I heard Kimi would become a shareholder in Sauber at some point, and I really like that he´s going where all had begun. but maybe, it also might be some sort of backup plan? It sounds like a loooooooooong shot but what if Leclerc fails to deliver? Or if he is indeed faster than Vettel and then Seb leaves after 2019 (or a similar scenario)?by Frantic - F1

McLaren spent the last 3 years bashing Honda but they´ve been awful at a lot of things. For example, they´re amongst the slowest pitstops for a couple of years now... Maybe the car is good but if they don´t step up their game as an organization they won´t be at the front. Its too early to say of course, but i´d put my money on Renault challenging for podiums this yearby Frantic - F1

Yeah, I always thought that having the number on the helmet is quite pointless. As morbid said until the 90s the helmet represented in a way the identity of the driver. Some were iconic. And then it ended when they became overcomplicated. Honestly I can't recall any recent design, or at least I can't in the way I recall say Coulthard Hakkinen JV Barrichello etc. At the end the mostby Frantic - F1

First of all I can´t recall a race from this year where the tyres had a big implicance in the final results. I dont think this is a bad thing. I think Pirelli did a good job for this year. While they designed the compounds with overdimensioned car downforce, it was the right thing to do, giving the uncertainity they had as they tested with 2015 modified cars. Well, Stroll almost didn´t have issues in a weekend where almost everyone had problems, in a very tough track. He qualified ahead his teammate for the first time in the season... That´s something to be impressed, especially coming from a debutant 18-year old nicknamed "Crash Stroll" after his first 3 races... Of course he wouldn´t have finished 3rd without so much retirements, but he maby Frantic - F1

I dont see a return to F1 as something utopic. Apparently the reason he dropped the LMP1 drive was this test and further schedule for Renault. I dont think the team would bother so much only to do him a favour. There is no smoke without a fire I think he will get at least friday outings. Well he we are again. up-to-date Track image and race data Yesterday Mercedes has shown some pictures of hoy their numbers look. Added names and flag in shark fin, and Bottas´ 77 is blue now. here are some pictures of the added numbers and stuff. (Love how Ferrari went for a ´70s style). Also Williams is using Arial Bold now. Red Bull has stolen their decals from Dalby Frantic - F1

But thats only one side of the story. The action was there in monza because they were packed together, not just because all the overtaking. Also, That was the old Monza without the chicanes, making the track a big factor. Also all of the cars (except the BRM i think) had the same engine. And its not like every race in 1971 was like that. Yep, Clark did it in 1965. He used to have bad luck in Monaco (he never won there) so he skipped it and went to indy and won! If i remember correctly in that year he won all the races he entered until he became champion I used to tip Jacques Villeneuve to go to the triple crown (he only has Le Mans left) but that´s unlikely now. gav Wrote: -----------------------------------------------by Frantic - F1

Well, good qualy overall. Grosjean impressed me the most. Ferrari seems to be up there with Mercedes. First front row since singapore 2015 and only 3 tenths behind Hamilton, who is probably one of the best qualifiers ever. Also Ricciardo starting 10th will add some emotion. Im starting to worry about whether they could drive flat-out all race or not. There were some comments from Hulkenberg, he was comparing the Pirellis to the Michelin LMP1 ones and he said that this year they will have to save tyres at some point. Also there were some reports saying that some engineers were concerned about fuel consumption and that 105kg of fuel wasn´t enough... That reminds mby Frantic - F1

Yeah, I also think like that regarding Alonso. I think that is the reason of keeping Button under contract, so they have a plan b if Alonso leaves. I don´t think any of the top drivers would want a seat at McLaren today. It´s like the tree doesn´t let them see the forest. I´m sure that if they drop the Honda engine and put a Mercedes inside the car it still wouldn´t be better than 4th.by Frantic - F1

@Morbid of course Alonso didn´t said that seriously! What I was trying to emphasize in the other post is that he´s already being ironic in pre-season. He´s already fed up with the situation. It´s obvious they are not taking all the corners flat, they have a horrible engine but still it isn´t from a lawnmover! Furthermore, there are reports on how they lift in corners 1-2-3 because the car also hby Frantic - F1

The fact that he´s saying he can go flat out in almost every curve because the engine has no power says it all. I can´t see the partnership lasting beyond 2017. This Honda team has nothing to do with the 80s and 90s Honda There were some rumours of a association with BMW in F1, due to their partnership with Mclaren´s street car division. they denied it but I wonder if that can become true in tby Frantic - F1

Cars from early 2000´s had 4G in cornering and 5G in braking. The biggest issue will be to deal with it for 2 hours. Anyway the physical preparation that drivers have today is a lot better than before. I don´t think we´ll see drivers about to faint after a raceby Frantic - F1

Ferrari: Sometimes less is more: the livery fits the car very well. Getting rid of all the white and extra black parts was a good decision. Of course i´d paint the wings black but that´s too much to ask. The car looks good. McLaren: It´s obvious they designed that livery with Paint. I can´t find another way to explain that awfulness. As if it isn´t enough having almost no sponsors, they put thby Frantic - F1

I think that Williams render is made just for give an idea of how the car and its proportions will look like. Something about how the rear wing fits into the car is strange. anyway, the "official" presentation will be on Feb 25th. I heard that about TR too. Apparently they´re going to use the light blue from their sugar free drink. If all the rumours are true we´re going to have theby Frantic - F1

They´re just trying to emphasize that Dennis´era is over. I guess is part of their marketing plan: re-introducing the McLaren brand with a "re-birth" of the team, hence the change in the name, the colors, etc. I´d prefer the old Mxx rather than MCLxx but honestly they can call the car Geoff and I wouldnt mind.by Frantic - F1

Im im not mistaken it is in the rules. The rear wing endplates are something that caught my attention. They roughly (and I mean,roughly) reminded me of the mid and late 70s, mostly the Lotus from 1979. So I looked a littlo into it a while ago. If i remember correctly the bottom of the endplate must start in line with the rear wheel center line, while the top of the endplate must begin like 20cby Frantic - F1

@gav: regarding what you said about McLaren's finances, now that I take a look at it again I think you´re right, they´re not in a so desesperate situation. It still is somewhat strange to me that they´ve lost so many sponsors to rival teams in just 2-3 years. So, it´s being reported that Massa agreed to stay at Williams for one more season *clicky* Also, Pat Symonds out of Grove at the end of the year. I guess this implies a Valtteri-Paddy Lowe swap, or something like that. There are some interesting sponsor moves, too. Dont know if it was already posted that ExxonMobil is leaving McLaren and going to Red Bull. How many sponsors lost McLareby Frantic - F1

They´re supposedly trying to get Alonso out of McLaren but I dont think thats going to happen. Meanwhile, negotiations between Wehrlein and Sauber are now in hold as Merc figures out its lineup... Also there is a rumour about Bottas having a clause in his contract to leave Williams and go to Mercedes, although I dont really think Williams will let him leave so easily.
