I clearly wasnt thinin properly when i posted:P. I think the first lap of Senna on Donington '93 was pretty awesome.. (the best)
But for really cool overtaking manoeuvre i go for Hakkinen on Schumacher in Spa 2000.

Christ theres alot of bad moves posted here. :P How about Mansell on Piquet, Silverstone 1987? How about, as an entire race, Clarks come back drive at Monza, 1967? Coulthard, around the outside of Schumacher, Argentina, 1995, after being boxed in behind a Minardi? Villenuve, around the outside of Schumacher, Estoril, 1996? JPM, in his second ever F1 race, Brazil 2001, putting manners on Schumacher?

as mentioned by 97kirk the fight for P2 between rene arnoux and gilles villeneuve at france 1979 is worth for the "hall of fame". actually the best racing action i've seen so far(EDIT: better put in "i can remember" instead of "i've seen" ;) ). well judge for yourself:

The Hill / Schumacher move in Hungary 1997 doesn't rate highly for me. I class 'a great move' as one where the car in front isn't a mobile chicane.

The Rene-Gilles battle was awsome. It's a shame we don't see such battles anymore.

JPM's move on MS at Brazil 2001 was outstanding!!

I remember James Allen going on and onnnnn about how JPM would be good at restarts because of Cart etc (EVERY RACE HE SAID IT! LOL)

Just a thought....

Todays overtaking manoeuvre's.... how should they be considered against manoeuvre's in the 80's early 90's or whatever? I say this because people say it was easier to overtake 'back then'.... because they didnt have these little shitty winglets etc producing soo much dirty air?!

Would this account for anything?

I personally dont think there would be too much of a difference... I mean the basic principles of overtaking have sticked throughout, nothing has changed (in terms of the way its done)...

If this dirty air would make a difference to overtakings from 10/20 years ago to today then you have to say JPM etc do a very very good job of it.

Just to emphasis if the aero effect is big enough to effect the overtaking.... Tell me if DijonP could happen again with the cars the way they are?!

Gethin on Peterson, Monza 1971 of course !

How's that for the right move at the right time, from out of contention to the fastest victory ever :)

Rubens's moves on every one @ Silvertone 03(?), but in particular his move on Ralf & Raikonnen.

Also Montoya on MS at Indi 01.

Well you should be able to answer this.:) But I think with quality of brakes nowadays it means you get less chance.

here's the Alonso on MS at Suzuka '05:

i don't rate it as highly as Kimi vs Fisi, because Alonso is already ahead of MS before they start to turn into 130R, Alonso had the racing line, and MS pulled out as soon as he saw FA go past him. Alonso drove the corner as if MS wasn't even there.

well she was the biggest sex symbol the world had ever seen, and still is for some

video of Kimi in the army, no offence but its like Pingu but with humans:

sorry for going off-topic.

back on-topic, here's Kimi vs Button at Australia '06:

the pass was nothing amazing, but the way he kept it on the track after locking up was good, and the racing was good and close for the next few corners, i think there may have been contact between tyres at turn 3.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

I think there was a contact, too, I'm not sure.
But I'm really sure that Button hits Montoya in one of the safety car phase.
Bad boy! ;)

Yeah, Mika on Shumi at Spa is the most memorable as it was for the race. Anyone remember JPM diving inside Rubens at turn 1, Monaco a few years ago? No-one can pass there.
Going OT a bit, I am ancient enough to remember seeing on TV in the early sixties an open-class sports car race at Goodwood. Dizzy Adicut was driving his road car, a Lotus Elite with a non-standard engine in it, against some Lister Jags. He messed up the start of this 10-lapper and spent almost the rest of the race on the leader's tail. Every lap, at the home straight into the chicane, he'd dive out but bottle it at the last moment. Last lap he held back a fraction and didn't try to get by. Instead he gunned it out of the chicane and nipped in front before the finish line.
Interestingly, soon after that race, the M4 motorway was newly opened and he was clocked on it at aboput 210mph one evening as he drove from his work in Bristol to London for a night out.
Not a lot of people know that.

nice story Brian, so slow-in and fast-out is the better approach rather than steaming in with brakes locked.

Kimi vs Fisi at Suzuka was also for the race, and on the last lap too.
