the Lewis bashers to back up statements with facts. Alonso bashers too, although as he seems to speak to Spanish radio every few days, its easier to hear....

initially i thought the bust up between Ron and Lewis happened face to face some time after the qually session, but someone said it was over the radio so that's why ithoguht it was over the radio as i hadn't read otherwise.

the way you've written it Sam, doesn't imply he didn't use that language towards Ron, just that it wasn't over the radio.

"Whilst the team would normally not comment on such speculation, Lewis has asked us to correct one important matter of untrue critical commentary. It has been reported that Lewis used the "F word" to Ron Dennis over the team radio immediately after the qualification session had been completed.

"The team have investigated this claim and reviewed the radio transmissions and we can categorically confirm that Lewis did not use the "F word" at any time during any conversation with the team.

"The team and Lewis are extremely disappointed that the use of the "F word" appears to have been invented and repeated to the media."

ok cool, thanks for that clarification. without that last sentence though, it would just mean he didn't say it over the radio.

Yeah, I was just getting into the spirit of selective quotation :P

The guys over at McLaren PR department are a bit slow on the uptake not having rectified the situation as soon as they read the Sunday Times last weekend or heard the paddock rumor (especially considering how Dennis doesn't like misleading reports about his team).

To be honest I don't know who to believe any more. I'm a McLaren fan but this is BS.

The McLaren press release sounds to me as if they are in full retro-active
"let's cover our arse" mode ...;)

From Lewis's recent press statement:

"However, it is disappointing inflammatory and untrue material is given to the media and published which may damage reputations.

"This inflammatory material is then commentated on by many others as if it is factual.

"Whilst I wouldn't normally communicate through press statements, I felt it important to set this matter straight."

Ron? Is that you? ;)

Got to agree that that is a simple cover up. A week to respond to claims that were made last weekend which Ron refused to deny origionally? Have they been sitting playing with there dicks for a week or something?

What a farce McLaren has become. Cover up or not a week to respond to comments after the stuff that happened and the lies surrounding it is just stupid.

If one must take McLaren statements as facts, then start taking Alonsos statement as true also, which means Lewis was 100% at fault, Alonso was 100% in the clear and the penalty was a farce in the first place...but we cant take that as fact because Lewis still looks like the bad boy anyway. Funny how that works.

Now that's a stretch.

Edit: a recording of the radio conversation can make it possible to establish with 100% certainty whether or not Hamilton used the words ascribed to him while with Alonso you can only rely on his interpretation of events

But you probably knew that anyway.

has anyone heard what was said on the radio? or was it just stories to start off with?

It all reminds me a bit of alonso in the usa when he said he weeved to cool the car down but mclaren said he did it out of frustration

How so?

McLaren: Alonso was talking about tyres.
Lewis Fans: Thats lies!!!!
Press: Lewis Said the F word!
Lewis Fans: No way did he say that
McLaren: Lewis did not say the F word
Lewis Fans: McLaren said he didnt say it! therefore it couldnt have happened!

Doesnt anyone else see the stupid logic here? If your going to take McLarens comments as facts then stop defending the Alonso tyre excuse, because thats a McLaren comment too. You simply cant cover your ass by using McLarens comments as facts when you want them to be facts and blowing them off as just silly excuses when it doesnt agree with your opinion.

i agree theres a bit of arse covering going on, but i really don't think its quite the watergate style coverup that some seem to be suggesting.

lets not forget that the press have been trying to stoke up this 'alonso and hamilton at war' stuff since monaco.

now its finally errupted in the way they've been waiting for, i doubt they're going to let little things like double checking their facts get in the way of a good sound bite.

"McLaren: Alonso was talking about tyres.
Lewis Fans: Thats lies!!!!"

I don't know who you have in mind with that statement because my comment about the interpretation of events meant that i am not entirely convinced that Alonso had no way of alerting the team about the tire choice during the 20 second countdown.

I didnt say you ;-) I'm just pointing out that people are declaring Lewis innocent using the McLaren statement as proof are ignoring the McLaren statement concerning why Alonso was stuck in the pit stall.
