That's a good theory!

It almost works for Alonso as well - first win at Hungary in 03 and then the championship in 06, but not his first.

By that theory Boutsen should have won his only title in 1993. ;)

Edit: Actually scratch that - Hungary wasn't Boutsen's first win.

For a while now I've thought of Kovy as being like another Boutsen - that's probably why :P

Actually it's not a bad theory - nothing to prove it, but by coincidence it does look like a pattern.

I think this year i'll bet some money on Kovalainen as winner ... after all in '09 not so many people thought Buttun would win before Brawn Gp made first tests ...

hmm if there's a pattern, it must be limited, so maybe it only applies to Brit drivers? on Brit teams?

Coincedental pattern = unveiling the future? I dare you lot to put 50 euros on Kovalainen then :P

Maybe it does only apply to British drivers then. Puzzle solved!

Anther thing to that, although it wasn't Mansell's first win, he won in Hungary in '89 and won the title 3 seasons later in '92. Maybe it does only apply to British drivers...

And no, I wouldn't bet on Kovalainen...but if he did win, it would be brilliant :)

Coulthard never won in Hungary... he should have won it in 1998 (but was 2nd behind Hakkinen, who won that year's title) so that his 2001 title bid looked slightly better, using our theory.

---

However Hamilton is an exception. Wins in Canada, USA, Hungary and Japan 2007 and wins the 2008 title in Brazil, which was 24 races after Hungary (29 after Canada). The date of the 2007 Hungarian GP was 5th August. Brazil 2008's date was 2nd November.

He therefore the Hungarian GP 3 days after the date of his title winning day (a year and three months before)

oh well, don't forget that with this theory:

first win in Hungary =======> wins champoionship three years later

but

first win in Hungary <===/=== wins champoionship three years later

I'm sorry to interrupt the conversation, just found out that Paul Di Resta signed with Force India and Nico Hulkenberg will be the 3rd driver
For those of you who understand spanish, Here is the source.

ESPN F1 said that it would be confirmed sometime this week. Also, Toro Rosso will apparently be taken over by Arabian consortium.

Either way, Hulkenberg is IMO better than Sutil. But Sutil a) has sponsorship and b) has more experience. That seems to count.

As for Toro Rosso, if they are taken over then that effectively would leave Buemi and Alguersuari out of the lineup, because I don't believe any new owners would want to keep them (a - Theyre Red Bull property, b - neither of them are that good). I'd imagine that if this happens, Heidfeld would be in the frame. I'm just speculatin'.

Alguersuari could turn out decent i think though. He is still at an age where most drivers are driving formula renault's / GP2. In someways i think he was thrust into the hotseat way to early.

Buemi has looked good in glimpses but i think they will always be overshadowed by Vettel's win at Monza. No other driver in the near future will ever dominate a grand prix from such a lowly ranked team.

I just translated that link and it says the same as ESPNF1 - It should be confirmed in the next few days.

More interesting is that Willi Weber claims that he wanted Hulkenberg to go to McLaren as 3rd driver, but they didn't want him as it might threaten Button and disrupt team harmony.

It seems they've already accepted that they aren't going to get any better than Button, a driver who will do a respectable job, but probably won't take too many crucial points away from Lewis.

Car number magic this year:

1 - Vettel - 1 calendar year since winning title

2 - Webber - "not bad for a number 2 driver" (Britain 2010)

3 - Hamilton - 3 calendar years since winning title

4 - Button - 4 non-podium races between his last two podium visits (Singapore, Japan, Korea and Brazil)

5 - Alonso - 5 calendar years since his 2nd title

6 - Massa - His 6th year at Ferrari

7 - Schumacher - 7 times world champion

8 - Rosberg - Number of points per classified finish (to nearest whole number) last year - 142 in 17 races (scored in 15 races)

9 - Kubica - Number of podiums he had before 2010 (now has 12, including a win in Canada 2008)

10 - Petrov - Number of years since he first won the Lada Cup Russia, according to wikipedia

11 - Barrichello - Number of calendar years since he first won an F1 race (I remember watching Germany 2000)

12 - Maldonado - Number of times he'd been on a GP2 podium when he won the first of six feature races in a row

16 - Kobayashi - date in November 2007 which he was confirmed as Toyota's reserve driver for 2008 and 2009

17 - Perez - Age he was in British Formula 3

20 - Trulli - same as Perez

21 - Kovalainen - same as Trulli

24 - Glock - Age he started in GP2

25 - D'Ambrosio - His current age (just)

Hamilton's certainly had a unique run of numbers in his career so far: 2, 22, 1, 2, 3

He would have used 3 in 2008 if McLaren weren't disqualified from WCC. So it could have been 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 - maybe 1 again in 2012?

McLaren released their 2011 Team Collection.

Everything is black or red. The silver color just disappeared. I wonder how the livery will change...
