I'm truly beginning GPL now, I am not trying to go overboard and will be patient. I got the game running here, Gav's setup pack and the Ferrari is the vehicle of choice. No aids, will stick to the racing line and each lap I'll try to push more.

I've installed GPL but when I run it teh screen goes black then back to the desktop with nothing to do with GPL running.

Do I need to run GPL in some compatability mode?

On XP no, though Vista apparently requires User Account Control turned off, according to Glyn.

You'll need the All in 1 patch v2, and you'll also want (need?) the Direct3D patch, which will let it run in, strangely, Direct3D accelerated mode, though only DirectX 7. There's a readme here, which will probably be copied to the GPL folder when it's installed anyway.

There's a widescreen patch too, but let's see if you can get GPL running before we try customising too much.

If you want anything at all, just say so.

and some users may have to disable DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for papy games to work.

1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right Click on Command Prompt
5. Left click on Run as Administrator
6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission
7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully
9. Reboot and DEP should be off.

There's a reason we don't run gpl in opengl mode - why is it, I can't remember? :S I am asking cos apparently in opengl you don't get the thing where it screws up all the text so you can't read it.

It's a bit unstable on nV cards and it's very soft and blurry around the edges too.
